Le sollecitazioni delle Corti e l’inerzia del legislatore in tema di suicidio assistito. Un confronto tra Italia e Inghilterra
2019
Starting from the analysis of the decision of the Italian Constitutional Court on the Cappato case, the essay is the occasion for a joint reflection between Italian constitutional law and comparative law on the subject of assisted suicide and euthanasia, which seems to determine the inertia of the legislators in the face of activism of the Courts, perpetually seeking a dialogue with the first. To suffer the most serious damage of these attitudes are the sick, who in this matter more than ever need certainty to the law.
Considerazioni sparse, in chiave comparatistica, sulle proposte di legge in materia di eutanasia e di suicidio medicalmente assistito
2019
The essay deals with proposed legislations, in Italy and in England, about euthanasia and assistance in dying. It aims to confront the different solutions in both legal systems, for the purpose of finding the best result for the respect of the dignity of people suffering for terminal illness.
La circoscritta (e puntellata) area di incostituzionalit dellart. 580 c.p. fra self-restraint della Corte costituzionale e perdurante iner…
2020
With the decision on the Cappato case the Constitutional Court did not create the right to medically assisted suicide, which, moreover, the constitutional order does not contemplate, but only identified a circumscribed area of unconstitutionality of art. 580 of the Italian Criminal Code, supporting it with regulatory and procedural props. In this way, the Court demonstrated its self-restraint respectful of Parliaments discretion and underlined the persistence of the need for legislative intervention in such a sensitive matter.
Preliminary evaluation of an analog procedure to assess acceptability of intimate partner violence against women: The Partner Violence Acceptability …
2015
Acceptability of partner violence against women is a risk factor linked to its perpetration, and to public, professionals’ and victims’ responses to this behavior. Research on the acceptability of violence in intimate partner relationships is, however, limited by reliance solely on self-reports that often provide distorted or socially desirable accounts that may misrepresent respondents’ true attitudes. This study presents data on the development and initial validation of a new analog task assessing respondents’ acceptability of physical violence toward women in intimate relationships: the Partner Violence Acceptability Movie task (PVAM). This new analog task is intended to provide a more i…

In this review, state-of-the-art evidence on the relationship between cannabis use, traffic crash risks, and driving safety were analyzed. Systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and other relevant papers published within the last decade were systematically searched and synthesized. Findings show that meta-analyses and culpability studies consistently indicate a slightly but significantly increased risk of crashes after acute cannabis use. These risks vary across included study type, crash severity, and method of substance application and measurement. Some studies show a significant correlation between high THC blood concentrations and car crash risk. Most studies do not support this relationshi…
Behavioral genetics of suicidality in Bipolar Disorder: the interaction between SERT and CLOCK polymorphisms and early-life stress
A job-exposure matrix for research and surveillance of occupational health and safety in Spanish workers: MatEmESp
2013
BACKGROUND: In this study we describe a general-population job-exposure matrix (MatEmESp) for Spanish workers covering the period 1996-2005. METHODS: The Finnish job-exposure matrix (FINJEM) provided the default value estimates for occupational exposure to chemical, physical and biological agents. These estimates were adapted to Spanish working conditions by local experts. Spanish surveys were used to obtain exposure estimates for ergonomic and psychosocial risk factors. Employment and socio-demographic conditions for Spanish workers were obtained from the Spanish National Statistics Institute. RESULTS: MatEmESp provides a large amount of national and occupation-specific data on the major o…
Gender, Care, and the Normalization of Violence: Similarities between Occupational Violence and Intimate Partner Violence in Finland
2007
According to the statistics, violence against women is quite common in Finland, particularly in partner relationships and in care work. The present article looks at the similarities in the ways in which victims of occupational violence in care work and victims of intimate partner violence understand their experiences of violence. The commonalities among interpersonal relations are highlighted in order to offer new insights to the analysis of gender in research on occupational violence. Drawing on empirical data and research literature on the experiences of violence of Finnish women, this article suggests that minimization, naturalization and legitimization of the encountered violence is typ…
Hospitalization for self-harm during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic in France: A nationwide retrospective observational cohort study
2021

Statistical methods comprised Poisson regression, Cox regression and Student's t-test, plus Spearman's correlation test relating to spatial analysis of hospitalizations. Outcomes There were 53,583 self-harm hospitalizations in France during January to August 2020. Compared to the same period in 2019, this represents an overall 8·5% decrease (Relative Risk [95% Confidence Interval] = 0·91 [0·90–…
