A rare polymeric azido-bridged copper(II) chain with a pentameric repeating unit: Synthesis, structure and magnetic properties

International audience; The novel polymeric chain copper(II) complex [Cu4(μ-Mesalpn)2(μ1,1,1-N3)2(μ1,1-N3)2Cu]n (1) was prepared by the reaction of Cu(NO3)2·3H2O with Mesalpn in the presence of an excess of NaN3. A single-crystal X-ray diffraction study showed an unusual 1D polymeric chain based on pentanuclear Cu5 units with both μ1,1,1-N3 and μ1,1-N3 bridges, and with three independent Cu(II) ions presenting three different coordination numbers (4, 5 and 6). The magnetic susceptibility data show the presence of dominant anti-ferromagnetic interactions.

The preparation, spectroscopic characterization, structural study and magnetic investigation of three new complexes of formula [Co(bpcam)2]ClO4·dmso·H2O (1), [Co(bpcam)2]2[Co(NCS)4]·dmso·H2O (2) and [Ni(bpcam)2]·H2O (3) [Hbpcam = bis(2-pyrimidylcarbonyl)amide] are reported. Each bpcam group in 1–3 acts as a tridentate ligand being coordinated to the cobalt(III) (1 and 2)/nickel(II) (3) ions through three nitrogen atoms in a mer-arrangement. Enhancement of the Intermolecular Magnetic Exchange through Halogen···Halogen interactions in Bisadeninium Rhenium(IV) Salts

Two novel ReIV salts of general formula [H2ade]2[ReIVX6]X2·4H2O [H2ade2+ = 9H-adenine-1,7-diium; X = Cl(1) and Br(2)] have been synthesized and magneto-structurally characterized. 1 and 2 are isostructural salts that crystallize in the orthorhombic system with space group Fdd2. Both compounds are made up of discrete mononuclear [ReIVX6]2- and X- anions and doubly protonated adenine cations. The six-coordinate rhenium(IV) ion is bonded to six halide ligands [X = Cl (1) and Br (2)] in an octahedral geometry. Two families of coordination polymers, {[M(btix)(2)(OH(2))(2)]·2NO(3)·2H(2)O}(n) [M = Co (1), Zn (2), Co-Zn (3); btix = 1,4-bis(triazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene] and {[M(btix)(2)(NO(3))(2)]}(n) [M = Co (4), Zn (5), Co-Zn (6)], have been synthesized and characterized. The two conformations of the ligand, syn and anti, lead to one-dimensional (1D) cationic chains or two-dimensional (2D) neutral grids. Extrusion of the water molecules of the 1D compounds results in an irreversible transformation into the 2D compounds, which involves a change in conformation of the btix ligands and a rearrangement in the metal environment with cleavage and reformation of covalent bonds. Highly Anisotropic Rhenium(IV) Complexes: New Examples of Mononuclear Single-Molecule Magnets

The rhenium(IV) complex (NBu4)2[ReBr4(ox)] (1) (ox = oxalate and NBu4(+) = tetra-n-butylammonium cation) has been prepared and its crystal structure determined by X-ray diffraction. The structure is made up of discrete [ReBr4(ox)](2-) anions and bulky NBu4(+) cations. Each [ReBr4(ox)](2-) anion is surrounded by six NBu4(+) cations, which preclude any significant intermolecular contact between the anionic entities, the shortest rhenium···rhenium distance being 9.373(1) Å. The combination of the properly designed novel organic linker, 3,6-N-ditriazoyil-2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone (trz2An), with CoII ions results in a 3D ultramicroporous MOF with high CO2 uptake capacity and separation efficiency, with particular attention to CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 gas mixtures. This material consists of 1D chains of octahedrally coordinated CoII ions linked through the anilato ligands in the equatorial positions and to the triazole substituents from two neighbouring chains in the two axial positions.
