Agent assisted interactive algorithm for computationally demanding multiobjective optimization problems
2015
Abstract We generalize the applicability of interactive methods for solving computationally demanding, that is, time-consuming, multiobjective optimization problems. For this purpose we propose a new agent assisted interactive algorithm. It employs a computationally inexpensive surrogate problem and four different agents that intelligently update the surrogate based on the preferences specified by a decision maker. In this way, we decrease the waiting times imposed on the decision maker during the interactive solution process and at the same time decrease the amount of preference information expected from the decision maker. The agent assisted algorithm is not specific to any interactive me…
Nonverbal synchrony in couple therapy linked to clients’ well-being and the therapeutic alliance
2021
Nonverbal synchrony between individuals has a robust relation to the positive aspects of relationships. In psychotherapy, where talking is the cure, nonverbal synchrony has been related to a positive outcome of therapy and to a stronger therapeutic alliance between therapist and client in dyadic settings. Only a few studies have focused on nonverbal synchrony in multi-actor therapy conversations. Here, we studied the synchrony of head and body movements in couple therapy, with four participants present (spouses and two therapists). We analyzed more than 2000min of couple therapy videos from 11 couple therapy cases using Motion Energy Analysis and a Surrogate Synchrony (SUSY), a procedure us…
Surrogate assisted interactive multiobjective optimization in energy system design of buildings
2022
In this paper, we develop a novel evolutionary interactive method called interactive K-RVEA, which is suitable for computationally expensive problems. We use surrogate models to replace the original expensive objective functions to reduce the computation time. Typically, in interactive methods, a decision maker provides some preferences iteratively and the optimization algorithm narrows the search according to those preferences. However, working with surrogate model swill introduce some inaccuracy to the preferences, and therefore, it would be desirable that the decision maker can work with the solutions that are evaluated with the original objective functions. Therefore, we propose a novel…
Data-Driven Interactive Multiobjective Optimization Using a Cluster-Based Surrogate in a Discrete Decision Space
2019
In this paper, a clustering based surrogate is proposed to be used in offline data-driven multiobjective optimization to reduce the size of the optimization problem in the decision space. The surrogate is combined with an interactive multiobjective optimization approach and it is applied to forest management planning with promising results. peerReviewed
Data-Driven Evolutionary Optimization: An Overview and Case Studies
2019
Most evolutionary optimization algorithms assume that the evaluation of the objective and constraint functions is straightforward. In solving many real-world optimization problems, however, such objective functions may not exist, instead computationally expensive numerical simulations or costly physical experiments must be performed for fitness evaluations. In more extreme cases, only historical data are available for performing optimization and no new data can be generated during optimization. Solving evolutionary optimization problems driven by data collected in simulations, physical experiments, production processes, or daily life are termed data-driven evolutionary optimization. In this…
On approaches for solving computationally expensive multiobjective optimization problems
2016
In this thesis, we consider solving computationally expensive multiobjective optimization problems that take into account the preferences of a decision maker (DM). The aim is to support the DM in identifying the most preferred solution for problems that have several conflicting objectives and when the evaluation of the candidate solutions is time consuming. This is conducted by replacing computationally expensive functions with computationally inexpensive functions, known as surrogates. First, based on a literature survey, we introduce two frameworks, i.e., a sequential and an adaptive framework, based on which surrogate-based methods are classified and compared. We then identify relevant cha…
Grazoprevir/elbasvir for the immediate treatment of recently acquired HCV genotype 1 or 4 infection in MSM.
2020
Abstract Background In Europe, increases in HCV infection have been observed over the last two decades in MSM, making them a key population for recently acquired HCV. Alternative combinations of direct-acting antiviral agents against early HCV infection need to be assessed. Patients and methods In this pilot trial, MSM with recently acquired genotype 1 or 4 HCV infection were prospectively included and received 8 weeks of oral grazoprevir 100 mg and elbasvir 50 mg in a fixed-dose combination administered once daily. The primary endpoint was sustained virological response evaluated 12 weeks after the end of treatment (EOT) (SVR12). Secondary endpoints were the virological characterization of…
Adopción en casos especiales y unidad del status filiationis en el derecho italiano: ¿cómo repercute en el plano sucesorio?
2022
In the Italian legal system, there has recently been recognition by the Constitutional Court in adoptions in particular cases of the existence of civil relations between the adoptee and the relatives of the adopter, thus equalizing the margins of protection of minors, regardless of the situations of fact or law from which the new status of the child originated. This jurisprudential work is full of considerable systematic reflections and is intended to be applied not only to the hypothesis of adoption by same-sex couples, but also to all those cases in which a state of semi-permanent abandonment or cyclical abandonment occurs. Notwithstanding the negative value directed at the forms of surro…
On Using Decision Maker Preferences with ParEGO
2017
In this paper, an interactive version of the ParEGO algorithm is introduced for identifying most preferred solutions for computationally expensive multiobjective optimization problems. It enables a decision maker to guide the search with her preferences and change them in case new insight is gained about the feasibility of the preferences. At each interaction, the decision maker is shown a subset of non-dominated solutions and she is assumed to provide her preferences in the form of preferred ranges for each objective. Internally, the algorithm samples reference points within the hyperbox defined by the preferred ranges in the objective space and uses a DACE model to approximate an achievem…
