Mössbauer Spectroscopy on Photosynthetic Bacteria: Investigation of Reaction Centers of Rhodopseudomonas Viridis
1990
Crystals of 57Fe enriched reaction centers have been investigated by Mossbauer spectroscopy. The cytochrome irons are in the low spin ferric state. The non-heme iron of the electron accepting side is partly ferrous high spin and partly ferrous low spin (or ferric high spin). Under the conditions of the experiment sodium ascorbate reduces only one cytochrome iron into the ferrous low spin state. Membrane bound proteins become flexible at higher temperatures than proteins with a hydrophilic surface. They are also less flexible, at least up to temperatures of about 250 K.
Coordination-Induced Spin-State Switching with Nickel Chlorin and Nickel Isobacteriochlorin
2015
We present the first coordination-induced spin-state switching with nickel chlorin and nickel isobacteriochlorin. The spin-state switching was monitored by UV-vis spectroscopy and NMR titration experiments. The association constants (K1 and K2) and thermodynamic parameters (ΔH and ΔS) of the coordination of pyridine were determined. The first X-ray analyses of a paramagnetic nickel chlorin and a nickel isobacteriochlorin provide further information about the structure of the octahedral complexes. Nickel chlorin and even more pronounced nickel isobacteriochlorin exhibit stronger coordination of axial ligands compared to the corresponding nickel porphyrin and thus provide the basis for more e…

Ķīnas un Baltijas valstu ekonomiskā sadarbība, pašreizējās tendences un nākotnes scenāriji
2022
China and Baltic States have developed economic cooperation under the format of “16+1” (later “17+1” when Greece joined in 2019), where both sides have taken more “open” attitudes and policies to establish closer cooperation in trade and investment. This paper is to research the current trends of the economic cooperation between China and the Baltic States as well as the future scenarios thereof combining economic and political analysis. The trade theory proves economic benefits of liberal trade and investment, therefore, the economic cooperation of China and Baltic States provides growth opportunities for both sides. However, Lithuania has withdrawn its membership of this format in 2021, m…
Intrinsic spin-orbit interaction in diffusive normal wire Josephson weak links: Supercurrent and density of states
2015
We study the effect of the intrinsic (Rashba or Dresselhaus) spin-orbit interaction in superconductor--nanowire--superconductor (SNS) weak links in the presence of a spin-splitting field that can result either from an intrinsic exchange field or the Zeeman effect of an applied field. We solve the full non-linear Usadel equations numerically and analyze the resulting supercurrent through the weak link and the behavior of the density of states in the center of the wire. We point out how the presence of the spin-orbit interaction gives rise to a long-range spin triplet supercurrent, which remains finite even in the limit of very large exchange fields. In particular, we show how rotating the fi…
Experimental study of 1/2(+) isomers in At-199,At-201
2014
Using fusion-evaporation reactions, a gas-filled recoil separator, and recoil-electron and recoil-electron-alpha tagging techniques, a new isomeric 1/2(+) state [T-1/2 = 45(3) ms] in At-201 is identified, and an earlier reported corresponding state [T-1/2 = 273(9) ms] in At-199 is confirmed. The 1/2(+) state is suggested to originate from an intruder pi(s(1/2))(-1) configuration. In addition, nuclear structure of states below and above this 1/2(+) state are studied in both nuclei. The isomer decays through a cascade of an E3 transition followed by a mixed M1/E2 transition to the 9/2(-) ground state, and it is interpreted to be fed from nearly spherical 3/2(+) and 5/2(+) states originating f…
Shape coexistence in the neutron-deficient even-even Hg182-188 isotopes studied via Coulomb excitation
2014
Coulomb-excitation experiments to study electromagnetic properties of radioactive even-even Hg isotopes were performed with 2.85 MeV/nucleon mercury beams from REX-ISOLDE. Magnitudes and relative signs of the reduced E2 matrix elements that couple the ground state and low-lying excited states in Hg182-188 were extracted. Information on the deformation of the ground and the first excited 0+ states was deduced using the quadrupole sum rules approach. Results show that the ground state is slightly deformed and of oblate nature, while a larger deformation for the excited 0+ state was noted in Hg182,184. The results are compared to beyond mean field and interacting-boson based models and interp…
Decay spectroscopy of the very neutron-deficient lead and thallium isotopes 178,179Pb and ¹⁷⁹Tl
2018
This thesis reports on the production of the very neutron-deficient isotopes 178,179Pb and 179Tl, using heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reactions. The gas-filled separator RITU and the GREAT spectrometer at its focal plane position were used for the decay spectroscopy study. The α decay of 178Pb and its α-decay chain were studied through α-α correlations. The α-particle energy and half-life were measured for 178Pb as, Eα= 7610(30) keV and t1/2 = 0.21−+0.21 0.08 ms, respectively. The half-life is consistent with recent theoretical calculations using the Coulomb and Proximity Potential Model (CPPM). The hindrance factor for 178Pb was deduced and corresponds to an unhindered Δl = 0 transition. Th…
Spectroscopy of 34,35Si by beta decay : sd-fp shell gap and single-particle states
2001
The 34,35Al b decays have been studied at the CERN online mass separator ISOLDE by b-g, b-g-g, and b-n-g measurements in order to corroborate the low-level description of 34Si and to obtain the first information on the level structure of the N521 isotope 35Si. Earlier observed g lines in 34Al decay were confirmed and new g transitions following both b decay and b-delayed neutron emission have been established. The first level scheme of 35Si includes three excited states at 910, 974, and 2168 keV. Indication is found for Jp 5(3/2)2 and (3/2)1 for the first two excited states, respectively. Beta-decay half-life of T1/2538.6(4) ms and b-delayed neutron branching value Pn541(13)% were measured …
To act or not to act : Debating the climate change agenda in the United States Congress
2020
Most climate change actions take place in the international context in terms of multilateral negotiations and accords or in bilateral agreements between heads of the state. Parliaments or legislatures such as the United States Congress are in a crucial position when it comes to converting agreements or aims to action in domestic politics. The United States has played a volatile role in international negotiations on climate change. From categorically rejecting the Kyoto protocol during the George W. Bush administration, President Barack Obama announced that the United States would join the Paris Climate Accord prior to President Donald J. Trump's announcement of the withdrawal of the United …
