Linear spectral mixture modelling to estimate vegetation amount from optical spectral data
1996
Abstract Spectral mixture modelling has developed in recent years as a suitable remote sensing tool for analysing the biophysical and compositional character of ground surfaces. In this paper the potentiality of the linear spectral mixture model to extract vegetation related parameters from 0·4-2·5 μm reflectance data has been tested. High spectral resolution reflectance measurements of soil-plant mixtures with different soil colour and plant densities were carried out in a laboratory experiment. The constrained least-squares and the factor analysis unmixing procedures were applied to generate endmember fractions of the components present in the mixtures and to test the validity of the mode…
Experimental test results vs. analytical prediction of welded joint strength in hybrid steel trussed concrete beams (HSTCBs)
2013
The aim of the paper is to provide practical guidelines for the design of welded joints of steel truss for encased composite steel–concrete beams. The results of experimental tests are presented and interpreted. The steel truss is made of a steel plate acting as the bottom chord, made of S355 structural steel, coupled with steel rebars which form the upper chord, and steel inclined web rebars (V-reverse) welded to the two chord elements, both of them made of steel B450C. Butt welded joints of web bar to bottom steel plate and fillet welding joints of inclined web bars to top chord bars were tested, as they are different from the ones which are normally used due to the coupling of different …
<title>Pilot clinical evaluation of prototype system for visually reporting the results of ultrasound examination</title>
2000
A dedicated optic-mechanical device, attachable to an ultrasound scanner, has been developed that allows visual documenting of ultrasound examination by recording multiple gray-scale images, i.e. ultrasound tomography (UST), to be performed routinely and at low cost. The device is operated by one hand without interrupting the examination. Each page of UST report is composed by deliberate positioning multiple images within the 2X4 framework and recorded on a 35-mm microfilm. If necessary, graphic reconstructions were composed from standard graphic components and interposed between the original images on the same frame. UST report is communicated to a patient and/or a referring doctor on a co…
Surveying, Analysis and 3D Modeling in Archaeological Virtual Reconstruction. The inner colonnade of the naos of Temple G of Selinunte.
2012
This paper is focused on the virtual reconstruction of a portion of the naos of Temple G of Selinunte, as a case study for the definition of a method of virtual anastylosis and reconstruction of collapsed colonnades in archaeological contexts. Reconstruction is based on the combination of historical research, archaeological analysis, digital surveying, image-based modeling and laser scanning methods. The complexity of the ruins of the temple suggested a thorough archaeological analysis of the fragments of the inner colonnade of the naos. This analysis made it possible to identify reference surfaces and protective or sacrificial surfaces. The study of these surfaces, together with the dimens…
Performance evaluation of a high resolution dedicated breast PET scanner
2016
Purpose: Early stage breast cancers may not be visible on a whole-body PET scan. To overcome whole-body PET limitations, several dedicated breast positron emission tomography (DbPET) systems have emerged nowadays aiming to improve spatial resolution. In this work the authors evaluate the performance of a high resolution dedicated breast PET scanner (Mammi-PET, Oncovision). Methods: Global status, uniformity, sensitivity, energy, and spatial resolution were measured. Spheres of different sizes (2.5, 4, 5, and 6 mm diameter) and various 18 fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) activity concentrations were randomly inserted in a gelatine breast phantom developed at our institution. Several lesion-to-ba…
Study and 3D survey of the Roman baths in the archaeological site of Lylibaeum (Marsala, Italy)
2020
Abstract Archaeological documentation is a fundamental step for research and conservation planning phases. Nowadays traditional recording is always supported by geomatics technologies which offer important support to the growth of archaeological study. The integration of sensors and methodologies seems to give the best results, in terms of time, costs and accuracy of products. In particular, the combination of Terrestrial Laser Scanner (TLS) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) can help the documentation of complex sites and the production of 3D and 2D products for different purposes. The paper focuses on the integration of TLS and UAV methodologies to record the thermal baths of the Roman Dom…
Emissivity mapping over urban areas using a classification-based approach: Application to the Dual-use European Security IR Experiment (DESIREX)
2012
Abstract In this work a methodology to provide an emissivity map of an urban area is presented. The methodology is applied to the city of Madrid (Spain) using data provided by the Airborne Hyperspectral Scanner (AHS) in 2008. From the data a classification map with twelve different urban materials was created. Each material was then characterized by a different emissivity, whose values were obtained from the application of the TES algorithm to in situ measurements and values extracted from the ASTER spectral library. This new emissivity map could be used as a basis for determining the temperature of the city and to understand the urban heat island effect in terms of spatial distribution and…
Thermoelastic stress analysis of a 2D stress field using a single detector infrared scanner and lock-in filtering
2009
A low resolution, low cost, fast infrared scanner is used to acquire the temperature change along a line on the surface of cyclically loaded samples. The temperature signal is sampled versus time by exploiting the raster scanning movement of the thermocamera single detector. The temperature data is then post-processed by a Fast Fourier Transform based lock- in algorithm implemented in MATLAB ® , in order to filter out the thermoelastic effect induced temperature change. A procedure is also implemented in order to extend the data sampling time by opportunely synchronising successively grabbed data frames. The effectiveness of such synchronisation procedure is first demonstrated by performing…
