Continuous variable quantum teleportation with non-Gaussian resources

2007

We investigate continuous variable quantum teleportation using non-Gaussian states of the radiation field as entangled resources. We compare the performance of different classes of degaussified resources, including two-mode photon-added and two-mode photon-subtracted squeezed states. We then introduce a class of two-mode squeezed Bell-like states with one-parameter dependence for optimization. These states interpolate between and include as subcases different classes of degaussified resources. We show that optimized squeezed Bell-like resources yield a remarkable improvement in the fidelity of teleportation both for coherent and nonclassical input states. The investigation reveals that the …

The spin texture of a Dirac-type surface state in W(110) lends itself to study spin-dependent effects in electron spectroscopies that show up very clearly. Firstly, we report on spin-resolved photoemission calculations and separate the spin polarization that is attributed to the initial state from that induced by the photoemission process itself. This disentanglement allows one to map spin textures of spin-polarized initial states using circular dichroism, for example from Dirac surface states in topological insulators. Secondly, we demonstrate the mapping of spin-polarized states by spin-dependent two-electron emission. Selecting highly polarized initial states, this spectroscopy can furth…

Internal conversion from excited electronic states of 229Th ions

2017

The process of internal conversion from excited electronic states is investigated theoretically for the case of the vacuum-ultraviolet nuclear transition of 229Th. Due to the very low transition energy, the 229Th nucleus offers the unique possibility to open the otherwise forbidden internal conversion nuclear decay channel for thorium ions via optical laser excitation of the electronic shell. We show that this feature can be exploited to investigate the isomeric state properties via observation of internal conversion from excited electronic configurations of Th+ and Th2+ ions. A possible experimental realization of the proposed scenario at the nuclear laser spectroscopy facility IGISOL in J…

Pseudobosons, Riesz bases, and coherent states

2010

In a recent paper, Trifonov suggested a possible explicit model of a PT-symmetric system based on a modification of the canonical commutation relation. Although being rather intriguing, in his treatment many mathematical aspects of the model have just been neglected, making most of the results of that paper purely formal. For this reason we are re-considering the same model and we repeat and extend the same construction paying particular attention to all the subtle mathematical points. From our analysis the crucial role of Riesz bases clearly emerges. We also consider coherent states associated to the model.

Vibrational excitations in systems with correlated disorder

2007

We investigate a $d$-dimensional model ($d$ = 2,3) for sound waves in a disordered environment, in which the local fluctuations of the elastic modulus are spatially correlated with a certain correlation length. The model is solved analytically by means of a field-theoretical effective-medium theory (self-consistent Born approximation) and numerically on a square lattice. As in the uncorrelated case the theory predicts an enhancement of the density of states over Debye's $\omega^{d-1}$ law (``boson peak'') as a result of disorder. This anomay becomes reinforced for increasing correlation length $\xi$. The theory predicts that $\xi$ times the width of the Brillouin line should be a universal …

Quons, coherent states and intertwining operators

2009

We propose a differential representation for the operators satisfying the q-mutation relation $BB^\dagger-q B^\dagger B=\1$ which generalizes a recent result by Eremin and Meldianov, and we discuss in detail this choice in the limit $q\to1$. Further, we build up non-linear and Gazeau-Klauder coherent states associated to the free quonic hamiltonian $h_1=B^\dagger B$. Finally we construct almost isospectrals quonic hamiltonians adopting the results on intertwining operators recently proposed by the author.

Extended SUSY quantum mechanics, intertwining operators and coherent states

2009

Abstract We propose an extension of supersymmetric quantum mechanics which produces a family of isospectral Hamiltonians. Our procedure slightly extends the idea of intertwining operators. Several examples of the construction are given. Further, we show how to build up vector coherent states of the Gazeau–Klauder type associated to our Hamiltonians.

Incompatibility in Multi-Parameter Quantum Metrology with Fermionic Gaussian States

2019

In this article we derive a closed form expression for the incompatibility condition in multi-parameter quantum metrology when the reference states are Fermionic Gaussian states. Together with the quantum Fisher information, the knowledge of the compatibility condition provides a way of designing optimal measurement strategies for multi-parameter quantum estimation. Applications range from quantum metrology with thermal states to non-equilibrium steady states with Fermionic and spin systems.

Control of Localization and Suppression of Tunneling by Adiabatic Passage

2004

We show that a field of frequency $\ensuremath{\omega}$ combined with its second harmonic $2\ensuremath{\omega}$ driving a double-well potential allows us to localize the wave packet by adiabatic passage, starting from the delocalized ground state. The relative phase of the fields allows us to choose the well of localization. We can suppress (and restore) the tunneling subsequently by switching on (and off) abruptly the fields at well-defined times. The mechanism relies on the fact that the dynamics is driven to an eigenstate of the Floquet Hamiltonian which is a localized state.

Self-consistency conditions for localized magnetic moments in a free electron gas

1969

The self-consistent conditions for a localized magnetic moment in a metal are studied in the case where the density of states of the host metal is free electron like. A method is outlined which in principle allows to determine self-consistently in the Hartree-Fock approximation the relevant parameters of the magnetic ground state of the system. A numerical example is approximately worked out to show how the theory gives reasonable answers in spite of the crudeness of some of the approximations used.
