Hairy Garlic (Allium subhirsutum) from Sicily (Italy): LC-DAD-MSn Analysis of Secondary Metabolites and In Vitro Biological Properties

2020

Allium subhirsutum, known as hairy garlic, is a bulbous plant widespread in the Mediterranean area and locally used as a food and spice. In the present study, the chemical profile of the ethanolic extracts from bulbs (BE) and aerial parts (APE) were analyzed by HPLC-ESI-MSn, and antioxidant properties were evaluated by DPPH, ABTS and TEAC assays. The traditional use in the diet, and the well documented biological activity of Allium species suggest a potential as a new nutraceutical. For this reason, the potential usefulness of this food can be considered in the treatment and prevention of degenerative Alzheimer disease. For this reason, acetylcholinesterase inhibitory property was investiga…

Per uno studio dei bozzetti della Fabrique neuve de Cortaillod (XVIII-XIX secolo)

2019

Partendo dall’analisi di un gruppo di bozzetti della Fabrique neuve de Cortaillod (XVIII-XIX secolo), l’autrice prende in esame il processo di interazione tra moda e sviluppo industriale nell’Europa del secondo Settecento, attraverso l’approfondimento dei processi di adattamento dei modelli orientali al gusto europeo e delle tecniche di stampa adottate in Europa Starting from the analysis of a group of sketches of the Fabrique neuve de Cortaillod (18th-19th century), the author examines the process of interaction between fashion and industrial development in Europe in the second half of the 18th century, through an in-depth study of the processes of adaptation of oriental models to European…

Management Elements Proposal for Sutla Natura 2000 Site

2015

Abstract Following the accession of Croatia to the EU, a study was carried out on a Croatian Natura 2000 site which includes habitats used by the following fish species of conservation interest: Eudontomyzon vladykovi, Rhodeus sericeus amarus, Gobio uranoscopus, Romanogobio kesslerii, Barbus meridionalis, Zingel streber and Cottus gobio. Harmful effects on fish fauna were found due to: poorly-integrated water management, over-extraction of water for irrigation, fragmentation of riparian vegetation, low cooperation between environment institutions in Croatia and Slovenia, abuse of pesticides, uncontrolled waste water, sources of chemicals and heavy metals, leakage of nitrogen, habitats fragm…

Graphene films for gas sensing applications

2013

Gas detection at small concentrations is usually done using transition metal oxides. These semiconductors are, however, strongly dependent on parameters and conditions of growth and processing. Graphene attracts a big interest in science and technology due to its exceptional electric properties, and this truly 2-dimensional material has a great promise to be used as highly sensitive gas sensor. In this thesis, CVD and epitaxial graphene samples have been investigated in order to improve their sensitivity in gas sensing applications. The response of the sensor to different concentrations of detected gas was observed as a relative change of resistance of the sample. The aim of this study was …

The Wadi Onib Mafic-Ultramafic Complex: A Neoproterozoic Supra-Subduction Zone Ophiolite in the Northern Red Sea Hills of the Sudan

2004

Publisher Summary The Wadi Onib mafic–ultramafic complex represents the best preserved, though tectonically dismembered, Neoproterozoic (Pan-African) ophiolite in the northern Red Sea Hills of the Sudan. Arabian–Nubian shield (ANS) is the northern continuation of the Mozambique belt and, together, they have been referred to as the East African Orogen (EAO). The Wadi Onib mafic—ultramafic complex constitutes one of the best preserved, though tectonically fragmented, ophiolitic sequence within the ANS and makes up the major part of the prominent, southwest to northeast oriented Onib–Sol Hamed suture. An improved understanding of the composition and history of this complex has important region…

Detrital footprint of the Mozambique ocean: U–Pb SHRIMP and Pb evaporation zircon geochronology of metasedimentary gneisses in eastern Madagascar

2003

Abstract The southern East African Orogen is a collisional belt where the identification of major suture zones has proved elusive. In this study, we apply U–Pb isotopic techniques to date detrital zircons from a key part of the East African Orogen, analyse their possible source region and discuss how this information can help in unravelling the orogen. U–Pb sensitive high-mass resolution ion microprobe (SHRIMP) and Pb evaporation analyses of detrital zircons from metasedimentary rocks in eastern Madagascar reveal that: (1) the protoliths of many of these rocks were deposited between ∼800 and 550 Ma; and (2) these rocks are sourced from regions with rocks that date back to over 3400 Ma, with…
