How value and trust influence loyalty in wireless telecommunications industry
2012
Despite making significant investments in enhancing the customer service experience, long-term customer loyalty remains an elusive dream for many service providers. Particularly in the telecommunications industry, switching providers even from within continuous contract relationships is easy and companies struggle to retain their customers. Trust and value are considered cornerstones of long-term relationships, so it is perhaps surprising that previous research on how relationship age and usage level actually affect value, trust and loyalty is inconclusive. The current research is set in the telecommunications services field and draws on a large-scale survey undertaken in Finland. The findi…
Introduction: On the Complex Ecology of Language Learning ‘in the Wild’
2019
This introduction explicates the central issues informing the chapters in the volume. We outline the epistemological development of Second Language Acquisition research as it has evolved from being predominantly individual-cognitive to a more pluralistic endeavor in which social approaches to cognition and learning are becoming central. Social interaction has been recognized as key to language learning since the 1970’s but the field is still lacking in research that studies the everyday social-interactional ecology in which the L2 speaker acts. We argue that it is time to broaden contexts for empirical investigations to study language learning in the full ecology of ‘the wild’, that is, in …

PRATIQUES INFO-COMMUNICATIONNELLES ET MOBILISATION SOCIALE À L'ÈRE D'INTERNET : LE CAS DE L'ITALIE
2013

A survey on peer-to-peer SIP based communication systems
2010
Published version of an article from the journal: Peer-to-Peer Networking and Applications. The original publication is available at Spingerlink. http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s12083-009-0064-4 Recently, both academia and industry have initiated research projects directed on integration of P2PSIP paradigm into communication systems. In this paradigm, P2P network stores most of the network information on each participating peer without help of the central servers. The concept of self-configuration, self-establishment greatly improves the robustness of the network system compared with the traditional Client/Server based systems. In this paper, we survey P2PSIP solutions proposed recently both in …
Virtual Reality Arcades : A Study on Usage Habits with Emphasis on Digital Gaming
2019
Virtual reality (VR) and VR gaming have seen substantial advancement during the recent years both in terms of technological development and the number of users. A notable rise has also occurred in the number of VR arcades. Despite the growing academic interest towards VR and VR gaming, there is still a dearth of understanding on the usage aspects of VR gaming and VR arcades. To address this gap, this study explored the habits of using VR arcades with emphasis on digital gaming. Specific focus was set on investigating differences between gender, age, and physical activity background. The study was exploratory in nature and based on a quantitative analysis of data collected from 126 responden…
THE ARCHETYPE OF PARADISE: DYING IN HOLIDAYS DOES NOT SOUND COOL
2014
Holidays play a vital role in the configuration of our life. Our most profound expectances are posed to this magic moment. However, under some contexts, what starts as a dream ends in a nightmare. It is unfortunate this is the case of victims of Villa Gesell’s tragedy, resulted when a ray impacted directly to a beach. Nobody is immune of tragedy, even at holidays. This essay review explores not only the anthropological roots of risk and paradise, but also the journalist discourse to cover the event. Far from the general opinion, disasters affect tourism, we strongly believe it strengths its attractiveness.
Traffic management and user perception: an analysis of Variable Message Signs using Fuzzy Logic
2009
Variable message signs have today become an indispensable tool for managing traffic in urban and suburban areas, such as sending real-time information to motorists in transit along roads where panels are positioned. The study draws on drivers’ response to a series of interviews conducted in the city of Brescia. The interviews showed that a large proportion of drivers does not read the messages, and indeed very often does not even remember having seeing the sign. The marginal usefulness of these facilities can probably be attributed to the fact that the panels are constantly used to display messages devoid of immediate interest (eg, greetings, penalties for traffic violations, general inform…
Activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase extracellular signal-related kinase in head and neck squamous cell carcinomas after irradiation as par…
2010
Background. Irradiation plays a pivotal role in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) treatment. However, especially recurrent tumors frequently show increased radioresistance. We analyzed irradiation-stimulated mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathways to define cellular rescue mechanisms. Methods. Irradiated HNSCC cells were screened for MAPK activation and results were confirmed and refined by functional analyses. Extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) inhibitor U0126 application enabled us to specify postradiogenic cellu- lar responses. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) levels were analyzed additionally. Results. We observed a pronounced and time-de…
