Probiotics as a Dietary Intervention for Reducing the Risk of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease
2019
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is characterized by an increase in triglyceride fat content of liver cells without excessive consumption of alcohol. It is the most predominant liver disease among different age groups including children and adults. Unhealthy foods such as high fructose and high trans-fatty acids in saturated fat seem to be associated with the pathogenesis of NAFLD. Different clusters of gut microbiota, e.g., Firmicutes, could regulate the energy balance and fat storage. Furthermore, different metabolites of gut microbiota, for example, endogenous short chain fatty acids and ethanol, are associated with increased levels of lipogenesis. Additionally, metabolism of end…
The oxygen status of arterial human blood
1990
The oxygen status of arterial human blood is described at least by four variables: Oxygen partial pressure (pO2, mmHg), oxygen saturation (sO2, %), hemoglobin content (cHb, g/dL) and oxygen content (cO2, mL/dL). Beside perfusion, however, the oxygen supply of all organs is decisively determined by the mean capillary pO2 which itself is primarily dependent on the arterial cO2. Therefore, the oxygen availability (cardiac output x caO2, mL/min) may be described by the cO2 value in arterial blood or those variables who determine the latter one. The diagnostic significance of the O2 variables of the oxygen status consequently increases in the order of pO2, sO2 (cHb) and cO2. In arterial blood, o…
Observer-based H∞ control on stochastic nonlinear systems with time-delay and actuator nonlinearity
2013
Abstract In this paper, an observer-based H ∞ controller is designed for a class of extended Markov jump systems subject to time-delay and actuator saturation nonlinearity. Gradient linearization procedure is employed to describe such nonlinear systems by several linear Markov jump systems. Next, a mode-dependent Lyapunov function is constructed for these linear systems, and a sufficient condition is derived to make them stochastically stable, and then, a continuous gain-scheduled approach is applied to design a continuous nonlinear observer-based controller on the entire extended nonlinear jump system. A simulation example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of developed techniques.
A nonlinear observer for rotor flux estimation considering magnetic saturation effects in induction motor drives
2015
This paper proposes a non-linear observer for In- duction Machine (IM) drives which takes into consideration the saturation effects. The non-linear observer is based on an original formulation of the dynamic model of the IM taking into consideration the magnetic saturation of the iron core. A Lyapunov based convergence analysis is proposed in order to suitably compute the observer gain guaranteeing the stability of the observer. The proposed non-linear observer has been tested in numerical simulation and experimentally on a suitably developed test set-up. Its behaviour has been compared to that obtained with a classic Full-Order Luenberger Observer (FOLO) in variable flux working conditions…
A Nonlinear Observer for Rotor Flux Estimation of Induction Motor Considering the Estimated Magnetization Characteristic
2017
This paper proposes a nonlinear observer for induction machine drives based on space-vector dynamic model of induction machine, expressed in state form, which presents the peculiarity of taking into consideration the magnetic saturation of the iron core. This observer is particularly suitable in order to obtain high accuracy in rotor flux estimation, in both amplitude and phase position, during working conditions characterized by varying flux, among which the most important are those during electrical losses minimization. A Lyapunov-based convergence analysis is proposed in order to suitably compute the numerical observer gain guaranteeing the convergence of the estimation error. The propos…
Saturation of a spin-1/2 particle by generalized local control
2011
We show how to apply a generalization of Local control design to the problem of saturation of a spin 1/2 particle by magnetic fields in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. The generalization of local or Lyapunov control arises from the fact that the derivative of the Lyapunov function does not depend explicitly on the control field. The second derivative is used to determine the local control field. We compare the efficiency of this approach with respect to the time-optimal solution which has been recently derived using geometric methods.
Thapsigargin-stimulated MAP kinase phosphorylation via CRAC channels and PLD activation: inhibitory action of docosahexaenoic acid.
2004
AbstractThis study was conducted on human Jurkat T-cells to investigate the role of depletion of intracellular Ca2+ stores in the phosphorylation of two mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs), i.e. extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) 1 and ERK2, and their modulation by a polyunsaturated fatty acid, docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). We observed that thapsigargin (TG) stimulated MAPK activation by store-operated calcium (SOC) influx via opening of calcium release-activated calcium (CRAC) channels as tyrphostin-A9, a CRAC channel blocker, and two SOC influx inhibitors, econazole and SKF-96365, diminished the action of the former. TG-stimulated ERK1/ERK2 phosphorylation was also diminished…
Fish and human health: an umbrella review of observational studies
2022
Fish represents one of the most important dietary sources of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are known to be associated with various health benefits. This study aimed to systematically review existing meta-analyses of observational studies exploring the association between fish intake and various health outcomes. A systematic search of electronic databases was conducted to retrieve a total of 63 studies. Evidence was deemed as possible for the association between higher fish intake and decreased risk of the acute coronary syndrome, liver cancer, and depression, and limited for other outcomes (including age-related macular degeneration, Alzheimer’s disease, heart failure, all-caus…
Modulation of the hepatic fatty acid pool in peroxisomal 3-ketoacyl-CoA thiolase B-null mice exposed to the selective PPARalpha agonist Wy14,643
2009
10 pages; International audience; The peroxisomal 3-ketoacyl-CoA thiolase B (Thb) gene was previously identified as a direct target gene of PPARalpha, a nuclear hormone receptor activated by hypolipidemic fibrate drugs. To better understand the role of ThB in hepatic lipid metabolism in mice, Sv129 wild-type and Thb null mice were fed or not the selective PPARalpha agonist Wy14,643 (Wy). Here, it is shown that in contrast to some other mouse models deficient for peroxisomal enzymes, the hepatic PPARalpha signaling cascade in Thb null mice was normal under regular conditions. It is of interest that the hypotriglyceridemic action of Wy was reduced in Thb null mice underlining the conclusion t…
Comparison of line-by-line and band models of near-IR methane absorption applied to outer planet atmospheres
2012
Import OPTIWOS; International audience; Recent improvements in high spectral resolution measurements of methane absorption at wavenumbers between 4800 cm(-1) and 7919 cm(-1) have greatly increased the number of lines with known lower state energies, the number of weak lines, and the number of lines observed at low temperatures (Campargue, A., Wang, L, Kassi, S., Masat, M., Votava, O.
