Synthesis of high-surface area CeO2 through silica xerogel template: influence of cerium salt precursor”;

2010

Abstract Ceria nanosized oxides with high surface area were synthesized by means of a templating approach, using a porous silica xerogel with surface area as high as 718 m2/g. After impregnation of the silica template with the cerium salt solution and further calcination at 600 °C, the final ceria oxide was recovered by dissolving the silica framework in NaOH solution. The effect of cerium counteranion, nitrate or chloride, on the textural and reduction properties of the ceria oxide was examined. Characterizations by BET and pore size distribution, XRD, TPR and SEM/EDX techniques were performed. The silica xerogel templated approach resulted in the preparation of ceria with surface area of …

Lithium salt additives and the influence of their counterion on the performances of light-emitting electrochemical cells

2016

In this work we study the effect of the addition of lithium salts to light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs), and in particular the effect of the lithium counterion. We found that the chosen lithium salts can substantially improve the device turn-on time as well as the overall lifetime, with respect to reference LECs using the pure emitter. A correlation between the lithium counterion and the corresponding device performance is established, and efficient LECs with lifetimes approaching 2000 hours are presented.

Electrochemical performance of Na2FeP2O7/C cathode for sodium-ion batteries in electrolyte with fluoroethylene carbonate additive

2022

Abstract Solution synthesis was used to prepare pristine Na2FeP2O7 and Na2FeP2O7/C composite cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries, using glucose as a carbon source. While the pristine Na2FeP2O7 displays capacity of only 45 mAh/g due to the relatively large grain size, the addition of carbon increases the capacity to up to 92 mAh/g (95% of the theoretical 97 mAh/g capacity) with excellent rate capability, as 44 mAh/g capacity is still retained even at 20 C (1.94 A/g) current. The optimal content of carbon was found to be 4.8%. The initial capacity of 81 mAh/g is fully retained after 500 cycles at 1 C, indicating excellent cycle life. Measurements were carried out in 1 M NaClO4 salt in …

Maximizing the emissive properties of CH3NH3PbBr3 perovskite nanoparticles

2015

Highly luminescent and photostable CH3NH3PbBr3 nanoparticles have been prepared by fine-tuning the molar ratio between CH3NH3Br, PbBr2, a medium-size alkyl-chain ammonium salt, and 1-octadecene. The nanoparticles exhibit an excellent photoluminescence quantum yield (ca. 83%) and average recombination lifetime (ca. 600 ns) in toluene dispersion.

The glass transition behaviour of salted nylon 6

1981

Glass transition measurements of nylon-6/lithium halides mixtures have been carried out in wide range of frequency with the aid of different experimental techniques. The results show an increase of the glass transition temperature when the salt is present and prove the larger effectiveness of lithium chloride with respect of lithium bromide. This effect, in line with the large reduction of the specific volume caused by the salt, is due to the formation of a pseudo-cross-linking between lithium ions and the carbonyl-oxygen groups of the polyamide.

Hybrid materials from organic polymers and inorganic salts

1994

The prepaparation of amorphous, homogeneous blends of zwitterionic polymers and transition metal salts was investigated. Homogeneous miscibility was achieved in many cases up to equimolar amounts of salt, depending on the anion and cation chosen. Various analytical techniques point to a solid state solution of the inorganic ions in the polymer matrix.

Highly cross-linked imidazolium salt entrapped magnetic particles – preparation and applications

2012

Magnetic particles entrapped into highly cross-linked imidazolium salts were synthesized using a straightforward approach by radical polymerization of bis-vinylimidazolium salts in the presence of superparamagnetic iron oxide particles. Potential applications for these new materials as (i) catalysts for conversion of propylene oxide to propylene carbonate, (ii) supports for organocatalysts, and (iii) scavenger materials for palladium removal are outlined.

Microfluidic Pumping by Micromolar Salt Concentrations

2017

An ion-exchange-resin-based microfluidic pump is introduced that utilizes trace amounts of ions to generate fluid flows. We show experimentally that our pump operates in almost deionized water for periods exceeding 24h and induces fluid flows of um/s over hundreds of um. This flow displays a far-field, power-law decay which is characteristic of two-dimensional (2D) flow when the system is strongly confined and of three-dimensional (3D) flow when it is not. Using theory and numerical calculations we demonstrate that our observations are consistent with electroosmotic pumping driven by umol/L ion concentrations in the sample cell that serve as 'fuel' to the pump. Our study thus reveals that t…

Salt and fat contents influence the microstructure of model cheeses, chewing/swallowing andin vivoaroma release

2013

The effects of the lipid/protein ratio (20/28, 24/24, 28/20) and salt content of model cheeses were investigated simultaneously with respect to chewing behaviour, swallowing events and in vivo aroma release. Chewing parameters were measured by electromyography. Swallowing events were recorded manually. In vivo aroma release was investigated using nose-space on-line atmospheric pressure chemical ionisation-mass spectrometry. The values for chewing activity and time before swallowing were higher with lower lipid/protein ratios and lower salt contents, due to the greater mechanical resistance of the model cheeses. The corresponding microstructure was made up of smaller and more circular fat dr…
