The new murine hepatic 3A cell line responds to stress stimuli by activating an efficient Unfolded Protein Response (UPR)
2012
In the present study we have investigated the properties of a novel cell line (3A cells) obtained from the liver of 14.5. days post coitum (dpc) wild-type mouse embryo. 3A cells morphology was characterized by fluorescent localization of F-actin and β-catenin. The expression of specific genes and proteins essential to liver function in these cells was comparable or even more efficient then in the differentiated hepatocytic cell line MMH-D6. 3A cells also showed the capability to excrete molecules in extracellular spaces resembling functional bile canaliculi, glycogen storage activity and the ability to control retinol-binding protein 4 secretion in response to retinol deprivation. Their re…
Physiotherapists' lived experiences of decision making in therapeutic encounters with persons suffering from whiplash-associated disorder: A hermeneu…
2020
Conceptual discussions related to clinical reasoning and decision making have evolved over the years from biomedical to incorporating more holistic approach to reasoning. Empirical studies exploring clinical reasoning and decision making in physiotherapy practice have mostly focused on aspects of managing persons with low back pain, such as exercise prescription, education and communicating diagnosis. There is a paucity of studies exploring decision making in whiplash‐associated disorder (WAD); thus, the aim of this study was to explore the physiotherapists' lived experiences of decision making related to treating persons with WAD. A qualitative research design based on hermeneutic phenomen…
Hierarchy of Eustress and Distress: Rasch Calibration of the Valencia Eustress-Distress Appraisal Scale
2016
The purpose of the study was to uncover the hierarchy of eustress and distress appraisal and calibrate the Valencia Eustress Distress Appraisal Scale (VEDAS, Rodríguez, Kozusznik, & Peiró, 2013) using the Rasch Analysis (RA). A cross-sectional study was conducted on sample of 603 Spanish social service professionals. The VEDAS included four subscales addressing work demands that can be appraised as sources of eustress and distress. RA was carried out for eustress and distress appraisal scales. A graduation of stressful situations appraised as distress and/or as eustress was revealed. One of the greatest sources of distress and one of the lesser sources of eustress was “switching off at …
Termination of the magnetorotational instability via parasitic instabilities in core-collapse supernovae
2016
The magnetorotational instability (MRI) can be a powerful mechanism amplifying the magnetic field in core-collapse supernovae. Whether initially weak magnetic fields can be amplified by this instability to dynamically relevant strengths is still a matter of debate. One of the main uncertainties concerns the process that terminates the growth of the instability. Parasitic instabilities of both Kelvin-Helmholtz and tearing-mode type have been suggested to play a crucial role in this process, disrupting MRI channel flows and quenching magnetic field amplification. We perform two-dimensional and three-dimensional sheering-disc simulations of a differentially rotating protoneutron star layer in …
A note on Einstein gravity on AdS(3) and boundary conformal field theory
1998
We find a simple relation between the first subleading terms in the asymptotic expansion of the metric field in AdS$_3$, obeying the Brown-Henneaux boundary conditions, and the stress tensor of the underlying Liouville theory on the boundary. We can also provide an more explicit relation between the bulk metric and the boundary conformal field theory when it is described in terms of a free field with a background charge.
Cosmological Horizon Modes and Linear Response in de Sitter Spacetime
2009
Linearized fluctuations of quantized matter fields and the spacetime geometry around de Sitter space are considered in the case that the matter fields are conformally invariant. Taking the unperturbed state of the matter to be the de Sitter invariant Bunch-Davies state, the linear variation of the stress tensor about its self-consistent mean value serves as a source for fluctuations in the geometry through the semiclassical Einstein equations. This linear response framework is used to investigate both the importance of quantum backreaction and the validity of the semiclassical approximation in cosmology. The full variation of the stress tensor delta bi contains two kinds of terms: (1) those…
Renormalized stress-energy tensor for spin-1/2 fields in expanding universes
2014
We provide an explicit expression for the renormalized expectation value of the stress-energy tensor of a spin-$1/2$ field in a spatially flat FLRW universe. Its computation is based on the extension of the adiabatic regularization method to fermion fields introduced recently in the literature. The tensor is given in terms of UV-finite integrals in momentum space, which involve the mode functions that define the quantum state. As illustrative examples of the method efficiency, we see how to compute the renormalized energy density and pressure in two interesting cosmological scenarios: a de Sitter spacetime and a radiation-dominated universe. In the second case, we explicitly show that the l…
Space and Time Averaged Quantum Stress Tensor Fluctuations
2021
We extend previous work on the numerical diagonalization of quantum stress tensor operators in the Minkowski vacuum state, which considered operators averaged in a finite time interval, to operators averaged in a finite spacetime region. Since real experiments occur over finite volumes and durations, physically meaningful fluctuations may be obtained from stress tensor operators averaged by compactly supported sampling functions in space and time. The direct diagonalization, via a Bogoliubov transformation, gives the eigenvalues and the probabilities of measuring those eigenvalues in the vacuum state, from which the underlying probability distribution can be constructed. For the normal-orde…
