Le misure di portate defluenti in un corso d’acqua sono solitamente affette da Incertezza dovuta ad una serie di cause concorrenti che influenza fortemente la risposta dei modelli afflussi-deflussi. Nella presente memoria viene analizzata l’influenza dell’incertezza relativa alla scala di deflusso sulla modellazione della risposta idrologica di un bacino idrografico a scala giornaliera. Full scale tests of the base-isolation system for an emergency hospital

The paper presents the results of some full-scale tests regarding the base-isolation system of the emergency room building of the polyclinic hospital in Palermo (Italy). This building has been recently realized and its base isolation system is characterized by double friction pendulum isolators. Static lateral pushing tests were aimed at identifying fundamental mechanical properties of the whole isolation level (e.g. friction forces and stiffness) in order to verify the agreement with the design hypotheses. Le scale in Sicilia possiedono una storia millenaria. Precoci sono anche gli esempi dove un elemento di stretta natura funzionale acquista prerogative simboliche. La ricostruzione dell'abside in alcuni esempi della seconda metà del XVI secolo a Palermo

Il contributo ha l’obiettivo di studiare alcuni casi di ricostruzione dell’abside eseguiti in edifici chiesastici palermitani nella seconda metà del XVI secolo. Si tratta delle chiese di San Sebastiano, San Francesco d’Assisi e San Martino delle Scale (all’interno dell’omonima abbazia), in cui, nella seconda metà del Cinquecento, per motivi liturgici, l’abside originaria viene “trasformata”, in un’abside “piatta”, al fine di potervi inserire il Coro ligneo. A MULTI-LAYER MODEL TO STUDY GENOME-SCALE POSITIONS OF NUCLEOSOMES

The positioning of nucleosomes along chromatin has been implicated in the regulation of gene expression in eukaryotic cells, because packaging DNA into nucleosomes affects sequence accessibility. In this paper we propose a new model (called MLM) for the identification of nucleosomes and linker regions across DNA, consisting in a thresholding technique based on cut-set conditions. For this purpose we have defined a method to generate synthetic microarray data fully inspired from the approach that has been used by Yuan et al. Image Segmentation based on Genetic Algorithms Combination

The paper describes a new image segmentation algorithm called Combined Genetic segmentation which is based on a genetic algorithm. Here, the segmentation is considered as a clustering of pixels and a similarity function based on spatial and intensity pixel features is used. The proposed methodology starts from the assumption that an image segmentation problem can be treated as a Global Optimization Problem. The results of the image segmentations algorithm has been compared with recent existing techniques. Several experiments, performed on real images, show good performances of our approach compared to other existing methods.

Improving Harris corner selection strategy

This study describes a corner selection strategy based on the Harris approach. Corners are usually defined as interest points for which intensity variation in the principal directions is locally maximised, as response from a filter given by the linear combination of the determinant and the trace of the autocorrelation matrix. The Harris corner detector, in its original definition, is only rotationally invariant, but scale-invariant and affine-covariant extensions have been developed. Fostering the energy efficiency through the energy savings: The case of the University of Palermo

This paper reports the strategy implemented by the Palermo University (Italy) aimed at fostering the energy performance of its campus, particularly towards financing energy saving measures. The basic idea is that the money saved through the energy efficiency actions, constitute the main flywheel to fund further savings and energy efficiency interventions. Results of this paper might bring a useful contribution to the energy planning of cities, since campuses may be regarded as emblematic case study of what can be done in cities because they reproduce, at a little scale, the functioning of wider urban contexts.
