Swimming performances in long distance open-water events with and without wetsuit.

2013

International audience; BACKGROUND: Existing literature showed improved swimming performances for swimmers wearing wetsuits competing under standardized conditions in races held in pools on short to middle distances. Data about the influence of wetsuits on swimming performances in long and ultra-long open-water swimming races are missing. It is unknown whether the benefit of wearing wetsuits is comparable in men and women. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of wearing a wetsuit on open-water swimming performances at the 26.4 km 'Marathon Swim in Lake Zurich' in Lake Zurich, Switzerland, and the 3.8 km Lake Ontario Swim Team-Race (LOST-Race) in Lake Ontario, Canada. METHO…

How do age and social environment affect the dynamics of death hazard and survival in patients with breast or gynecological cancer in France?

2021

Several studies have investigated the association between net survival and social inequalities in people with cancer, highlighting a varying influence of deprivation depending on the type of cancer studied. However, few of these studies have accounted for the effect of social inequalities over the follow-up period, and/or according to the age of the patients. Thus, using recent and more relevant statistical models, we investigated the effect of social environment on net survival in women with breast or gynecological cancer in France. The data were derived from population-based cancer registries, and women diagnosed with breast or gynecological cancer between 2006 and 2009 were included. We …

Associations in physical activity and sedentary behaviour among the immigrant and non-immigrant US population

2020

BackgroundImmigrants are at a higher risk of poor mental and physical health. Regular participation in physical activity (PA) and low levels of sedentary time are beneficial for both these aspects of health. The aim was to investigate levels and trends in domain-specific PA and sedentary behaviour in the US. immigrant compared with non-immigrant populations.MethodsFrom the 2007–2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), a total of 25 142 adults (≥18 years) were included in this analysis. PA and sedentary behaviour time were assessed by a questionnaire.ResultsTransit-related PA showed downward linear trends in young immigrant adults (ptrend=0.006) and middle-aged non-imm…

Identification of resources and skills developed by partners of patients with advanced colon cancer: a qualitative study

2018

2016

International audience; BACKGROUND:The classification of hematological malignancies (HMs) has changed in recent decades. For the first time, the French network of cancer registries (Francim) provides estimates for incidence and trends of HM in France between 1980 and 2012 for major HM subtypes.METHODS:Incidence was directly estimated by modeling the incidence rates measured in the cancer registry area. For each HM subtype, a "usable incidence period" was defined a priori, corresponding to the years for which all the registries collected them in a homogeneous way. For both sexes and each HM subtype, age-period-cohort models were used to estimate national incidence trends.RESULTS:Overall in F…
