Investigating the Response of Loop Plasma to Nanoflare Heating Using RADYN Simulations

2018

We present the results of 1D hydrodynamic simulations of coronal loops that are subject to nanoflares, caused by either in situ thermal heating or nonthermal electron (NTE) beams. The synthesized intensity and Doppler shifts can be directly compared with Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph (IRIS) and Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) observations of rapid variability in the transition region (TR) of coronal loops, associated with transient coronal heating. We find that NTEs with high enough low-energy cutoff (EC) deposit energy in the lower TR and chromosphere, causing blueshifts (up to approximately 20 kilometers per second) in the IRIS Si IV lines, which thermal conduction cannot repro…

Uncertainties in polarimetric 3D reconstructions of coronal mass ejections

2015

P.P. acknowledges STFC for financial support. Date of Acceptance: 21/01/2015 Aims. The aim of this work is to quantify the uncertainties in the three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of the location of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) obtained with the so-called polarization ratio technique. The method takes advantage of the different distributions along the line of sight of total (tB) and polarized (pB) brightnesses emitted by Thomson scattering to estimate the average location of the emitting plasma. This is particularly important to correctly identify of CME propagation angles and unprojected velocities, thus allowing better capabilities for space weather forecastings. Methods. To this end, …

Hypusinated eIF5A is required for the translation of collagen

2021

AbstractThe evolutionary conserved elongation factor eIF5A is required for the translation of mRNAs that encode protein sequences with consecutive prolines or combined with glycine and charged amino acids. Mammalian collagens are enriched in putative eIF5A-dependent Pro-Gly-containing tripeptides. Here, we show that eIF5A is needed for heterologous expression of collagen in yeast, and using a dual luciferase reporter system we confirmed that eIF5A depletion interrupts translation at Pro-Gly-collagenic motifs. Using mouse fibroblasts, we showed that depletion of active eIF5A reduced collagen 1α (Col1a1) content, which became concentrated around the nuclei, in contrast to a stronger and all o…

Review of sustainable solar hydrogen production using photon fuel on artificial leaf

2017

Abstract Energy conversion from the renewable energy sources with suitable energy storage plays a vital role in the sustainable development. Sustainable hydrogen production from the solar energy is well suited for energy storage applications because of inherent high mass energy density of hydrogen. This manuscript reviewing the techniques required for the sustainable solar hydrogen production using photon fuel on artificial leaf, i.e. solar cell. The designing and assembling of artificial solar leaf, which is the replica of natural leaf and capable of harnessing full solar spectrum, are deliberated. This technology for sustainable solar hydrogen production will overlay a viable way for more…

CATCOM: A Database on Performances of Spanish Classical Theater

2013

The research group DICAT (http://www.uv.es/dicat/index_en.html) has been working for almost twenty years on the creation of research instruments that will enhance scholars' knowledge of Early Modern Spanish theater through the use of digital tools that create new ways to combine and apply data.1 The database Diccionario biografico de actores del teatro clasico espanol (DICAT) (Ferrer Valls) was the result of work done during nearly fifteen years. The DICAT group created a database with almost five thousand entries, which document the activity of actors, actresses, heads of companies, and musicians who worked in Spanish professional theatrical companies during the sixteenth and seventeenth c…

Pitch controller modeling for wind turbine power regulation using feed forward control strategies

2015

In this work, pitch controlled power regulation of a horizontal axis wind turbine coupled with a fixed speed asynchronous generator is studied using SimulationX®. Wind turbines need to be operated as per specified power output vs wind speed characteristics of it. If the wind speed is between the cut-in wind speed and the rated wind speed, then the wind turbine needs to be operated constant Cp. If wind speed is between the rated speed and the cut-off wind speed, then the wind turbine needs to be operated for constant rated power. To extract rated power above rated wind speed a proper controller strategy is required. This work provides a simulation model for power regulation of a horizontal a…
