Perceptual and semantic familiarity in recognition memory: an event-related potential study

Putative event-related potential correlates of perceptual and semantic bases of familiarity in recognition memory were examined with a categorized pictures recognition test. Our participants were presented, at study, with pictures of categorized objects and, at test, with either the very same pictures presented at study, different pictures of studied objects, pictures of new objects belonging to studied categories, or pictures of completely new-uncategorized objects. Autoregulatory role of interleukin-10 in hepatitis C patients treated with IFN-alpha.

Interferon-alpha2 (IFN-alpha2) is used as standard treatment of patients with chronic hepatitis C (cHCV), but little is known about the immunomodulatory effects of this cytokine in vivo. We have studied immunologic parameters in freshly isolated peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) of 26 patients with cHCV 12 h before and 12 h after the first s.c. injection of 5-6 MU IFN-alpha2. In PBMC obtained after IFN injection, a substantial increase in IL-10 production after antigen-specific and nonspecific stimulation was observed, whereas IFN-gamma production and proliferation were significantly diminished compared with PBMC obtained before IFN injection. Withdrawal reflex organisation to electrical stimulation of the dorsal foot in humans.

The present study investigated excitatory reflex receptive fields for various muscle reflex responses and reflex mediated ankle joint movements using randomised electrical stimulation of the dorsal and plantar surface of the foot in 12 healthy subjects. Eleven electrodes (0.5-cm2 cathodes) were mounted on the dorsal side and three on the plantar side of the foot. Characterization of blink reflex interneurons by activation of diffuse noxious inhibitory controls in man.

The blink reflex consists of an early, pontine R1-component and a late, medullary R2-component. R1 and R2 can be evoked by innocuous stimuli, but only the R2 also by painful heat, suggesting that the R2 is mediated by wide dynamic range neurons (WDR) of the spinal trigeminal nucleus. This kinematic study aimed to determine whether color is a stimulus property involved in the control of reaching-grasping movements.
