Performance assessment of PPP surveys with open source software using the GNSS GPS-GLONASS-Galileo constellations

2020

In this work, the performance of the multi-GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) Precise Point Positioning (PPP) technique, in static mode, is analyzed. Specifically, GPS (Global Positioning System), GLONASS, and Galileo systems are considered, and quantifying the Galileo contribution is one of the main objectives. The open source software RTKLib is adopted to process the data, with precise satellite orbits and clocks from CNES (Centre National d&rsquo

APPLICATION OF UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLES FOR GLACIER RESEARCH IN THE ARCTIC AND ANTARCTIC

2019

Unmanned aerial vehicles or drones are nowadays widely used in a broad field of scientific and commercial applications. Despite this, it is quite a new method for glacier mapping in polar regions and has a lot of advantages, as well as disadvantages over more classical remote sensing instruments. Here we examine the main issues associated with the application of drones for glacier research from our experience in Iceland, Greenland and the Antarctic. We use DJI Phantom series drones for the obtaining of aerial photographs and produce digital surface models (resolution of 8 – 16 cm) and orthomosaics (resolution of 2 – 4 cm) for glacier mapping. Several issues related to the ground control poi…

AES/FPGA Encryption Module Integration for Satellite Remote Sensing Systems: LST-SW case

2020

Satellite remote sensing embedded systems need to be secure to protect data transmission between satellites and the ground station for any threat can affects the hardware of satellite and interception of data, in addition to unauthorized access to satellite system. This research proposes an approach for a secure integration of FPGA Encryption module based on the iterative looping architecture for remote sensing algorithm and especially for the LST-SW algorithm. The target hardware used in this paper is Virtex-5 XC5VLX50T FPGA from Xilinx. Hardware Description Language was used to design the complete system. The analysis of the proposed designed shows that this implementation can achieved a …

INTEGRATED SURVEYNG WITH MOBILE MAPPING SYSTEM, EGNOS, NTRK AND LASER TECHNOLOGIES IN THE PARK "NINNI CASSARA" IN PALERMO

2018

Abstract. This article summarizes the experience gained between 2012 and 2013 by the department of "Civil Engineering, Environmental, Aerospace and Materials" of University of Palermo on the integrated survey of Ninni Park Cassara Park in Palermo and the subsequent testing of methods, tools and techniques based on current research regarding the acquisition and processing of GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) data and laser-scanner. A fruitful time dedicated to the design of the survey has allowed us to become aware of the critical issues that the site presents because of its vast extent and diversity in size and number of the elements of which it is composed. The work has been addres…

Bathymetry time series using high spatial resolution satellite images

2020

The use of the new generation of remote sensors, such as echo sounders and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers with differential correction installed in a drone, allows the acquisition of high-precision data in areas of shallow water, as in the case of the channel of the Encañizadas in the Mar Menor lagoon. This high precision information is the first step to develop the methodology to monitor the bathymetry of the Mar Menor channels. The use of high spatial resolution satellite images is the solution for monitoring many hydrological changes and it is the basis of the three-dimensional (3D) numerical models used to study transport over time, environmental variability, and wa…
