Cholestatic liver injury results from impaired bile flow or metabolism and promotes hepatic inflammation and fibrogenesis. Toxic bile acids that accumulate in cholestasis induce apoptosis and contribute to early cholestatic liver injury, which is amplified by accompanying inflammation. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the role of the antiapoptotic caspase 8-homolog cellular FLICE-inhibitory (cFLIP) protein during acute cholestatic liver injury. The effect of the addition of galactooligosaccharides (GOS) on sterol bioaccessibility in three plant sterol (PS)-enriched milk-based fruit beverages (without GOS addition (MfB) and with 2.5 g (MfB-G2) and 5.0 g (MfB-G5) GOS per 250 mL) was evaluated after micellar gastrointestinal digestion. Cholesterol bioaccessibility was very similar among beverages, though a slight significant increase (from 80% to 85%) was observed by the addition of 5.0 g GOS. Partial purification and characterization of an NAD-dependent 3 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase from Clostridium innocuum

In nine strains of Clostridium innocuum, 3 beta-hydroxysteroid-dehydrogenating activities were detected. 3 beta, 7 alpha, 12 alpha-Trihydroxy- and 3 beta-hydroxy-12-keto-5 beta-cholanoic acids were identified as reduction products of the respective 3-keto bile acids by gas-liquid chromatography and gas-liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. One strain was shown to contain a NAD-dependent 3 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase. Enzyme production was constitutive in the absence of added bile acids. Room temperature ionic liquids based on cationic porphyrin derivatives and tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)borate anion

A series of 11 low melting ionic liquids based on meso-substituted A3B -porphyrins and A2B2-porphyrins containing one or two pyridyl substituents have been synthesized in high yields. Three of them are liquids at room temperature. All these porphyrinic salts were characterized by1H NMR,19F NMR, MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, elemental analysis and UV-visible spectroscopy. The thermal properties and conductivity values of these salt derivatives have been also measured. A specific conductivity value of up to 4 mS.cm-1could be obtained for a compound having the counter-anion B(C6F5)4-.
