Ischemic stroke increases heart vulnerability to ischemia-reperfusion and alters myocardial cardioprotective pathways

2018

Background and Purpose— For years, the relationship between cardiac and neurological ischemic events has been limited to overlapping pathophysiological mechanisms and common risk factors. However, acute stroke may induce dramatic changes in cardiovascular function. The aim of this study was to evaluate how prior cerebrovascular lesions affect myocardial function and signaling in vivo and ex vivo and how they influence cardiac vulnerability to ischemia-reperfusion injury. Methods— Cerebral embolization was performed in adult Wistar male rats through the injection of microspheres into the left or right internal carotid artery. Stroke lesions were evaluated by microsphere counting, tissue sta…

Inhibition of class I histone deacetylase with an apicidin derivative prevents cardiac hypertrophy and failure

2008

AIMS: Recent studies have demonstrated the importance of chromatin remodelling via histone acetylation/deacetylation for the control of cardiac gene expression. Specific histone deacetylases (HDACs) can, in fact, play a positive or negative role in determining cardiac myocyte (CM) size. Here, we report on the effect on hypertrophy development of three inhibitors (HDACi) of class I HDACs. METHODS AND RESULTS: The compounds were first analysed in vitro by scoring hypertrophy, expression of foetal genes, and apoptosis of neonatal rat CMs stimulated with phenylephrine, an alpha1-adrenergic agonist. This initial screening indicated that a truncated derivative of apicidin with class I HDAC specif…

Prediction of CRT Activation Sequence by Personalization of Biventricular Models from Electroanatomical Maps

2020

[EN] Optimization of lead placement and interventricular delay settings in patients under cardiac resynchronization therapy is a complex task that might benefit from prior information based on models. Biophysical models can be used to predict the sequence of electrical heart activation in a patient given a set of parameters which should be personalized to the patient. In this paper, we use electroanatomical maps to personalize the endocardial activation of the right ventricle, and the different tissue conductivities in a pig model with left bundle branch block, to reproduce personalized biventricular activations. Following, we tested the personalized heart model by virtually simulating card…

Influence of age on osteoarthritis progression after anterior cruciate ligament transection in rats.

2013

Abstract The anterior cruciate ligament transection (ACLT) model of osteoarthritis (OA) in young rats is widely used to study the pathogenesis of OA and possible treatment approaches. As aging is a key factor in the progression of this condition, it is hypothesized that animals may vary in their responses to ACLT according to their age. The histopathological features of young (2 month-old) and middle-aged (12 month-old) rats in the presence or absence of ACLT were compared. The results indicated that moderate degradative changes can be detected in the knee joints of sham-operated middle-aged rats compared with young animals. After ACLT, cartilage degradation was significantly higher in midd…

Regulation of the inflammatory response by tin protoporphyrin IX in the rat anterior cruciate ligament transection model of osteoarthritis

2010

The purpose of this study was to investigate several inflammatory mediators and cartilage degradation molecules as possible biomarkers of joint lesion in the anterior cruciate ligament transection (ACLT) model of osteoarthritis in rats. We also assessed whether the treatment with the anti-inflammatory agent tin protoporphyrin IX (SnPP) reduces the progression of disease. Our results indicate that serum levels of interleukin (IL)-6 and PGE2 are significantly increased in ACLT rats 10 weeks after surgery, whereas the increases in IL-1β and tumor necrosis-α were not significant. In addition, our data suggest that IL-17 is the main pro-inflammatory cytokine in the ACLT joint. We have shown that…

Application of the star-product method to the angular momentum quantization

1992

We define a *-product on ℝ3 and solve the polarization equation f*C=0 where C is the Casimir of the coadjoint representation of SO(3). We compute the action of SO(3) on the space of solutions. We then examine the case of non-zero eigenvalues of C, in order to find finite-dimensional representations of SO(3). Finally, we compute \(\sqrt C *\sqrt C \) as an asymptotic series of C. This gives an explanation of the use of the star square root of C in a paper by Bayen et al. instead of its natural square root.

Savstarpējās atzīšanas principa piemērošana un tā pārkāpuma attaisnošana preču brīvas aprites jomā Eiropas Savienībā

2019

Immigrant entrepreneur firm start-up behavior and reasoning : a reflective study of causation, effectuation and bricolage

2013

Entrepreneurship research studies how and why firms come into being, survive and grow (Davidsson, 2004; Gartner, 1985; Schumpeter, 1934). Early literature has proposed a linear model of entrepreneurship which is intentional (Bird, 1988), opportunity discovery (Kirzner, 1997; Shane and Venkataraman, 2000) and goal & strategy oriented (Wiklund & Shepherd, 2005). Being a mainstream in the earlier research, it is labelled as causation model by Sarasvathy (2001). Several scholars such as Baker & Nelson (2005) and Sarasvathy (2001a, b; 2008) questioned the validity of the model and proposed two additional models to the classic model: Effectuation (Sarasvathy, 1998) and Entrepreneurial Bricolage (…

Star Image Identification and Characterization on Astrographic Plates

1994

The automatic identification and characterization of star images has great value for the preliminary analysis and measurement of astrographic plates. Our group at Valencia Observatory is using a small 2-D stage and a CCD camera under computer control to perform systematic measurements of bright asteroid plates. We are also applying this method to the processing of astrographic plates with crowded stellar fields and non-stellar objects in collaboration with the Pulkovo Observatory.

Z dziejów kultury muzycznej w kościele parafialnym pw. św. Wawrzyńca męczennika w Starym Waliszowie

2016

W 1930 roku miejscowy zespół wokalno-instrumentalny liczył 18 chórzystów i 15 instrumentalistów. Począwszy od XVIII wieku nabożeństwom w Stary…
