Acoustic Topological Circuitry in Square and Rectangular Phononic Crystals

2021

International audience; We systematically engineer a series of square and rectangular phononic crystals to create experimental realizations of complex topological phononic circuits. The exotic topological transport observed is wholly reliant upon the underlying structure which must belong to either a square or rectangular lattice system and not to any hexagonal-based structure. The phononic system chosen consists of a periodic array of square steel bars which partitions acoustic waves in water over a broadband range of frequencies (∼0.5MHz). An ultrasonic transducer launches an acoustic pulse which propagates along a domain wall, before encountering a nodal point, from which the acoustic si…

Modelling suburbanization (success and limits of microeconomics of cities)

2001

History of population and employment suburbanization, mainly in the United States, suggests three characteristics of the phenomenon. 1/ Suburbanization results in urban sprawl in such a way that population and employment increase more rapidly in the periphery than in thecenter. 2/ Suburbanization leads to the emergence of new activity centers in the periphery and gives rise to multicentric urban structures. 3/ Suburbanization différenciâtes the economic contents and functions of these activity centers and brings a new organization of urban centres. In this framework, suburbanization takes different forms depending of periods and regions. The emergence of centers and the transformation from m…

Financing in SMEs: Case of the Baltic States

2014

Abstract Access to finance represents one of the most significant challenges for SMEs’ entrepreneurs. To ensure SMEs creation, existence and growth it is vitally important to understand the financing needs of SMEs and entrepreneurs, the main obstacles to finance availability and accessibility. The study indicates the difficulties in SMEs financing for the three Baltic States and provides the governments and other stakeholders with a tool to understand SMEs’ financing needs. The study results highlight importance of alternative resources of external financing for small developing countries such as the Baltic ones and the need to support the design and evaluation of policy measures and to mon…

An experimental and theoretical study of a heptacoordinated tungsten(VI) complex of a noninnocent phenylenediamine bis(phenolate) ligand

2018

[W(N2O2)(HN2O2)] (H4N2O2 = N,N′-bis(3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxyphenyl)-1,2-phenylenediamine) with a noninnocent ligand was formed by reaction of the alkoxide precursor [W(eg)3] (eg = the 1,2-ethanediolate dianion) with two equivalents of ligand. The phenol groups on one of the ligands are completely deprotonated and the ligand coordinates in a tetradentate fashion, whereas the other ligand is tridentate with one phenol having an intact OH group. The molecular structure, magnetic measurements, EPR spectroscopy, and density functional theory calculations indicate that the complex is a stable radical with the odd electron situated on the tridentate amidophenoxide ligand. The formal oxidation s…

Experimental study of isomeric intruder ½+ states 197,203At

2017

A newly observed isomeric intruder ½ + state [ T ½ = 3.5 ( 6 ) ms ] is identified in 203 At using a gas-filled recoil separator and fusion-evaporation reactions. The isomer is depopulated through a cascade of E 3 and mixed M 1 / E 2 transitions to the 9 / 2 − ground state, and it is suggested to originate from the π ( s ½ ) − 1 configuration. In addition, the structures above the ½ + state in 203 At and 197 At are studied using in-beam γ -ray spectroscopy, recoil-decay tagging, and recoil-isomer decay tagging methods. The ½ + state is fed from 3 / 2 + and 5 / 2 + states, and the origin of these states are discussed. peerReviewed

Theoretical characterization of the photochemical reaction CO2+O(3P)→CO+O2 related to experiments in solid krypton

2020

Formation and decomposition of the complex of carbon dioxide and atomic oxygen are characterized by quantum chemistry methods aiming to rationalize experimental studies in solid krypton. The observed FTIR spectra reflected the temporal evolution of the system after irradiation showing the bands of reactants, intermediates and products. Advanced quantum chemistry calculations show that the T-shape complex CO2…O(3P) can be formed in the matrix. Its excitation by the 193 nm light results in the charge-transfer state CO2+…O-, which evolves to the reaction intermediate CO3. The latter species decomposes to CO + O2 following pathways on the excited state energy surfaces. peerReviewed

Coach-created motivational climate and athletes’ adaptation to psychological stress : Temporal motivation-emotion interplay

2019

This two-wave study investigated the temporal interplay between motivation and the intensity and reported impact of athletes’ emotions in training settings. In total, 217 athletes completed self-report measures of motivational climate, motivation regulations, emotional states (i.e., pleasant states, anger, and anxiety) experienced before practice at two time points during a 3-month period. Latent change score modeling revealed significantly negative paths from task-involving climate at time 1 to the latent change in the intensity of dysfunctional anxiety and anger, and significantly positive paths from ego-involving climate at time 1 to the latent change in dysfunctional anger (i.e., intens…
