Dynamics of a subconstituent picture of weak interactions

We use sum rules in order to discuss the dynamics of the simplest subconstituent model of weak interactions with elementary spin 1/2 fermions and scalar bosons. Vacuum condensates of the scalars play an essential role and lead to features quite different from QCD. With a certain vacuum structure vector dominance of the composite W-mesons is a good approximation, and we also see a clear signal for massless fermions in the two-point function of composite fermions. Thus such a model is in good agreement with standard phenomenology. Composite Higgs particles are also investigated. The effective interaction is evidently of the gauge type.

The sedimentation of a polydisperse suspension with particles belonging to N size classes (species) can be described by a system of N nonlinear, strongly coupled scalar first-order conservation laws. Adaptive mesh reconstruction for hyperbolic conservation laws with total variation bound

We consider 3-point numerical schemes, that resolve scalar conservation laws, that are oscillatory either to their dispersive or anti-diffusive nature. The spatial discretization is performed over non-uniform adaptively redefined meshes. We provide a model for studying the evolution of the extremes of the oscillations. We prove that proper mesh reconstruction is able to control the oscillations; we provide bounds for the Total Variation (TV) of the numerical solution. Computation of travelling wave solutions of scalar conservation laws with a stiff source term

Abstract In this paper we propose a nonoscillatory numerical technique to compute the travelling wave solution of scalar conservation laws with a stiff source term. This procedure is based on the dynamical behavior described by the associated stationary ODE and it reduces/avoids numerical errors usually encountered with these problems, i.e., spurious oscillations and incorrect wave propagation speed. This paper addresses the problem of supervised classification of remote sensing images in the presence of incomplete (nonexhaustive) training sets. The problem is analyzed according to two different perspectives: 1) description and recognition of a specific land-cover class by using single-class classifiers and 2) solution of multiclass problems with single-class classification techniques. The objective of this work is to validate the Brief Resilient Coping Scale (Sinclair & Wallston, 2004), a four item likert scale, in the Spanish elderly. How quickly do children and adults interpret scalar lexical items in speech processing? The current study examined interpretation of the scalar terms some vs. all in contexts where either the stronger (some = not all) or the weaker interpretation was permissible (some allows all). Children and adults showed increased negative deflections in brain activity following the word some in some-infelicitous versus some-felicitous contexts. This effect was found as early as 100 ms across central electrode sites (in children), and 300–500 ms across left frontal, fronto-central, and centro-parietal electrode sites (in children and adults).
