Itseyden konstituutio kehitysprosessina : näkökulmia itseyden muodostumiseen Erik H. Eriksonin psykoanalyyttisen kehitysteorian ja Charles Taylorin f…
2007
Development and Initial Validation of the Humor Climate in Sport Scale
2021
In sport teams, humor is an essential element that influences communication processes, and plays an important role in group dynamics. Despite this, no current instrument is presented in the literature to measure humor climate in sport teams. Therefore, the current study presents the development and initial validation of the Humor Climate in Sport Scale (HCSS). The aim was to assess content, structural and concurrent validity of the developed instrument, and to examine differential item functioning (DIF) as a function of sex. Three different phases were completed in this study. The first phase involved focus groups (n= 5) that explored humor as communication in a team sport context. In phase…
Factors mediating social media-induced fear of missing out (FoMO) and social media fatigue: A comparative study among Instagram and Snapchat users
2022
The proliferation of social media platforms has provided researchers with ample opportunities to explore the implications of these platforms' positive and negative use. Focusing on the latter, the literature has highlighted the severe implications of the fear of missing out (FoMO) and its associations with negative aspects of social media use, such as the problematic use of social media, phubbing, and reduced well-being. Our study investigates the association between FoMO and social media fatigue, which is mediated by information and communication overload, online subjective well-being (OSWB), and compulsive social media use (compulsive use). The proposed model is grounded strongly in self-…
How Can Authorities Support Distributed Improvisation During Major Crises? A Study of Decision Bottlenecks Arising During Local COVID-19 Vaccine Roll…
2022
Despite the increased importance attributed to distributed improvisation in major crises, few studies investigate how central authorities can promote a harmonic, coordinated national response while allowing for distributed autonomy and improvisation. One idea implicit in the literature is that central authorities could help track and tackle common decision bottlenecks as they emerge across “improvising” local authorities as a result of shared, dynamic external constraints. To explore this idea we map central functions needed to roll-out vaccines to local populations and identify and classify bottlenecks to decision-making by local authorities managing COVID-19 vaccine roll-out in Norway. W…
Citizen-Patient Involvement in the Development of mHealth Technology: Protocol for a Systematic Scoping Review
2020
Background The development of mobile technology for information retrieval and communication, both at individual and health organizational levels, has been extensive over the last decade. Mobile health (mHealth) technology is rapidly adapting to the health care service contexts to improve treatment, care, and effectiveness in health care services. Objective The overall aim of this scoping review is to explore the role of citizen-patient involvement in the development of mHealth technology in order to inform future interventions. By identifying key characteristics of citizen-patient involvement in system development, we aim to improve digital communication and collaboration between health ca…
Predicting accelerometer-based physical activity in physical education and total physical activity: The Self-determination Theory approach
2019
The present study tested the motivational model of physical education (PE) including needs for competence, autonomy, social relatedness, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, in-class moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA), and total MVPA. Participants were 490 (264 girls, 226 boys) Finnish elementary school students. The data were collected using accelerometers and questionnaires for a seven-day period during the fall semester 2017. The key findings were that 1) social relatedness associated with total MVPA via in-class MVPA in girls, whereas competence was linked to in-class MVPA through extrinsic motivation in boys, 2) competence was positively linked to extrinsic motivation in a si…
A one-year follow-up of basic psychological need satisfactions in physical education and associated in-class and total physical activity
2020
This study examined basic psychological need satisfactions for competence, autonomy, and social relatedness in physical education (PE) and their contributions to accelerometer-based in-class and total moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) across a one-year follow-up (T1). Participants were 523 students (girls 280, boys 243; mean age = 11.26 ± 0.31) and the data were collected using self-reports and waist-worn accelerometers. The key findings were: (a) competence and social relatedness need satisfaction at baseline (T0) predicted total MVPA at T1 via total MVPA at T0; (b) in-class MVPA at T0 predicted total MVPA at T1 via total MVPA at T0; (c) in-class MVPA was directly associated w…

Fast Poisson solvers for graphics processing units
2013
Two block cyclic reduction linear system solvers are considered and implemented using the OpenCL framework. The topics of interest include a simplified scalar cyclic reduction tridiagonal system solver and the impact of increasing the radix-number of the algorithm. Both implementations are tested for the Poisson problem in two and three dimensions, using a Nvidia GTX 580 series GPU and double precision floating-point arithmetic. The numerical results indicate up to 6-fold speed increase in the case of the two-dimensional problems and up to 3- fold speed increase in the case of the three-dimensional problems when compared to equivalent CPU implementations run on a Intel Core i7 quad-core CPU…
#Makeadifference : A thesis exploring motivations and purpose for social media use within Norwegian Citizen Initiatives for Global Solidarity
2021
Master's thesis in Global Development and Planning (UT505) This thesis explores motivations and purpose for social media use within nine Norwegian Citizen Initiatives for Global Solidarity (CIGS). There is little research about these small development actors in Norway and especially regarding how social media is used. Their contribution to the international development scheme is often not recognized, but it is believed that their influence is substantial. As many others, the initiatives use social media to document and inform about their projects and interventions. Considering we are in the midst of a pandemic; this study has also taken a further look at how COVID-19 has affected the CIGS a…
