Profiling development of burnout over eight years: relation with job demands and resources
2020
The aim of the present study was twofold: First, to profile the long-term development of burnout symptoms (exhaustion, cynicism and reduced professional efficacy), and second, to investigate the associations of developmental burnout profiles with job demands and resources. The study focused on Finnish white-collar professionals (N = 169) who participated in a survey five times during eight years (in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2014). At each measurement time, the participants filled in the same scales of burnout, job demands and job resources. Using Latent Profile Analysis (LPA), three developmental profiles of burnout symptoms were identified: 1) Stable, low burnout (78%), 2) Exhaustion in…
Do Unnecessary Tasks Impair Performance Because They Harm Living a Calling? : Testing a Mediation in a Three-Wave Study
2021
This three-wave study explored whether living a calling (at work) mediated the relation between unnecessary tasks (time wasting work tasks) and socio-contextual performance at work (cynicism, organizational citizenship behavior). Participants were 518 Finnish white- and blue-collar employees, who were followed up in 2018, 2019, and 2020. The results of structural equation modeling showed that unnecessary tasks at Time 1 related negatively to living a calling at Time 2, which, in turn, related to cynicism and organizational citizenship behavior at T3. Thus, living a calling mediated the relation between unnecessary tasks and the outcomes. We found no evidence for the moderator role of living…
What's in it for me and you? : Exploring managerial perceptions of employees' work-related social media use
2022
PurposeThis study focuses on managers' perceptions of employees' communicative role in social media, and explores the changes in the contractual nature of employment relations in mediatized workplaces in which the boundaries of professional and private life are becoming more fluid.Design/methodology/approachA qualitative approach was employed to explore this relatively new phenomenon. The data, comprising 24 interviews with managers responsible for corporate communication and human resources in knowledge-intensive organizations, was thematically analysed.FindingsThe analysis shows that employees' work-related social media use creates new types of exchanges and dependencies between an organi…
Det er tungt å bære sekken, men det er tyngre å bære på unyttige tanker : En kvalitativ studie om på hvilken måte friluftsliv og opphold i naturen ka…

Masteroppgave folkehelsevitenskap ME516 - Universitetet i Agder 2017 Introduction: As a result of the growth in mental illnesses and the industrial society, there is an increased need for a place where humans can reconnect and find peace. Science shows that almost one out of four grown up Norwegians has a mental disorder, and that physical activity, especially by spending time in nature, can contribute to the recovery. To accommodate these challenges, I believe that science can offer a better understanding on how we can facilitate for health promotion accompanied with nature. Objective and key question: The purpose of this study is to get a better and holistic understanding on how the natur…
2016
Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin Psychotherapy Process Q-set -menetelmän (PQS) ominaisuuksia ja sovellettavuutta pari- ja perheterapian näkökulmasta. Tarkastelu suoritettiin asiantuntija-arvioiden avulla kolmessa eri vaiheessa. Asiantuntijoina toimi joukko suomalaisia perheterapiakouluttajia. Ensimmäisessä vaiheessa asiantuntijat (n=8) arvioivat PQS:n kuvaamien yksilöpsykoterapiatekijöiden relevanssia pari- ja perheterapiassa. Toisessa vaiheessa asiantuntijat(n=10) arvioivat muokattujen PQS:n osioiden ja uusien pariterapiaosioiden merkitystä pariterapiaprosessin tutkimisessa. Kolmannessa vaiheessa käytettiin pientä asiantuntijaryhmää(n=5), jonka avulla etsittiin konsensusperiaatetta noudattaen sa…
Family Caregivers' Experiences in Nursing Homes: Narratives on Human Dignity and Uneasiness
2013
This qualitative study focused on dignity in nursing homes from the perspective of family caregivers. Dignity is a complex concept and central to nursing. Dignity in nursing homes is a challenge, according to research. Family caregivers are frequently involved in their family members’ daily experiences at the nursing home. Twenty-eight family caregivers were included in this Scandinavian cross-country, descriptive, and explorative study. A phenomenological-hermeneutic approach was used to understand the meaning of the narrated text. The interpretations revealed two main themes: “One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself” and “Uneasiness due to indignity.” Dignity wa…
Common and separable behavioral and neural mechanisms underlie the generalization of fear and disgust
2021
Generalization represents the transfer of a conditioned responses to stimuli that resemble the conditioned stimulus (CS). Previous studies on generalization of defensive avoidance responses have primarily focused on fear and have neglected disgust generalization, which represents a key pathological mechanism in some anxiety disorders. In the present study we examined common and distinct mechanisms of fear and disgust generalization by means of a fear or disgust multi-CS conditioning and generalization paradigm with concomitant event-related potential (ERPs) acquisition in n = 62 subjects. We demonstrate that compared to fear, disgust-relevant generalized stimuli (GS) elicited larger expecta…
Integrin cytoplasmic domain and pITAM compete for spleen tyrosine kinase binding
2019
ABSTRACTIn hematopoietic tissues cell-cell communication involves immunoreceptors and specialized cell adhesion receptors that both mediate intracellular signals. Spleen tyrosine kinase (Syk) is a non-receptor tyrosine kinase involved in the downstream signaling of both immunoreceptors tyrosine activation motif (ITAM) receptors and integrin family cell adhesion receptors. Both phosphorylated ITAM (pITAM) and integrins bind to the regulatory domain of Syk composed of two Src homology 2 (SH2) domains. The interaction with pITAM is mediated by binding of a specific phosphotyrosine to each of the SH2 domains, leading to conformational changes and Syk kinase activation. Integrins bind to the int…
Method for estimating charge breeder ECR ion source plasma parameters with short pulse 1+ injection of metal ions
2020
Abstract A new method for determining plasma parameters from beam current transients resulting from short pulse 1+ injection of metal ions into a charge breeder electron cyclotron resonance ion source has been developed. The proposed method relies on few assumptions, and yields local values for the ionisation times 1 / n e σ v q → q + 1 inz , charge exchange times 1 / n 0 σ v q → q − 1 cx , the ion confinement times τ q , as well as estimates for the minimum plasma energy contents n e E e and the plasma triple products n e E e τ q . The method is based on fitting the current balance equation on the extracted beam currents of high charge state ions, and using the fitting coefficients to dete…
