Net analyte signal as a deconvolution-oriented resolution criterion in the optimisation of chromatographic techniques

2003

The performance of two multivariate calibration measurements, multivariate selectivity (SEL(s)) and scalar net analyte signal (scalar NAS), as chromatographic objective functions (COFs), was investigated. Since both assessments are straightforwardly related to the quantification of analytes in the presence of interferents, they were expected to confer new features in the optimisation of compound resolution, not present in conventional assessments. These capabilities are especially interesting in situations of low resolution, where peak deconvolution becomes an attractive alternative. For comparison purposes, chromatographic resolution (R(s)) and peak purity (p(s)) were used as reference COF…

Rethinking Civil Society in Development: Scales and Situated Hegemonies

2016

Ethnic residential segregation is often explained with the claim that ‘immigrants don’t want to integrate—they prefer to stick together with co-ethnics’. By contrast, mixed neighbourhoods are seen as crucial for achieving social cohesion. In line with spatial assimilation theory there is a normative assumption that people interact with those living nearby. From interviews on neighbourhood qualities and locations valued by Oslo residents of Turkish, Somali and Polish backgrounds, we raise questions about the validity of two assumptions: that most immigrants want to live in the same neighbourhoods as co-ethnics; and that they want to live close to co-ethnics because they do not want to integr…

Comparative analysis of architectures for monitoring cloud computing infrastructures

2015

The lack of control over the cloud resources is one of the main disadvantages associated to cloud computing. The design of efficient architectures for monitoring such resources can help to overcome this problem. This contribution describes a complete set of architectures for monitoring cloud computing infrastructures, and provides a taxonomy of them. The architectures are described in detail, compared among them, and analysed in terms of performance, scalability, usage of resources, and security capabilities. The architectures have been implemented in real world settings and empirically validated against a real cloud computing infrastructure based on OpenStack. More than 1000 virtual machin…

Autonomic Brokerage Service for an End-to-End Cloud Networking Service Level Agreement

2014

8 pages; International audience; Today, cloud networking which is the ability to connect the user with his cloud services and to interconnect these services within an inter-cloud approach, is one of the recent research areas in the cloud computing research communities. The main drawback of cloud networking consists in the lack of Quality of Service (QoS) assurance and management in conformance with a corresponding Service Level Agreement (SLA). In this paper, we propose a framework for self-establishing an end-to-end service level agreement between a Cloud Service User (CSU) and multiple Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) in a cloud networking environment using brokerage service. We focus on Qo…

Role of Data Communications in Hybrid Cloud Costs

2011

Rapid adoption of cloud services in recent years has been driven by multiple factors, such as faster time-to-market and improved scalability enabled by public cloud infrastructure. Hybrid clouds, combining the in-house capacities with on-demand capacity of public clouds, achieve both the increased utilization rate of the in-house infrastructure and the limited use of more expensive public cloud, thereby lowering the total costs for the cloud user. In this paper, an analytical model of hybrid cloud costs is introduced, wherein the costs of computing and data communication are taken into account. Using this model, the costefficient division of the computing capacity between the private and th…

Comparing the relative volume with a revolution manifold as a model

1993

Given a pair (P, M), whereM is ann-dimensional connected compact Riemannian manifold andP is a connected compact hypersurface ofM, the relative volume of (P, M) is the quotient volume(P)/volume(M). In this paper we give a comparison theorem for the relative volume of such a pair, with some bounds on the Ricci curvature ofM and the mean curvature ofP, with respect to that of a model pair\(\left( {\mathcal{P},\mathcal{M}} \right)\) where ℳ is a revolution manifold and\(\mathcal{P}\) a “parallel” of ℳ.

Nonlinear quasi-contractions of Ciric type

2012

In this paper we obtain points of coincidence and common fixed points for two self mappings satisfying a nonlinear contractive condition of Ciric type. As application, using the scalarization method of Du, we deduce a result of common fixed point in cone metric spaces.
