Método: 760 estudiantes universitarios, incluyendo 379 españoles (83.1% mujeres) y 381 ecua-torianos (76.6% mujeres), completaron las escalas Trait Meta Mood Scale, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, Satisfaction With Life Sca…
Inteligencia emocional rasgo y bienestar subjetivo en adolescentes: papel moderador de los sentimientos
2018
Background: Trait emotional intelligence (EI) is a key concept related to different well-being indicators. These relationships, mediated by affective variables, have mainly been found in adults. However, little is known about these associations with moderating effects of feelings in adolescents and certain indicators of well-being. This study examined the moderating role of feelings in the relation between trait emotional intelligence and several indicators of well-being (life satisfaction, self-perceived stress and somatic complaints) in adolescents. Methods: The sample was composed of 1,273 pupils from 10 high schools, aged between 12 and 16 (M=13.63 years; SD=1.22) 666 (52.7%) were girls…
Slotted Blades Savonius Wind Turbine Analysis by CFD
2013
In this paper a new bucket configuration for a Savonius wind generator is proposed. Numerical analyses are performed to estimate the performances of the proposed configuration by means of the commercial code COMSOL Multiphysics® with respect to Savonius wind turbine with overlap only. Parametric analyses are performed, for a fixed overlap ratio, by varying the slot position; the results show that for slot positioned near the blade root, the Savonius rotor improves performances at low tip speed ratio, evidencing a better starting torque. This circumstance is confirmed by static analyses performed on the slotted blades in order to investigate the starting characteristic of the proposed Savoni…
comparing two start-up strategies for MBRs: experimental study and mathematical modelling
2012
Abstract The performance of a membrane bioreactor (MBR), and mechanisms of fouling formation, may differ due to the start-up. Therefore, the start-up can constitute an aspect that critically influences MBR performance during its lifespan. Indeed, the start-up can influence the mechanisms of membrane fouling, which is of paramount importance in an MBR. In order to gain insights on the effects of the start-up, both experimental and mathematical modelling studies were carried out on an MBR pilot plant. The MBR pilot plant constituted of a hollow fibre membrane module, in a submerged configuration, was fed by real wastewater. Two experimental periods were carried out, lasting 65 days each, char…
PEM Fuel Cell System Model Predictive Control and real-time operation on a power emulator
2010
Fuel Cell Systems (FCS) seem to be among the most reliable devices to produce clean energy, although they still suffer for many problems, mostly related to the fragility of the Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM). Particularly, this paper focuses on the oxygen starvation, that leads both a decrease of the FCS performance and a shortening in the FCS lifetime. The purpose is to use the Model Predictive Control (MPC) and its capacity of accounting for linear constraints for managing the air system without risking to damage the fuel cell. Two control inputs and no static feed-forward actions have been used. Results show that the MPC is able to avoid the oxygen starvation, even with a sudden incr…

Public Policy and Italian Innovative Startups Financing: Evidences from Case Studies
2015
Since more than two years innovative start up have been receiving in Italy great attention by the lawmaker; the aim is to sustain innovation ecosystem with spill-over effect on the whole economy. In this context financial sources availability plays a critical role; indeed new firms in general, and innovative more than others, complain the lack of capital to fuel their businesses. Heterogeneity of innovative start up makes very complex to address this issue and to target the goal. This research is a very first attempt to understand to what extent startup entrepreneurs have availed of the occasions offered by a recent Italian Law aiming to sustain innovative startups and what underpins their …
Am I an Entrepreneur? Entrepreneurial Self-Identity as an Antecedent of Entrepreneurial Intention
2020
Although many studies have shown that entrepreneurial intention can be explained according to a theory of planned behavior, some scholars have provided interesting insights into the role of job self-identity perception—in particularly the ones related to entrepreneurship—as significant precursor of entrepreneurial intention. A questionnaire has been administered to graduates and students of an Italian university (N = 153). A hierarchical regression analysis controlling for demographic variables has been performed in order to test the research hypotheses. The findings of this study have been discussed, with particular attention paid to the unexpected, weak, or non-significant effects of perc…
The Startup Scratch Book – Opening the Black Box of Startup Education
2021
Teaching entrepreneurship and startups is a challenging task. Approaches using real or simulated entrepreneurship as a teaching method are also common in startup education. However, as educators and researchers, we typically only observe the outcomes of the startup journey between weekly lectures and other meetings, whereas the actions taken by the student teams can seldom be observed. This makes the process a black box. All valuable learnings, realizations, and big ideas happen in the students’ minds, and little evidence exists to say what happened during the course. As a result, we are entirely missing out on the most critical elements of the learning process. To remedy this issue, we pro…
