Basaloid squamous cell carcinoma: report of five cases.

2009

Objectives: To document the clinical and histopathological characteristics of basaloid squamous cell carcinoma (BSCC). To add five new cases to the literature and compare them with another published series. Cases: retrospective review of five cases with the diagnosis of BSCC of the larynx. Results: all the patients were male. They were heavy smokers and drinkers. Most of the tumours were supraglottic. Three patients presented with stage-IV disease and the other two with stage-I disease. Surgery supplemented with radiation was used in three patients, partial surgery was used in another case and radiation and associated chemotherapy in the other one. Eight neck dissections were performed, six…

Las pinturas alegórico-mitológicas del palacio Palmerola de Barcelona y su relación con Cesare Ripa

2019

ABSTRACT: This study unveils the meaning of the allegorical-mythological murals, shaped like false sculptures, which frame the scenes of a historical-familial nature decorating the salon of the Palmerola Palace in Barcelona. They were painted at the end of the XVIIIth century by Pedro Pablo Montaña, whose primary literary source was the Iconologyby Cesare Ripa. Based on this text, the painter builds the visual language, whose fidelity to the source is a paradigmatic example of utilization of this source. My research also results in the correction of previous misinterpretations, thus offering a richer and more comprehensive view of the pictorial ensemble.

El programa pictórico del Palau Palmerola en Barcelona. Interpretación de escenas mediante el archivo patrimonial familiar

2016

ABSTRACT: The first Marquis of Palmerola, Francesc Xavier Despujol, remodelled his family residence in 1784, which included a large hall decorated with a pictorial program painted by Pere Pau Montana. These historical paintings depicted episodes of war and peace, related to the family history of the owners, in order to show the importance and roots of their lineage, highlighting their illustrious role in their country’s history and commerce. This constitutes an outright justification of their power, an ostentatious display of their social status and their loyalty to the crown, following the trend amongst the nobility for building these cases grans during the last third of the eighteenth cen…

First Record of the Nematode Physaloptera squamatae in the Helminth Community of the Introduced Anole Anolis grahami (Polychrotidae) on Bermuda

2021

The gastrointestinal helminth communities of five populations of Anolis grahami, an introduced anole on Bermuda, were surveyed to determine the prevalence, abundance, and species diversity of parasites in these reptiles. Only three nematode species were found, Atractis scelopori, Parapharyngodon cubensis, and Physaloptera squamatae. This species, P. squamatae, is recorded for the first time in Anolis grahami on Bermuda, probably introduced through its arthropod intermediate host. The role of the host A. grahami as a “spillover” agent for these parasites is discussed.

Spoguļi un gaismu atstarojošas virsmas interjerā

2017

Darbs sastāv no trīs nodaļām: pirmajā nodaļā tiek pētīta spoguļu rašanas vēsture un to evolūcija; otrajā nodaļā - s…

Redescription ofPhysaloptera brevivaginata Seurat, 1917 (Nematoda: Physalopteridae) from the batMyotis blythii (Tomes) (Chiroptera: Vespertilionidae)…

1995

Physaloptera brevivaginata Seurat, 1917 (Nematoda: Physalopteridae) is redescribed. Seurat's (1917) original description of this species was based on a single immature female. Detailed morphological study of several males, mature and, above all, immature females from the stomach of the lesser mouse-eared batMyotis blythii (Tomes) (Chiroptera: Vespertilionidae) in Spain, has elucidated many new morphological characters. This physalopterid species is distinguished from other closely-related species by the lengths of the body and spicules, the equatorial position of the vulva, the morphology of the female reproductive system and by a small conical process on the tail of mature females.M. blyth…

Histopathologic risk factors in oral and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma variants: An update with special reference to HPV-related carcinomas

2014

Accurate identification of the microscopic risk factors of oral and oropharyngeal (OP) squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) and their morphologic variants is of at most importance, as these generally determine treatment modalities, prognosis and overall patient outcome. The great majority of oral and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas are microscopically described as kerartinizing squamous cell carcinoma (KSCC). They bear certain resemblance to keratinizing stratified squamous epithelium. Tobacco habits and excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages have been considered to be the main etiologic agents in these carcinomas. The tumors occurred in older patients more commonly affected the oral…
