PV modules with variable ideality factors
2012
The classical single-exponential I–V curve model for crystalline-Si PV devices assumes a constant ideality factor. The model is widely applied in e.g. modeling the power output of PV systems at different irradiances and temperatures, and also in calculating the Equivalent Cell Temperature (ECT) from the open-circuit voltage. The present paper presents results from several crystalline-Si (c-Si) module types suggesting that the ideality factor may change with irradiance. The possible implications of such variability are discussed, in particular the need for a new ECT calculation procedure as well as for revision of some PV performance models.
Market Determinants of Voluntary Disclosure of Macroeconomic Effects on Corporate Performance
2012
The macroeconomic environment is an important determinant of firm performance. Nevertheless, many firms are simplistic in the approach they use to identify, analyze and create strategies for managing the vital relationship between intrinsic competitiveness and macroeconomic fluctuations. Few firms disclose this information to outside stakeholders, which means they are prevented from understanding the intrinsic performance. We analyze the effects of the implementation/development of IFRS/IAS 1 on voluntary macroeconomic information disclosure with a focus on information content and market determinants. We base our analysis on a sample of the 100 largest public European firms in the period 20…
Accessibility of the Italian institutional web pages: a survey on the compliance of the Italian public administration web pages to the Stanca Act and…
2014
Accessibility of the Italian public administration web pages is ruled by the Stanca Act and in particular the Decree of the Minister issued on July 8, 2005. In this paper, an objective test is performed on the official web pages of the Italian province and region chief towns to check their compliance to the 22 technical requirements defined by the Stanca Act. A sample of 976 web pages belonging to the websites of the Italian chief towns have been downloaded in the period October---December 2012. Such a data collection has been submitted to Achecker, the worldwide recognized syntax and accessibility validation service. Several accessibility and syntax errors have been found following the aut…
Usability analysis and visualization of Web 2.0 applications
2008
Nowadays companies and home users use Web sites offering services ranging from Web sites up to complex Web applications. Often the ergonomics of these applications remains unconsidered and they turn out to be hard to use. In order to examine the usability from within the Web applications, information about the usage of the application is collected. The techniques that have been used in the past for Web 1.0 are no longer adequate. Ajax programs (Web 2.0) are more flexible and require other techniques. This paper shows techniques for collection, analysis, processing and visualization of data for Web 2.0 applications.
Non-Technological Aspects on Web Searching Success
2008
This paper studies the influence of social, cultural and emotional background of typical Web users into the web searching process. Several variables, describing such aspects, are represented and statistically analyzed with well known clustering and classifying algorithms such, as COBWEB, J48, Bayes classification, and Correspondence analysis. Results indicate that the efficiency of the complete process of Information Retrieval will not be fully understood without considering subjectivity and personality facts.
Web access for people with visual disability
2012
This paper addresses the evaluation of a prototype of the Inclusite® solution, designed to enable web accessibility for visual disabled people. The interface provides the help from the Web and avoids users' dependence on software and devices normally used by them. An expert in typhlotechnology makes usability tests of Inclusite® interface, consisting of keyboard navigation combined with voice synthesis (synthesis of voice reads to the user the selections made from the keyboard). The evaluation of the initiative is very positive as it will contribute to reduction of costs by the users, not needing to purchase specific software, as well as reducing their dependence on the use of their own equ…
Accessibility of Public Web Services: A Distant Dream?
2013
Part 1: Long and Short Papers; International audience; Today, many public services are available online through Web sites. The accessibility of the sites, also to people with disabilities, is important because the accessibility concerns equality of citizens, a cornerstone of democracy. In the current study we carried out a meta-analysis of 17 studies concerning the accessibility of the Web sites of public administration. Furthermore, we assessed the accessibility of Web pages of 12 ministries of the Finnish government. The assessments were based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). The results showed that in terms of the WCAG guidelines, the average accessibility of public We…
Semantic web technologies for facilities management
2007
Facility management is the practice of coordinating the physical workplace with the people and work of the organization. It integrates the principles of business administration, architecture and the behavioral and engineering sciences. To deal with these requirements, we have developed a framework based on Semantic Web technologies: RDF, OWL, SWRL and named graph. This framework, called C-DMF, allows facilities manager to organize all knowledge generating during building lifecycle in end-user contextual graphs.
Context DataModel Framework: semantic facilities management
2008
Facility management is the practice of coordinating the physical workplace with the people and work of the organisation. It integrates the principles of business administration, architecture and the behavioural and engineering sciences. Software dedicated to facility management are usually limited to spreadsheet software. With the development of the Industry Foundation Class (IFC; a new object-oriented standard to model buildings) and web-based networks, a new generation of methods and tools dedicated to facility management are required. To deal with these requirements, we have developed a framework based on Semantic Web technologies: RDF, Ontology Web Language (OWL), Semantic Web Rule Lang…
Ontology languages for the semantic web: A never completely updated review
2006
This paper gives a never completely account of approaches that have been used for the research community for representing knowledge. After underlining the importance of a layered approach and the use of standards, it starts with early efforts used for artificial intelligence researchers. Then recent approaches, aimed mainly at the semantic web, are described. Coding examples from the literature are presented in both sections. Finally, the semantic web ontology creation process, as we envision it, is introduced.
