Communicating Personal Goals: Consequences for Person Perception in the Work and Family Domains

Based on a set of three experimental studies (total N = 608), we examined how people appraise another person’s well-being and motivation in the work and family domains on the basis of knowledge of this other person’s goal system. Participants were introduced to the life situation of either a woman or a man belonging to a successful dual-career couple. This target person reported pursuing only work-related personal goals (work priority), only family-related personal goals (family priority) or both work- and family-related goals (balanced goal system). The aim of the present study conducted among 274 Finnish employees was to examine the relationships between job characteristics, recovery experiences and occupational well-being across 1 year. We hypothesized that these relationships would follow normal causation, that is, job characteristics at T1 predict recovery experiences (detachment, relaxation, mastery and control at off-job time) and well-being (fatigue at work and work engagement) at T2, and recovery experiences at T1 predict well-being at T2. Por un lado, se buscó explorar las concepciones que tienen personas con personal a cargo sobre el work engagement mediante entrevistas realizadas a 38 voluntarios de la población general de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires y el conurbano bonaerense (18 hombres, 47.37%; 20 mujeres, 52.63%). The present study examined work-family conflict and enrichment and perceived health (stress symptoms, life satisfaction) according to the following family types: 1 = two-parent families with 1–2 children, 2 = two-parent families with 3 or more children, 3 = single-parent families with 1 or more children, 4 = childless co-habiting/married couples. Recommendation systems are becoming a state of the art for web-based systems as they produce additional product exposure and customer satisfaction. The Semantic Web and mashups can improve recommendation systems and provide new ways for their creation. In the web it is possible to analyze product descriptions and to use Linked Data for characterizing the similarity of objects or of objects and user interests. In this chapter, we give a brief overview of existing technical approaches and tools for creating recommendation systems that can be used to create mashups as recommendation systems.
User-oriented evaluation of mechanical single-channel axial pipettes.

Hand tools should be designed so that they are comfortable to use, fit the hand and are user-oriented. Six different manual, single-channel axial pipettes were evaluated for such objective outcomes as muscular activity, wrist postures and efficiency, as well as for subjective outcomes concerning self-assessed features of pipette usability and musculoskeletal strain. Ten experienced laboratory employees volunteered for the study. The results showed that light and short pipettes with better tool comfort resulted in reduced muscular activity and perceived musculoskeletal strain when they were compared with a long and heavy pipette.
