Fermentation profiles of Manzanilla-Aloreña cracked green table olives in different chloride salt mixtures.

NaCl plays an important role in table olive processing affecting the flavour and microbiological stability of the final product. However, consumers demand foods low in sodium, which makes necessary to decrease levels of this mineral in fruits. In this work, the effects of diverse mixtures of NaCl, CaCl2 and KCl on the fermentation profiles of cracked directly brined Manzanilla-Aloreña olives, were studied by means of response surface methodology based in a simplex lattice mixture design with constrains. Soil chemical and biochemical properties of a salt-marsh alluvial Spanish area after long-term reclamation

Marisma, one of the largest salt-marsh alluvial areas in SW Spain, has been reclaimed since 1970 by artificial drainage and amendment with phosphogypsum (PG) so as to reduce Na+ saturation. Within the reclaimed area, two 250- × 20-m plots were treated as follows: (1) amendment with 25 Mg/ha of PG every 2 to 3 years between 1979 and 2003 (plot PY); (2) like PY but PG treatment stopped after 1997 (plot DR). A contiguous virgin Marisma salt-marsh plot (MV), neither drained nor amended, was the control. Efficient Synthesis of β-Halogeno Protected L-Alanines and Their β-Phosphonium Derivatives.

Abstract Ring opening of oxazolines, prepared from l -serinates, with trimethylsilyl halides (TMSX) led to β-halogeno-N-benzoyl-α-amino esters in good to excellent yields. Quaternization of triphenylphosphine by the β-bromo or -iodo amino esters gave the corresponding β-phosphonium salts in overall yields of up to 93% and with e.e. >96%. Hydrolysis of the ester function afforded the phosphonium salt bearing an N-benzoyl-α-amino acid substituent, with partial racemization. However, the reaction of the TMSX with the carboxylic salt, prepared by saponification of the starting oxazoline ester, furnished the corresponding β-halogeno-N-benzoyl-α-amino acids in 70–95% yields. Abstract The synthesis, structure and physical properties of two new radical salts formed with the organic donor bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene (BEDT-TTF or ET) and a racemic mixture of the chiral anion (tris(tetrachlorobenzenediolato)phosphate(V)) (TRISPHAT) are reported. The structure of the salts (ET)4[TRISPHAT]4 · 3.5H2O (1) and (ET)(TRISPHAT) · CH2Cl2 · CH3CN (2) has been solved by X-ray single crystal diffraction. Unusual packings of ET molecules are obtained in the two structures. The electrical properties indicate that both compounds are insulators. Abstract Dissolution of [(μ-Me2CO)3(NaTp*)2] (1) (Tp* = hydrido-tris(3,5-dimethyl-1-pyrazolyl)borate) in DMSO at room temperature leads to the growth of colourless crystals characterized as the new salt [Na2Tp*(μ-Me2SO)3(Me2SO)3] [NaTp* 2] (2). 2 crystallized in the trigonal space group R3 with Z = 3, a = 14.1227(2) Å, b = 14.1227(10) Å, c = 33.9685(2) Å, and V = 5867.35(17) Å3. Interestingly, anion and cation of 2 both contain the Tp* ligand. Moreover, the cationic moiety highlights an unusual sodium atom hexacoordinated by six DMSO molecules acting as O-bonded ligands. Double asymmetric intramolecular aza-Michael reaction: a convenient strategy for the synthesis of quinolizidine alkaloids.

A new methodology to access the quinolizidine skeleton in an asymmetric fashion was devised. It involves two consecutive intramolecular aza-Michael reactions of sulfinyl amines bearing a bis-enone moiety, in turn generated by a monodirectional cross metathesis reaction. The sequence, which takes place with excellent yields and diastereocontrol, was applied to the total synthesis of alkaloids lasubine I and myrtine.
