Trapping and Immobilization of DNA Molecules Between Nanoelectrodes
2011
DNA is one of the most promising molecules for nanoscale bottom-up fabrication. For both scientific studies and fabrication of devices, it is desirable to be able to manipulate DNA molecules, or self--assembled DNA constructions, at the single unit level. Efficient methods are needed for precisely attaching the single unit to the external measurement setup or the device structure. So far, this has often been too cumbersome to achieve, and consequently most of the scientific studies are based on a statistical analysis or measurements done for a sample containing numerous molecules in liquid or in a dry state. Here, we explain a method for trapping and attaching nanoscale double-stranded DNA …

Preparation and Recycling of Plasticized PLA
2010
Poly(lacticacid)(PLA)hasbeengainingarisinginterestoverthe last years as a biodegradable and environmental-friendly substitute of traditional non-biodegradable poly-mers.Several ways exist to synthesize PLA, however, poly-merization through lactide formation is the most used onindustrial scale, allowing to obtain optimum results interms of mechanical and thermal properties.
Atomic Force Microscopy: Interaction Forces Measured in Phospholipid Monolayers, Bilayers, and Cell Membranes
2009
Atomic force microscopy (AFM) is a powerful technique which is commonly used to image surfaces at the nanoscale and single-molecule level, as well as to investigate physical properties of the sample surface using a technique known as force spectroscopy. In this chapter, we review our recent research where we used AFM to investigate physical properties of phospholipid monolayers, bilayers, and cell membranes. We describe the experimental procedures for AFM imaging, force measurements, and theoretical models to analyze force spectroscopy data. The data obtained allowed correlations between AFM topography and local adhesion and mechanoelastic properties of supported lipid bilayers in water, su…
ChemInform Abstract: Elemental Bromine Production by TiO2Photocatalysis and/or Ozonation.
2016
Significant production of elemental bromine (Br2 ) was observed for the first time when treating bromide containing solutions at acidic pH, with TiO2 photocatalyst, ozone, or a combination thereof. Br2 selectivities up to approximately 85 % were obtained and the corresponding bromine mass balance values satisfied. The process is general and may be applied at a laboratory scale for green bromination reactions, or industrially as a cheap, safe, and environmentally sustainable alternative to the currently applied bromine production methods.

Triazolopyridines. Part 9. The synthesis of7-amino(1,2,3)triazolo(1,5-a)pyridines
1989
Abstract Regiospecific lithiation of (1,2,3) triazolo(1,5-a)pyridines (1) and (4) with subsequent reaction with styryl azide gave small yields of the 7-aminotriazolopyridines (6) and (7). A longer larger scale synthesis of compounds (6) and (7) is described giving overall yields of 17 and 25%, starting from 2-amino-6-methyl (9) or 2-amino-6-ethyl pyridine (19).
Microscopic and nanoscopic EVA composite investigation: Electrical properties and effect of purification treatment
2004
This work presents preliminary results of an investigation aiming at characterization of nanocomposite insulating materials. Focus is made on size and technological process effects, i.e. dependence of electrical properties on filler size, on polymer-nanofiller interaction (e.g. intercalation or exfoliation) and, in particular, on chemical purification procedures. The materials under investigation are (EVA) copolymer filled by layered micro and nanosized silicates consisting of montmorillonite and fluorohectorite, that is, natural and synthetic clays. Microstructural characterization, using transmission electron microscopy, TEM, and wide-angle X-ray spectroscopy, WAXS, and electrical measure…
Psychometric properties of the Cyber-Violence Scale in Adolescent Couples (Cib-VPA)
2018
Scales of participation and multi-scalar citizenship in EU participatory governance
2020
The EU still has a democratic deficit and its legitimacy is strongly questioned. This reveals the importance of citizenship and participation in the context of the challenges the EU faces today. The article contributes to the current discussions on the shifting frameworks of participation and citizenship through empirical research into the EU’s participatory governance. It asks how participation is framed in terms of scale and how these scalar framings are used to formulate citizenship in selected projects funded by the EU programmes on citizenship and culture. This microlevel analysis yields new insights into the politics of scale in the EU’s multilevel participatory governance. Frame anal…
