N-Methyl-4-(4-nitrophenyl)-N-nitroso-1,3-thiazol-2-amine
2017
The title compound, C10H8N4O3S, is almost planar [dihedral angle between the rings = 2.2 (2)°; r.m.s. deviation for the non-H atoms = 0.050 Å]. In the crystal, C—H...O and C—H...N hydrogen bonds link the molecules into (10-2) layers.
Multifocal Biliary Cystadenocarcinoma of the Liver: CT and Pathological Findings
2006
Biliary cystadenocarcinoma is a rare tumor that originates from the hepatobiliary epithelium. Although this tumor can affect any portion of the biliary tree, intrahepatic location is more common. It is usually a slow growing tumor and often asymptomatic until it reaches a considerable size. The lesion is most often solitary and large when discovered; multiple lesions or metastases within the liver are very rare. A 63-year-old man was referred to our institute for weight loss, abdominal discomfort, worsening bulky symptoms in the right upper abdominal quadrant, and an increase in serum aminotransferases that had been present for several months. Spiral CT of the abdomen demonstrated two lesi…
Sosiaalinen ja fyysinen työympäristö osana opettajan pedagogista hyvinvointia
2011

Dose Responsive Effects of Subcutaneous Pentosan Polysulfate Injection in Mucopolysaccharidosis Type VI Rats and Comparison to Oral Treatment
2014
Background We previously demonstrated the benefits of daily, oral pentosan polysulfate (PPS) treatment in a rat model of mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) type VI. Herein we compare these effects to once weekly, subcutaneous (s.c.) injection. The bioavailability of injected PPS is greater than oral, suggesting better delivery to difficult tissues such as bone and cartilage. Injected PPS also effectively treats osteoarthritis in animals, and has shown success in osteoarthritis patients. Methodology/principal findings One-month-old MPS VI rats were given once weekly s.c. injections of PPS (1, 2 and 4 mg/kg, human equivalent dose (HED)), or daily oral PPS (4 mg/kg HED) for 6 months. Serum inflammato…
Guinea pig transglutaminase immunolinked assay does not predict coeliac disease in patients with chronic liver disease
2001
BACKGROUND—It has been suggested that serological screening for coeliac disease (CD) should be performed in patients with chronic unexplained hypertransaminasaemia. AIMS—To evaluate the specificity for CD diagnosis of serum IgA antitissue transglutaminase (tTG) determination in consecutive patients with chronic hypertransaminasaemia using the most widely utilised ELISA based on tTG from guinea pig as the antigen. PATIENTS AND METHODS—We studied 98 patients with chronic hypertransaminasaemia, evaluated for the first time in a hepatology clinic. Serum anti-tTG and antiendomysial (EmA) assays were performed. Patients positive for EmA and/or anti-tTG were proposed for intestinal biopsy. Finally…
Effect of antibodies against cytochrome P-450 on demethylation and denitrosation of N-nitrosodimethylamine and N-nitrosomethylaniline.
1988
Rat liver microsomes which were induced either with ethanol or PB were incubated with NDMA or NMA. Formaldehyde generation and nitrite formation were measured as metabolic parameters for oxidative bioactivation and denitrosation, respectively. The influence of antiserum PB3a1 and PB22 containing antibodies against the corresponding cytochrome P-450 species on both metabolic functions was investigated. The results showed that the influence on formaldehyde production and denitrosation varied independently in that both parameters were either not affected, or influenced in an opposite way, or inhibited to a different degree. Especially remarkable was the 80% inhibition of formaldehyde generatio…
Antibodies to hepatitis B virus x-protein in sera of patients with acute and chronic acitve hepatitis
1989
Sera of patients with acute (AH) and chronic active hepatitis (CAH) were tested for anti-hepatitis B virus (HBV) x-protein (HBx) by immunoblotting, using recombinant MS2- and beta gal-HBx fusion proteins as substrate. Antibodies against HBx were detected in 5 out of 17 patients with AH at an early stage of infection, and in 13 out of 35 patients with CAH. Positive sera from AH patients showed a relatively weak anti-HBx reactivity when compared to sera from CAH patients. In follow up studies we tested serial serum samples from patients positive for anti-HBx. Patients with AH were observed for 3 to 6 weeks and CAH patients for up to 51 months. In general anti-HBx reactivities appeared to be s…
Somatic loss of an EXT2 gene mutation during malignant progression in a patient with hereditary multiple osteochondromas
2015
Multiple osteochondromas (MO) is an autosomal-dominant skeletal disorder caused by mutations in the exostosin-1 ( EXT1 ) or exostosin-2 ( EXT2 ) genes. In this study, we report the analysis of the mutational status of the EXT2 gene in tumor samples derived from a patient affected by hereditary MO, documenting the somatic loss of the germline mutation in a giant chondrosarcoma and in a rapidly growing osteochondroma. The sequencing of all exons and exon–intron junctions of the EXT1 and EXT2 genes from blood DNA of the proband did not reveal any mutation in the EXT1 gene but did demonstrate the presence of the transition point mutation c.67C > T in the EXT2 gene, determining the introduction …
Human nasoseptal chondrocytes maintain their differentiated phenotype on PLLA scaffolds produced by thermally induced phase separation and supplement…
2018
Damage of hyaline cartilage such as nasoseptal cartilage requires proper reconstruction, which remains challenging due to its low intrinsic repair capacity. Implantation of autologous chondrocytes in combination with a biomimetic biomaterial represents a promising strategy to support cartilage repair. Despite so far mostly tested for bone tissue engineering, bioactive glass (BG) could exert stimulatory effects on chondrogenesis. The aim of this work was to produce and characterize composite porous poly(L-lactide) (PLLA)/1393BG scaffolds via thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) technique and assess their effects on chondrogenesis of nasoseptal chondrocytes. The PLLA scaffolds without or…
