2022
Several regional syntheses have been published on Bronze Age solid-hilted swords, but none for France and the Benelux countries. This dissertation aims first at filling this gap by listing the swords from this region. By adding data from these pre-existing studies, it is possible to study the distribution of solid-hilted swords on a European scale. The building of an inventory is an essential condition to study the diffusion of these weapons over long distances. This must come along with models to characterise the organisation of the swords production and the ways they spread out. It requires us to question the status of the craftsmen, their organisation and their location. One of the first…
EURECCA colorectal: multidisciplinary management: European consensus conference colon & rectum.
2014
Contains fulltext : 137861.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) BACKGROUND: Care for patients with colon and rectal cancer has improved in the last 20years; however considerable variation still exists in cancer management and outcome between European countries. Large variation is also apparent between national guidelines and patterns of cancer care in Europe. Therefore, EURECCA, which is the acronym of European Registration of Cancer Care, is aiming at defining core treatment strategies and developing a European audit structure in order to improve the quality of care for all patients with colon and rectal cancer. In December 2012, the first multidisciplinary consensus conference about…
Organizational dissent and workplace freedom of speech : a qualitative study of young professional intra-urban migrant workers in Shanghai
2014
Chinese economy reform triggered the largest domestic labor migration in human history. These 150 million migrant workers are treated as second-rate citizens in urban cities because of the discriminatory household registration system: Hukou. Previous studies have predominantly focused on blue-collar migrants while the professional workers, the potential permanent city dwellers, received little attention. This study attempts to fill this gap by exploring the perception of workplace freedom and preference of dissent strategy among professional migrant workers in Shanghai. Eight young and well-educated migrants participated in this study through semi-structured online interviews. This study no…
Noticing-prefaced recoveries of the interactional space in a video-mediated business meeting
2020
Drawing on conversation analysis and authentic data from a video-mediated multiparty meeting, this study investigates the sequential and temporal organisation of recoveries of the interactional space. It focuses on moments in which either an auditory or a visual barrier emerges, and the participants orient to these troubles through intensified bodily-visual displays: embodied noticings. The analysis illustrates noticing-prefaced recoveries of the interactional space as procedural and multimodal accomplishments that require close attentiveness to the co-participants’ verbal and visual conduct and to the contingencies of the meeting. The study highlights not only the affordances of video-medi…
The healing from another paradigm: neoshamanisms and its global emergency in the Spanish case
2021
Adaptive Service Offloading for Revenue Maximization in Mobile Edge Computing With Delay-Constraint
2019
Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) is an important and effective platform to offload the computational services of modern mobile applications, and has gained tremendous attention from various research communities. For delay and resource constrained mobile devices, the important issues include: 1) minimization of the service latency; 2) optimal revenue maximization; 3) high quality-of-service (QoS) requirement to offload the computational service offloading. To address the above issues, an adaptive service offloading scheme is designed to provide the maximum revenue and service utilization to MEC. Unlike most of the existing works, we consider both the delay-tolerant and delay-constraint services i…
Too many passwords? : How understanding our memory can increase password memorability
2018
Passwords are the most common authentication mechanism, that are only increasing with time. Previous research suggests that users cannot remember multiple passwords. Therefore, users adopt insecure password practices, such as password reuse in response to their perceived memory limitations. The critical question not currently examined is whether users’ memory capabilities for password recall are actually related to having a poor memory. This issue is imperative: if insecure password practices result from having a poor memory, then future password research and practice should focus on increasing the memorability of passwords. If, on the other hand, the problem is not solely related to memory…
Improving Password Memorability, While Not Inconveniencing the User
2019
Passwords are the most frequently used authentication mechanism. However, due to increased password numbers, there has been an increase in insecure password behaviors (e.g., password reuse). Therefore, new and innovative ways are needed to increase password memorability and security. Typically, users are asked to input their passwords once in order to access the system, and twice to verify the password, when they create a new account. But what if users were asked to input their passwords three or four times when they create new accounts? In this study, three groups of participants were asked to verify their passwords once (control group), twice, and three times (two experimental groups). Ps…
