Le groupe de travail « SHS et santé » de l’alliance Athéna est chargé d’une mission anticipatrice portant sur les thématiques de Sciences Humaines et Sociales concernant la santé afin de stimuler et faire évoluer la recherche de SHS sur ce domaine, et d’en assurer l’ouverture internationale. Economic Returns to Education in France: OLS and Instrumental Variable Estimations

It addresses the issue of endogeneity bias and proposes two new instruments for use in the instrumental variable two-stage least squares technique. Our results show that the proposed instruments are relevant and adequate, based on evidence from the available literature. After using the proposed instruments, we find that the OLS coefficients for schooling are biased downwards. Finally, we choose between the two proposed instruments.

In the early twentieth century a handful of French geographers and historians famously suggested that mainland France comprised two agrarian systems: enclosed field systems with scattered settlements in the central and western France, and openfield systems with grouped settlements in eastern France. This division between grouped and scattered settlements can still be found on the outskirts of urban areas. The objective of this paper is to determine whether the shape of urban areas varies with the type of built patterns in their periphery.
