Involvement of Lipoxygenase-dependent Production of Fatty Acid Hydroperoxides in the Development of the Hypersensitive Cell Death induced by Cryptoge…
1999
Lipid peroxidation was investigated in relation with the hypersensitive reaction in cryptogein-elicited tobacco leaves. A massive production of free polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) hydroperoxides dependent on a 9-lipoxygenase (LOX) activity was characterized during the development of leaf necrosis. The process occurred after a lag phase of 12 h, was accompanied by the concomitant increase of 9-LOX activity, and preceded by a transient accumulation of LOX transcripts. Free radical-mediated lipid peroxidation represented 10% of the process. Inhibition and activation of the LOX pathway was shown to inhibit or to activate cell death, and evidence was provided that fatty acid hydroperoxides ar…
A comparison between the single ring pressure infiltrometer and simplified falling head techniques
2013
Testing the relative performances of the single ring pressure infiltrometer (PI) and simplified falling head (SFH) techniques to determine the field saturated soil hydraulic conductivity, Kfs, at the near point scale may help to better establish the usability of these techniques for interpreting and simulating hydrological processes. A sampling of 10 Sicilian sites showed that the measured Kfs was generally higher with the SFH technique than the PI one, with statistically significant differences by a factor varying from 3 to 192, depending on the site. A short experiment with the SFH technique yielded higher Kfs values because a longer experiment with the PI probably promoted short-term swe…

Relationship between rat liver microsomal Δ6 and Δ5 desaturase activities and fatty acid composition: comparative effects of coconut and salmon oils …
1992
International audience; The aim of this work was to compare the effects of coconut and salmon oils on rat liver microsomal Δ6 and Δ5 desaturations, during protein restriction. A higher Δ6 desaturase activity was noted in rats fed the low-protein coconut oil diet, in comparison with that occurring in rats fed either a low-protein or normal-protein salmon oil diet. No variation was observed in Δ5 desaturase activity or in 20:4n-6/ 18:2n-6 ratio. The fatty acid composition of liver microsomal phospholipids provided evidence of higher levels of 20:5n-3 and 22:6n-3 in the normal-protein salmon oil group, when compared with the low-protein salmon oil group. No influence of experimental diets on t…
Effect of 18:3 n-3 geometrical isomers of heated linseed oll on the biosynthesis of arachidonic acid in rat
1990
Abstract The influence of dietary heated linseed oil on the fatty acid composition of rat liver, platelet and plasma phospholipids (PL) with particular reference to the metabolism of linoleic acid (18:2 n-6) were studied. Δ6 and Δ5 desaturase activities and fatty acid composition of hepatic microsomal total lipids (TL) also were determined. Two groups of male weanling rats were fed, for 6 weeks, diets containing 10% (in weight) of a fresh linseed oil (LO group) and of a heated linseed oil (HLO group). The contents of geometrical isomers of linolenic acid (18:3 n-3) were high in the oil heated at 240°C for 10 hours. The pattern of arachidonic acid (20:4 n-6) in the different lipid fractions …
Identification by GC-FID and GC-MS of amino acids, fatty and bile acids in binding media used in works of art.
2001
GC-FID was used as single methodology for the identification and differentiation of proteins, lipids and ox bile from binders used in artistic paintings. The samples were hydrolyzed by HCl. Subsequently, the simultaneous formation of volatile derivatives of the amino, fatty and bile acids with ethyl chloroformate was performed quickly and safely in an aqueous medium. The derivatives were separated by capillary GC and characterized by GC-MS. The ageing of drying oils was studied, identifying pelargonic acid among other degradation products. Proteinaceous and lipoid binding media were characterized by means of the quotients between the areas of the peaks for each amino or fatty acid with resp…
Role of dioxygenase α-DOX2 and SA in basal response and in hexanoic acid-induced resistance of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) plants against Botrytis …
2015
Resistance of tomato (Solanum Lycopersicum) to the fungal pathogen Botrytis cinerea requires complex interplay between hormonal signalling. In this study, we explored the involvement of new oxylipins in the tomato basal and induced response to this necrotroph through the functional analysis of the tomato α-dioxygenase2 (α-DOX2)-deficient mutant divaricata. We also investigated the role of SA in the defence response against this necrotrophic fungus using SA-deficient tomato nahG plants. The plants lacking dioxigenase α-DOX2, which catalyses oxylipins production from fatty acids, were more susceptible to Botrytis, and hexanoic acid-induced resistance (Hx-IR) was impaired; hence α-DOX2 is requ…
Reduction of saturated fat in chocolate by using sunflower oil-hydroxypropyl methylcellulose based oleogels
2021
The suitability of sunflower oil-hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) based oleogel obtained by emulsion template approach as partial cocoa butter (CB) replacer in chocolates was investigated. A level of 50% CB replacement was optimum, as higher level of replacement affected the sensory appearance in comparison to the control chocolate (without added oleogel). Four levels of HPMC (0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2%) were considered. Textural and calorimetric properties, as well as sensory properties obtained by Free Choice Profile of the formulated chocolates were investigated. Partial replacement of CB by the sunflower-HPMC based oleogel reduced significantly the chocolate hardness. Higher HPMC concentrat…
New 2-Methoxy Acetylenic Acids and Pyrazole Alkaloids from the Marine Sponge Cinachyrella sp.
2017
Three new 2-methoxy acetylenic acids (1–3) and a known derivative (4), in addition to three new natural pyrazole alkaloids (5–7) were isolated from an Indonesian marine sponge of the genus Cinachyrella. Compounds 5 and 6 have previously been reported as synthetic compounds. The structures of the new compounds were established on the basis of one- and two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy as well as by mass spectrometric data. The absolute configuration of the new acetylenic acid derivatives (1–3) was established by ECD spectroscopy. All isolated compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxicity against L5178Y mouse lymphoma cells. Compounds 1–4 exhibited strong activity with an IC50 value of 0.3 µ…
