However, large sampling effort is rarely possible, because it demands large financial resources and time, restricting the number of sites sampled, the duration of the study and the sampling effort at each site. Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass as an Effective Bariatric Revisional Surgery after Restrictive Procedures
2020
Introduction: Revisional surgery must be considered when insufficient weight loss is attained or weight is subsequently regained. This study aimed to investigate the value of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) as a revisional procedure after restrictive surgery. Materials and Methods: An observational, retrospective study including patients initially operated on for morbid obesity with restrictive techniques (vertical-banded gastroplasty [VBG], adjustable gastric band [AGB], and sleeve gastrectomy) and reoperated with RYGB in our centre between December 1994 and January 2019. Demographic and anthropometric data, associ…

La constitución del parlamento en caso de presuntas irregularidades electorales: Comentario a la stedh de 10 de julio de 2020 : Caso mugemangango c. …
2021
The ECHR analyzes, through this judgment, a claim based on the violation of the rights to free elections and to an effective remedy, the origin of which is found in a series of alleged electoral irregularities. The national body that had to resolve this issue was not impartial, and the complaint procedure lacked adequate and sufficient guarantees
Newtonian and Non-Newtonian Elements in Hume
2016
For the last forty years, Hume's Newtonianism has been a debated topic in Hume scholarship. The crux of the matter can be formulated by the following question: Is Hume a Newtonian philosopher? Debates concerning this question have produced two lines of interpretation. I shall call them ‘traditional’ and ‘critical’ interpretations. The traditional interpretation asserts that there are many Newtonian elements in Hume, whereas the critical interpretation seriously questions this.In this article, I consider the main points made by both lines of interpretations and offer further arguments that contribute to this debate. I shall first argue, in favor of the traditional interpretation, that Hume i…
Clinical utility of plasma-based digital next-generation sequencing in patients with advance-stage lung adenocarcinomas with insufficient tumor sampl…
2019
[Background] Approximately 30% of tumor biopsies from patients with advanced-stage lung adenocarcinomas yield insufficient tissue for successful molecular subtyping. We have analyzed the clinical utility of next-generation sequencing (NGS) of cell-free circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in patients with inadequate tumor samples for tissue genotyping. [Patients and methods] We conducted the study in a multi-institutional prospective cohort of clinically unselected patients with advanced-stage lung adenocarcinomas with insufficient tissue for EGFR, ALK or ROS1 genotyping across 12 Spanish institutions (n = 93). ctDNA NGS was carried out by Guardant Health (Guardant360, Redwood City, CA), using a h…
Partial Sleep Restriction Activates Immune Response-Related Gene Expression Pathways: Experimental and Epidemiological Studies in Humans
2013
Epidemiological studies have shown that short or insufficient sleep is associated with increased risk for metabolic diseases and mortality. To elucidate mechanisms behind this connection, we aimed to identify genes and pathways affected by experimentally induced, partial sleep restriction and to verify their connection to insufficient sleep at population level. The experimental design simulated sleep restriction during a working week: sleep of healthy men (N = 9) was restricted to 4 h/night for five nights. The control subjects (N = 4) spent 8 h/night in bed. Leukocyte RNA expression was analyzed at baseline, after sleep restriction, and after recovery using whole genome microarrays complem…

Chemical heterogeneities in the mantle: The equilibrium thermodynamic approach
2016
Abstract This study attempts to answer a simple and yet fundamental question in relation to our understanding of the chemical evolution of deep Earth and planetary interiors. Given two initially separate assemblages (lithologies) in chemical equilibrium can we predict the chemical and mineralogical compositions of the two assemblages when they are put together to form a new equilibrated system? Perhaps a common perception is that given sufficient time, the two assemblages will homogenize chemically and mineralogically, however from a chemical thermodynamic point of view, this is not the case. Certain petrological differences in terms of bulk composition, mineralogy and mineral abundance rem…
Parliamentary Time as a Medium of Politics
2018
The chapter deals with parliamentary time that underlies all the other aspects as a temporal ‘subtext’ of parliamentary politics. The temporal aspect is built into the parliamentary procedures, debates, regimes and actors. It is not only a play in time but also a play with time. The parliamentary debate requires sufficient time but at the same time recognising that parliamentary time is always scarce, and a fair distribution of it between both items and members is necessary. Parliamentary politics shows therefore an extraordinary sensitivity for time. Parliamentary time is based on multiple rounds of debate as well as on a time order of parliamentary moves of different types. When used in p…
