Uncommon Synchronous Association between Ovarian Carcinoma and Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor: A Case Study and Literature Review

2013

Background The association of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) and other cancers is well known, but its synchronous occurrence with gynecological malignancies is very uncommon. Usually, the diagnosis is accidentally established. We describe a patient with GIST and concurrent ovarian cancer and discuss the clinical implications of this finding. Case report A 64-year-old woman with a prior diagnosis of ovarian cancer developed a second recurrence after having undergone two operations and adjuvant chemotherapy. While tumor debulking was performed, a small, nonsuspicious lesion was removed from the greater curvature of the stomach. Histology revealed a GIST. Conclusion The association of …

Laparoscopic management of an isolated left fallopian tube torsion due to twisted Morgagni hydatid in a pre-menarcheal girl.

2014

Isolated torsion of fallopian tube, meanwhile uncommon, should be considered in diagnosis of pelvic and lower abdominal pain. US investigation is an useful diagnostic tool. A prompt diagnosis could avoid salpingectomy and preserve fertility. Laparoscopy, as the first approach, should be preferred. We report a case of isolated tubal torsion occurring in a premenarcheal girl successfully managed by laparoscopy.

Successful in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer after limited surgical treatment for tubal adenocarcinoma.

1989

A 29-year-old woman with tubal adenocarcinoma stage IA was treated only with bilateral salpingectomy, pelvic lymphadenectomy, and omentectomy. Two years later the patient successfully underwent in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer, and at 39 weeks gave birth to a healthy son by cesarean section. The result of oncologic follow-up 3 years after surgery is negative.

Reproductive outcomes after expectant and surgical management for tubal pregnancy: a retrospective study

2023

Background: The management of ectopic pregnancy is widely debated. Salpingectomy, salpingostomy, and expectant management are widely performed, but the best approach in terms of keeping good future spontaneous fertility chances is yet to be determined. Material and methods: We performed a retrospective analysis (Clinical Trial ID: NCT05479786) of the medical records of patients with an ultrasonographic or surgical diagnosis of tubal ectopic pregnancy that were admitted to the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre between 2012 and 2020. Results: A total of 312 patients were included in the analysis. Patients managed expectantly and patients treated with salpingostomy had significantly highe…

Early diagnosis and surgical management of heterotopic pregnancy allows us to save the intrauterine pregnancy

2021

Heterotopic pregnancy is a rare but intriguing disease, which poses a high risk for pregnant women and for intrauterine pregnancy. Clinically, it is mainly characterized by pain and vaginal bleeding. b-hCG serum dosage is used to detect the pregnancy, but transvaginal ultrasound is needed to diagnose heterotopic pregnancy. From all the risk factors, the assisted reproductive treatments represent the most important, especially when multiple embryos are transferred. Patients with a heterotopic pregnancy are at risk of having a spontaneous or medically induced abortion, and for this reason appropriate and tailored treatment should be considered, pursuing the optimal risk/benefit ratio.
