Six Sessions of Sprint Interval Training Improves Running Performance in Trained Athletes

2017

Abstract Koral, J, Oranchuk, DJ, Herrera, R, and Millet, GY. Six sessions of sprint interval training improves running performance in trained athletes. J Strength Cond Res 32(3): 617–623, 2018—Sprint interval training (SIT) is gaining popularity with endurance athletes. Various studies have shown that SIT allows for similar or greater endurance, strength, and power performance improvements than traditional endurance training but demands less time and volume. One of the main limitations in SIT research is that most studies were performed in a laboratory using expensive treadmills or ergometers. The aim of this study was to assess the performance effects of a novel short-term and highly acces…

Increasing physical activity through an Internet-based motivational intervention supported by pedometers in a sample of sedentary students: A randomi…

2017

The aim of this study was to analyse the effect of an Internet-based motivational intervention (IMI) supported by pedometers (in comparison with IMI alone and non-intervention) on increasing daily steps and changing constructs related to physical activity (PA) in a sample of sedentary students.A randomised-controlled trial was conducted with 76 sedentary or low-active college students. The purpose of the IMI was to deliver information to increase motivation and set individualised PA goals. It involved a 3-week intervention and a 3-months follow-up.Objective measures were used to measure daily steps, and self-report questionnaires to assess different constructs related to PA.Results revealed…

Sensory strategies of postural sway during quiet stance in patients with haemophilic arthropathy.

2017

Introduction: The sensory strategies of postural control in adult haemophilic arthropathy patients are still poorly understood. Aim: To determine sensorial posture-control strategies through postural sway frequency analysis when in a bipedal quiet stance with and without visual stimulus deprivation in healthy subjects and patients with haemophilic arthropathy. Secondarily, to determine the irregularity of postural balance control through sample entropy (SampEn). Methods: A triaxial accelerometer attached at the L3 level determined the displacement and acceleration of the centre of mass (DCoM and ACoM, respectively) under open-and closed-eyes conditions. Sensorial strategies were studied by …

Adaptation and validation of the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 to evaluate major depression in a primary care sample in Latvia

2017

Background: Depression is one of the most common mental disorders in primary care settings and is often underdiagnosed and undertreated by general practitioners (GPs). To date, no depression screening instruments have been validated for use in primary care settings in Latvia. The aim of this study was to establish the validity and cutoff score of the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) among primary care patients in Latvia. Materials and methods: During a one-week period, all consecutive patients aged 18 years or older visiting their GP of health concerns at 6 primary care settings were invited to complete the PHQ-9 questionnaire in their native language (Latvian or Russian). Criterion v…

Confirmatory factor analysis and psychometric properties of the Yale–Brown–Cornell Eating Disorders Scale Self-Report version (SR-YBC-EDS) in Spanish…

2015

[EN] Objective: The aimof the study was to adapt and validate the Yale Brown Cornell Eating Disorder Scale (YBC-EDS) transformed into a self-report format in Spanish clinical and non-clinical samples. Method: Eighty-three eating disordered patients and 358 non-clinical participants completed the Self Report-YBCEDS version (SR-YBC-EDS), the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT), and the Penn State Worry Questionnaire (PSWQ). Results: Confirmatory factor analyses of a two-factor second-order model showed adequate values of goodness-of fit indices for non-clinical (normed ÷2=13.4578; df=18; NFI=0.980; GFI=1.00; RMSEA= 0.00) and clinical samples (normed ÷2 = 26.5913; df =18; NFI = 0.944; GFI = 0.981; RMS…

Cross-cultural adaptation of the orthognathic quality of life questionnaire (OQLQ) in a Brazilian sample of patients with dentofacial deformities

2010

Objectives: The aim of this study is to translate into Portuguese-Brazilian language and adapt cross-culturally to the Brazilian population the Orthognathic Quality of Life Questionnaire (OQLQ). Study Design: The cross-cultural adaptation process followed six stages which are; (I) initial translation, (II) synthesis of the translation, (III) back translation, (IV) expert committee and (V) test of the prefinal version. For validation process, the OQLQ results were compared with Oral Health Impact Profile Questionnaire (OHIP-49), with the generic SF-36 Quality of Life Questionnaire and a visual analogue scale. A convenience sample of 25 patients was selected in two Southern Brazilian states o…

Changes in Daily Steps and Body Mass Index and Waist to Height Ratio during Four Year Follow-Up in Adults: Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study

2017

Aims: Over the study years, there was a significant increase in body mass index (BMI) and waist-to-height ratio (WtHR) in middle aged Finnish adults. Methods: Data were obtained from 1033 Finnish adults from the Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study in 2007 and 2011. Cohort study participants wore an Omron Walking Style One (HJ-152R-E) pedometer for five days and were grouped into those who increased, maintained and decreased their steps between 2007 and 2011. Paired samples t-test was used to compare body mass index (BMI) and waist-to-height ratio (WtHR) change values between the change groups in study years. Results: Among study population BMI and WtHR increase between study years was …

Prospective randomized comparison of short-access mother-baby cholangioscopy versus direct cholangioscopy with ultraslim gastroscopes

2012

Mother-baby technologies, the criterion standard for cholangioscopy, have several limitations. A novel, short-access, mother-baby (SAMBA) system may improve this technique. Direct cholangioscopy (DC) was recently developed as an alternative to mother-baby cholangioscopy.Comparison of success rates with SAMBA and DC.Single-center, randomized, controlled trial.Academic tertiary-care referral center.Sixty patients with suspected cholangiopathies randomized to either SAMBA (n = 30) or DC (n = 30).Cholangioscopy under deep sedation.Technical success rate of diagnostic or therapeutic procedure.A total of 24 and 21 diagnostic procedures were performed in the SAMBA and DC groups, respectively. Duration of euthymia and predominant polarity in bipolar disorder.

2018

The concept of Predominant Polarity (PP) provides relevant information for clinical practice and has been widely described as course specifier for Bipolar Disorder (BD), however it has not been incorporated in DSM-5 yet. A descriptive study was conducted to identify clinical patterns associated with PP in outpatients attending a Mental Health Unit.Clinical and socio-demographic characteristics were assessed from a sample of 118 euthymic outpatients fulfilling DSM 5 criteria for BDI or II recruited at a catchment area. According to their PP, patients were divided into three subgroups: depressive (DPP; 39.0%), manic (MPP; 32.2%) or indeterminate (IPP; 28.8%). Subgroups of PP were compared reg…

Effectiveness of Dry Needling in the Management of Spasticity in Patients Post Stroke.

2020

Abstract Objective: To determine the effectiveness of the dry needling technique (DNT) in the treatment of spasticity for individuals with stroke. Design: We reviewed the Embase, Pubmed/MEDLINE, Web of Science and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) databases. We also performed a manual search of the references that are included in the selected articles. Studies included were: i) randomized clinical trials (RCTs); ii) involving patients with a diagnosis of stroke; and iii) using DNT alone or in a multimodal treatment. Muscular spasticity was the primary outcome of the study. The additional outcomes included were: pressure pain sensitivity, range of motion and perception…
