Challenges of translation process research at the workplace
2014
Translation usually takes place at translators’ workplaces, yet much translation process research refers to data collected under controlled conditions such as the classroom or the lab. Pursuant with recent descriptions of translation as a situated activity comes the necessity of investigating that activity where and when it occurs. Many of the methods that have proved useful in the lab have also been applied in the field, and some of the challenges associated with investigating translation at the workplace are common to any kind of empirical translation research. However, certain workplace constraints present special challenges to everyone involved. Some solutions that were developed for a …
Neptunium(V) Sorption and Diffusion in Opalinus Clay
2009
The sorption and diffusion behavior of 8 x 10(-6) M Np(V) in Opalinus Clay (OPA) with synthetic pore water (pH 7.6) as mobile phase was studied under ambient conditions by batch and diffusion experiments, respectively. The Kd value determined by batch experiments with OPA suspensions is equal to 0.025 +/- 0.005 m3/kg. The diffusion-accessible porosity epsilon of intact OPA as determined by through- and out-diffusion experiments with tritiated water (HTO) is equal to 0.15 +/- 0.01. The diffusion coefficient De and the rock capacity factor alpha of 22Na+ in OPA were measured by through-, out-, and in-diffusion experiments and asserted the reliability of these diffusion techniques. For the dif…
Public acceptance of semi-automated truck platoon driving. A comparison between Germany and California
2020
Abstract Platooning technology aims at achieving fuel savings by reducing the distance between two or more electronically coupled vehicles. This technology has recently been tested on public highways with heavy trucks in Germany and California. The objective of this study is to assess the level of acceptance among other road users as well as influencing factors of acceptance. An online questionnaire was administered in Germany and California with a total of N = 536 participants. They received information about truck platoon driving (level-1 and level-2 automation) and answered questions about their attitudes towards the technology as well as their behavioral intention to cooperate with the …

Contact-Induced Convergence: Typology and Areality
2006
From an integrative perspective, research on language typology and research on areality understood in terms of contact-induced convergence are mutually dependent. Typologists need to be aware that their generalizations are as reliable as they manage to integrate effects of contact into their statistics. Contact linguists need to be aware that typological findings may not qualify as independent evidence for their field. Thus, typologists and contact linguists both need to have certain information concerning each other's field. For that reason, this article covers both fields under one title. The article is divided into three main sections. The first deals with language contact and its struct…

Mixed l-/l1 fault detection observer design for positive switched systems with time-varying delay via delta operator approach
2014
Published version of an article in the journal: International Journal of Control, Automation and Systems. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s12555-013-0466-1 This paper investigates the problem of fault detection observer design for positive switched systems with time-varying delay via delta operator approach. A new fault sensitivity measure, called l-index, is proposed. The l- fault detection observer design and multi-objective l -/l1 fault detection observer design problems are addressed. Based on the average dwell time approach and the piecewise copositive type Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional method in delta domain, sufficient conditions for the existence of …
International Vocational Education and Training Research: An Introduction to the Special Issue
2021
The seven articles in this special issue represent a wide range of international comparative and review studies by international research teams from China, Germany, India, Russia, Switzerland and Mexico. The presented projects are part of the national program "Research on the Internationalisation of Vocational Education and Training", funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). An adapted version of Urie Bronfenbrenners ecological systems theory forms the conceptual framework of the special issue. The four system levels (micro, meso, exo and macro) are addressed by one article each. The article on the microsystem level focuses on the intended and implemented c…
Procedūras cīņai ar naudas atmazgāšanu attīstītajās valstīs
2019
Spin Switching in Molecular Quantum Cellular Automata Based on Mixed-Valence Tetrameric Units
2016
In this article we focus on the study of spin effects in a single square-planar mixed-valence cell comprising two electrons and in coupled molecular cells for quantum cellular automata. Using the vibronic model we demonstrate that the polarizabilities of the cell are different in spin-singlet and spin-triplet states of the electronic pair. Based on this inference the concept of spin switching in molecular quantum cellular automata is proposed, and the conditions under which this effect is feasible are derived. In order to reveal these conditions we have performed a series of quantum-mechanical calculations of the vibronic energy levels of the isolated cell and of the cell subjected to the e…
