MR-Angiographie peripherer Gefäße mit automatischer Verschiebetisch-Technik bei 1.0 T im Vergleich zur i. a. DSA

1999

PURPOSE Contrast-enhanced (CE) 3D-MR angiography of peripheral arteries was performed in 8 patients with peripheral arterial occlusive disease by applying a new tracking technique on a 1.0 T system (Magnetom Harmony, Siemens). The studies were compared with intra-arterial digital angiography as gold standard. MATERIALS AND METHODS Imaging of the distal aorta, pelvis, upper and lower limb arteries was accomplished with a Flash-3D-sequence (TR/TE = 6.2/3.2 ms) within 26 s acquisition time of each region after a single bolus of 30 ml contrast agent. Individual circulation time was determined by a test bolus before each examination. RESULTS 112 vessel segments were evaluated. MR angiography ach…

Comparison of two different devices to assess intraocular lenses

2016

[EN] In this paper, we have compared the performance of two commercial systems, Kaleo-I and IOLA Plus, in the characterization of monofocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) according to the International Standard requirements (ISO 11979-2). The dioptric power (DP) and the Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) at 100.1p/mm and 3.0 mm aperture have been measured with both instruments in twenty commercial monofocal HEMA IOLs and their agreement was assessed by Bland Altman analysis. Compared with the designed power, IOLA Plus gave lower values in 85% of measures: Kaleo I errors are dependent on the power of the lens: measurements were higher than the designed power in the low-medium power range and lowe…

Modified nonsink equation for permeability estimation in cell monolayers: comparison with standard methods.

2014

Cell culture permeability experiments are valuable tools in drug development and candidate selection, but the monolayer preparation protocols and the calculations procedures can affect the permeability estimation. Hence, standardization and method suitability demonstration are necessary steps for using permeability data for regulatory and in vivo prediction purposes. Much attention is usually paid to experimental procedure validation and less to the mathematical analysis of the results although the standard equations used imply several assumptions that many times do not hold. The aim of this study was to use a simulation strategy to explore the performance of a new proposed modified nonsink…

Identifying the Unknown Content of an Ancient Egyptian Sealed Alabaster Vase from Kha and Merit’s Tomb Using Multiple Techniques and Multicomponent S…

2020

This article highlights the multianalytical study of exuded liquid from an ancient Egyptian sealed alabaster vase by Master's students in an applied chemistry for cultural heritage course. Master students are introduced to the field of Archaeometry that see the collaboration of experts in different areas of research such as conservators, curators of museums, physicists, chemists, etc. The sample is a residue exuded on the linen strip sealing an ancient Egyptian alabaster vase (inventory number S.8448) from the collection of the Museo Egizio in Turin (Italy). The students start to plan the noninvasive investigation by X-ray fluorescence (XRF), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and ener…

Enthalpies of mixing of some nitriles aqueous solutions with dodecylsurfactants micellar solutions

1988

The enthalpies of mixing of some n-nitriles (from acetonitrile to valeronitrile) aqueous solutions with dodecyltzimethylammonium bromide, sodium dodecylsulfate and dodecyltzimethylammonium oxide micellar solutions were determined. The measurements were performed by systematically changing the surfactant concentration at a given solute concentration. The experimental enthalpies were rationalized in terms of the standard enthalpy of transfer of solute from the aqueous to the micellar phase and of the distribution constant between the two phase. Information on the effect of the nature of the surfactant on the standard thermodynamic quantities of transfer(ΔG t o , ΔH t o , TΔS t o ) is reported…

Protonation thermodynamics of 2,2'-bipyridyl in aqueous solution. Salt effects and weak complex formation

1993

Abstract Protonation constants of 2,2'-bipyridyl (bipy) have been determined potentiometrically, using (H + )-glass electrode, in different aqueous media (alkali and alkaline earth chlorides, tetramethylammonium chloride and tetramethylammonium iodide) at different temperatures and ionic strengths. The differences in log K H values are explained using a complex formation model. Formation thermodynamic parameters are given.

A thermodynamic study to evidence the alpha,omega-dichloroalkane/ block copolymer mixed aggregates formation: effect of the copolymer architecture.

2006

Abstract The thermodynamics of α , ω -dichloroalkanes in aqueous solutions of (ethylene oxide)11(propylene oxide)16(ethylene oxide)11 (L35) and (propylene oxide)8(ethylene oxide)23(propylene oxide)8 (10R5) was determined at 298 and 305 K. Modeling the experimental data allowed to calculate the standard free energy ( Δ G D o / w ) and the volume ( Δ V D / w ) for the additive–copolymer mixed aggregates formation per additive molecule. Δ G D o / w for Cl2CH2 and Cl2(CH2)2 evidenced that the process is controlled by the forces exercising between the chlorine atoms and the OH groups of the copolymer micelles protruded into the aqueous phase. Cl2(CH2)3 experiences both the hydrophilic and hydrop…

Conflicting needs of the thermal indoor environment of museums: In search of a practical compromise

2008

Thermal indoor microclimate conditions in museum buildings refer to two important requirements: the preservation of works of art and the comfort of visitors to these buildings and/or those working inside them. Unfortunately, different works of art have different internal parameters which render the management and control of the indoor thermal microclimate difficult. In this work the values proposed by various standards for the thermal environment of museum buildings have been revised. Moreover, the indoor microclimatic conditions relating to people's comfort have been described, with the aim of singling out possible common ranges for these parameters. With this aim, a useful simultaneousnes…

Control of indoor environments in heritage buildings: experimental measurements in an old Italian museum and proposal of a methodology

2005

Abstract This paper describes some results from an experiment carried out regarding a procedure to be adopted for temperature and R.H. monitoring of indoor spaces designed for exhibiting events, such as museums and similar institutions. The monitored data employed in this study has been collected by the Department di Ricerche Energetiche ed Ambientali of the Universita degli Studi di Palermo in co-operation with the Regional Gallery ''Palazzo Abatellis'' of Palermo. The study analyses a simple method for characterising the environmental quality of museums so as to ensure the optimal conservation of works of art. This methodology is based on the procedure (where thermal and hygrometry parame…

An innovative approach to manage uncertainties and stock diversity in the EPBD cost-optimal methodology

2018

The EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) 2010/31/EU is a step in the right direction to promote near zero energy buildings (NZEB) in a step-wise manner, starting with minimum energy performance and cost optimal thresholds for “reference buildings” (RBs) for each category. Nevertheless, a standard method for defining RBs does not exist, which led to a great divergence between MS in the level of detail used to define RBs for the EPBD cost-optimal analysis. Such lack of harmonisation between MS is further evident given the resulting large discrepancies in energy performance indicators even between countries having similar climate. Furthermore, discrepancies of 30% or higher betw…
