TONO-reporting in Norwegian Churches : A quantitative study and analysis of reporting practices and its prominence amongst free churches in Norway
2021
Master's thesis in Music management (MU501) Modern churches are some of the most frequent music users in our society. Many of them have several services during a week, and worship music is a very important component here. Contemporary worship music is performed in churches all over the world each week, and new songs are constantly added to the “pool”. This is also the case in Norway. When music is performed, copyright is involved. According to copyright law, music cannot be performed publicly without a license. In Norway, there are certain arrangements to ensure this for music venues, but also for churches. Based on my experience as a worship musician for many years, I wondered how well thi…

Master's thesis Music Management MU501 - University of Agder 2018 The background for this study is the acknowledgment, by academics, researchers and policy makers, of the relevance of Cultural Industries and cultural content created and distributed by them. Cultural products are indeed “complex, ambivalent and contested”, as Hesmondhalgh affirmed: big cultural corporations tend to be motivated by profit maximization, but simultaneously there are many cultural artefacts and organizations that are not moved by capitalistic interests (Hesmondhalgh, 2013, p.5). However, the relation between the artistic and idealistic and the commercial remains cause of tensions in the field of cultural industr…

Master's thesis Music Management MU501 - University of Agder 2018 As we all know the Music has been through quite a shift due to the digitalization both in business models and the way it is structured. There has been little research on the way these changes have affected the specific professions within the industry. This paper aims to look at how these changes have affected the Music Producers labor practices, and how the dynamics between the different parts in the industry has changed. It also aims to look at why it has happened, and what it has led to. The paper concludes with the fact that there is a lot of structural changes that has forced the producers to work different in order to st…

2021
Master's thesis in Music management (MU501) In this thesis the focus mainly lies on how Norwegian artists were reported during the COVID-19 pandemic, from the pandemic came to Norway until the end of this thesis, which is about halfway into 2021. The COVID-19 pandemic drastically changed many artists ́ work-and daily life. In times like these many of us have been given an opportunity to reflect. With the world being forced into more isolation and social distancing this thesis focus lies in attempting to investigate the more introspective effects that the COVID-19 pandemic has had for Norwegian artists. This study has based itself on mainly focusing on using two methods: literature research …

2018
Master's thesis Music Management MU501 - University of Agder 2018 This research paper is addressing the topic of project management within the music industry. The background of this thesis is based on the author’s personal interest in project management and the music business. The objective of this paper is to find out whether project management in the music business is any different than the traditional project management applied in today’s businesses. A few research questions arise from this interest and are treated throughout this essay: Is a project elaborated within the music industry different than any other project? Is taking a normal project management set-up into the music industry…
Hvilken rolle spiller musikken? : En undersøkelse i moderne kunstnerisk ledelse
2020

2017
Master's thesis Music Management MU501 - University of Agder 2017 This thesis is an exploration of how the technological changes have affected adolescents’ use of music. The two extended hypotheses I will explore are: “Adolescents today are not willing to pay for music” and “Adolescents use music to regulate moods and develop their identity”. The reason for choosing these exact hypotheses is an assumption that the digitization of music has led to a decreased willingness to pay for access, while the more abstract use of music in mood regulation and identification is still the same. To explore my hypothesis I conducted two quantitative surveys among adolescents aged 12- 13. I present the resu…
