Flernivåstaten og krisehåndtering: En kommentar
2022
2022
Citizen Coherence and Cultivated Cleanliness: Using Technology-Induced Social Norms to Strengthen Sustainable Household Bonds
2022
Social identity and social capital are critical to human well-being and sustainable development. However, existing research on sustainable behavior typically treats these factors merely as taken-for-granted preconditions to environmental protection. This paper argues that they can also be direct outcomes of environment-oriented efforts, thus becoming drivers of sustainable societies. As part of a larger research project on household recycling and waste behavior, the authors assess and compare perceived social identity and social capital of residents in a multi-family residential dwelling in Sweden before (N = 66) and after (N = 18) exposure to a social norm-based intervention delivered thro…
What is it about humanity that we can't give away to intelligent machines? A European perspective
2021
Abstract One of the most significant recent technological developments concerns the development and implementation of ‘intelligent machines’ that draw on recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. However, there are growing tensions between human freedoms and machine controls. This article reports the findings of a workshop that investigated the application of the principles of human freedom throughout intelligent machine development and use. Forty IS researchers from ten different countries discussed four contemporary AI and humanity issues and the most relevant IS domain challenges. This article summarizes their experiences and opinions regarding four AI and humanity th…
Familiarity with digital twin totality: Exploring the relation and perception of affordances through a Heideggerian perspective
2022
The concept of affordances has become central in information systems literature. However, existing perspectives fall short in providing details on the relational aspect of affordances, which can influence actors' perception of them. To increase granularity and specificity in this regard, researchers have suggested that it be supplemented with other concepts or theories. In this article, we argue that the Heideggerian concepts of ‘familiarity’ and ‘referential totality’ are well suited for increasing our understanding of the relational aspects of affordances in information systems research. To explore this idea, we conducted a case study of a project concerning the development of a digital t…
The Effects of Banning Smartphone Use During Lectures in High Schools : An explanatory case study
2021
Master's thesis in Information systems (IS501) Research context–During the last decade, smartphonehas become an integral part of our lives. It is undeniable that the smartphone has impacted almost every aspect of our lives, and education is no exception. Banning smartphone use is one of the measures that has been implemented in high school to manage excessive smartphone use among students. Developing an appropriate policy to manage smartphone use during lectures can be a difficult task, because it can have a positive impact on their attention and academic performance, while also having a negative impact on their behavior and mentality. Purpose-This study addresses the issue regarding smartp…
Computer Games and ESL Learning : A scientific literature review with hypothetical classroom sessions
2018
Master's thesis education EN502 - University of Agder 2018 The aim of this thesis is to explore scientific literature on the use of computer games as a tool for second language learning, and to use reviewed literature to create hypothetical classrooms sessions in which computer games are used as a tool. Therefore, the thesis question is “What does scientific literature say about the improvement of ESL skills among gamers? Moreover, might this information be helpful in the Norwegian English language classroom?” The work is structured as a three-part study, whereas the first is a literature review on studies related to computer games and language learning. The second part is about didactics; …
Extensive Reading and Language Accuracy Development in the ESL Classroom : A case study of extensive reading and lower secondary learner language in …
2021
Master´s thesis in English (EN502) Reading is an activity with many positive effects, one of which is arguably language improvement. This thesis aims to reinforce this claim by exploring the effects of extensive reading on language skills amongst Norwegian lower secondary school students through a comparative analysis of written pre-and post-texts. A qualitative approach is used to analyze and identify language development following a two-month extensive reading program in an 8th-grade classroom. Additionally, a semi-structured interview with the teacher of the class is carried out. The study reveals that the participating students did not significantly improve their language accuracy throu…
Opportunities and Challenges when Students Work with Vocationally Connected Mathematics Tasks
2021
Students in vocational education in Norway take a compulsory mathematics course in the first year of their programme. This course offers opportunities for engaging with mathematics which can be highly relevant to practice in many workplaces. Working with vocationally connected mathematics tasks, tasks designed to draw on students’ future working contexts, is one way of trying to connect to students’ possible future vocations. This study aims to understand how students interact with such tasks with a particular emphasis on the roles of norms, authenticity and students’ positioning between the practices of school, the workplace and everyday life. In this study, I observed students working wit…
Materiell-kollektiv praksis. En tilnærming til fagdidaktikk for kunst og håndverk utviklet i veveprosjektet : Veve i åpne dører
2021
This study inquires into the potential of a material-collective practice as a pedagogical approach for a world-centred arts and crafts education. It challenges the Norwegian individually centred education policy with its predefined and measurable competencies. This monograph examines and discusses the possibilities when teacher attention shifts from the acquisition of skills and production of objects to the students' encounters with each other, materials and their surroundings. The study's emergent research method, material-collective ethnography, is proposed as a method for teaching practice. This empirical study consists of micro ethnographic fieldwork during an outdoor weaving project wi…
