Not just for the sake of a report : enhancing corporate social responsibility reporting by involving stakeholders
2015
The purpose of this study was to find out if it is possible to improve the case organisation’s corporate social responsibility reporting by involving stakeholders. The research was conducted as a case study in Helen Ltd, a Finnish energy utility, and it focuses on the stakeholder views of the case company. The frame of reference for the study is stakeholder theory. The literature review focuses especially on the role of stakeholder involvement in corporate social responsibility reporting. The research data was gathered using a multiple strategy approach via an online survey and a workshop. The data was analysed both quantitatively and qualitatively using content analysis. In the analysis, t…
Corporate social irresponsibility & electronic word of mouth : case Volkswagen emissions crisis
2017
Even though corporations’ interest towards corporate social responsibility (CSR) has significantly increased in the last decades, organizations still commit various acts of corporate social irresponsibility (CSI). At the same time the emergence of social media has offered stakeholders interact in ways formerly unimaginable, and the content of these conversations is slipping further away of organizational control. This research participates the theoretical conversations of CSR, CSI and stakeholder research as well as the active stream of social media and electronic word of mouth (eWOM) research. This thesis is a case study researching eWOM related to Volkswagen emissions crisis in 2015. As t…
Kriittinen diskurssianalyysi yritysfilantropiasta : tarkastelu kolmesta suomalaisesta pörssiyrityksestä talouden eri sykleissä
2014
Yritysten sosiaalinen vastuu on noussut kuluneen vuosikymmenen aikana merkittäväksi tutkimuskohteeksi niin koti- kuin ulkomaillakin. Tämän seurauksena aikaisemmassa akateemisessa, tieteellisessä tutkimuksessa yritysten sosiaalista vastuuta on tutkittu monesta eri näkökulmasta. Aikaisemmissa tutkimuksissa on lisäksi tunnistettu tarve diskursiivisille yrityksen sosiaalisen vastuun tutkimuksille.
Modulations of corticospinal excitability following rapid ankle dorsiflexion in skill- and endurance-trained athletes
2022
Abstract Purpose Long-term sports training, such as skill and endurance training, leads to specific neuroplasticity. However, it remains unclear if muscle stretch-induced proprioceptive feedback influences corticospinal facilitation/inhibition differently between skill- and endurance-trained athletes. This study investigated modulation of corticospinal excitability following rapid ankle dorsiflexion between well-trained skill and endurance athletes. Methods Ten skill- and ten endurance-trained athletes participated in the study. Corticospinal excitability was tested by single- and paired-pulse transcranial magnetic stimulations (TMS) at three different latencies following passive rapid ankl…
Public relations and expectation theory : Introducing Relationship Expectation Theory (RET) for public relations
2021
Expectations provide organizations with information and cues about their stakeholders’ and publics’ values, interests, experiences, and knowledge. This chapter argues for a move that takes expectations beyond the current cursory level for different areas of public relations—reputation management, corporate responsibility, issues management, and legitimacy—toward explicit theoretical understanding and models for addressing expectations. The chapter introduces expectations as an intersecting phenomenon in public relations research and builds postulations for theorizing expectations in public relations by reviewing theories that address expectations in relationships, and by exploring different…
Hemoglobin mass and performance responses during 4 weeks of normobaric “live high–train low and high”
2023
Purpose To investigate whether 4 weeks of normobaric “live high–train low and high” (LHTLH) causes different hematological, cardiorespiratory, and sea-level performance changes compared to living and training in normoxia during a preparation season. Methods Nineteen (13 women, 6 men) cross-country skiers competing at the national or international level completed a 28-day period (∼18 h day−1) of LHTLH in normobaric hypoxia of ∼2400 m (LHTLH group) including two 1 h low-intensity training sessions per week in normobaric hypoxia of 2500 m while continuing their normal training program in normoxia. Hemoglobin mass (Hbmass) was assessed using a carbon monoxide rebreathing method. Time to exhaust…
Durability is improved by both low and high intensity endurance training
2023
Introduction: This is one of the first intervention studies to examine how low- (LIT) and high-intensity endurance training (HIT) affect durability, defined as ‘time of onset and magnitude of deterioration in physiological-profiling characteristics over time during prolonged exercise’.Methods: Sedentary and recreationally active men (n = 16) and women (n = 19) completed either LIT (average weekly training time 6.8 ± 0.7 h) or HIT (1.6 ± 0.2 h) cycling for 10 weeks. Durability was analyzed before and after the training period from three factors during 3-h cycling at 48% of pretraining maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max): 1) by the magnitude and 2) onset of drifts (i.e. gradual change in energy ex…

The aggregation of sustainability performance measuring at company level : a case study
2015
Industrial companies face constant scrutiny about their sustainability performance development and comprehensive sustainability performance measuring is demanded from them. Companies are measuring their sustainability performance with various and multitude indicators, but it is difficult to look into the overall sustainability performance of companies based on plentiful and variable sustainability measures. There is no universally accepted method to measure the overall sustainability performance of a company, though tools for this purpose are developed. This qualitative case study research aims to shed light on whether the sustainability indicators of a case company could be aggregated in a…
Sustainability initiatives and the stakeholders involved : a case study of the GOLDEN Project and the electric utility industry
2017
This piece of research focuses primarily on which are the main types of sustainability initiatives within the electric utility sector with direct attention on five companies being Eletrobras, Rheinisch-Westfälisches Elektrizitätswerk AG, Fortum, Copel and Edison. Additionally this research looks at the primary stakeholders who are both the drivers and recipients of these specific set of sustainability initiatives. In order to obtain results to these questions, I examined the sustainability reports of the five aforementioned companies for years 2008 and 2014 from the GOLDEN Project database. I used qualitative content analysis as my method to establish which initiatives and stakeholders were…
