Cholecystokinin-8 sulfate modulates the anticonvulsant efficacy of vigabatrin in an experimental model of partial complex epilepsy in the rat.
2009
Summary Purpose: We evaluated the possible additive effect induced by the administration of the anticonvulsant vigabatrin (VGB) and cholecystokinin-8 sulfate (CCK-8S) on an experimental model of partial complex seizures (maximal dentate gyrus activation, MDA). Moreover, the functional involvement of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) neurotransmission was tested by iontophoretically administering bicuculline (GABA receptor antagonist) in the dentate gyrus. Methods: Urethane anesthetized rats were pretreated with VGB (50, 100 or 200 mg/kg, i.p.) or CCK-8S (8 nmol/kg, i.p.) alone or coadministered with VGB (50 mg/kg, i.p.). Dentate gyrus epileptic activity was obtained through the repetitive electr…
Efficacy of switching between tumor necrosis factor-alfa inhibitors in psoriasis: results from the Italian Psocare registry
2014
Background: Some studies have shown that switching patients from one tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alfa inhibitor to another may be beneficial when they have an inadequate response or an adverse event. Objective: We sought to assess the variables predicting the efficacy of the second TNF-alfa inhibitor in patients discontinuing the first TNF-alfa inhibitor. Methods: Data from all 5423 consecutive patients starting TNF-alfa inhibitor therapy for psoriasis between September 2005 and September 2010 who were included in the Italian Psocare registry were analyzed. Results: In 105 patients who switched to a second TNF-alfa inhibitor who had complete follow-up data, 75% improvement in the Psoriasis …
Recovery of rescuers from a 24-h shift and its association with aerobic fitness.
2017
Objectives: Rescuers work in 24-h shifts and the demanding nature of the occupation requires adequate recovery between work shifts. The purpose of this study has been to find out what kind of changes in autonomic control may be seen during work shift and its recovery period in the case of rescuers. An additional interest has been to see if aerobic fitness is associated with recovery from work shifts. Material and Methods: Fourteen male rescuers (aged 34±9 years old) volunteered to participate in the study. Heart rate variability (HRV) was recorded for 96 h to study stress and recovery, from the beginning of a 24-h work shift to the beginning of the next shift. Aerobic fitness assessment inc…
A double genetic algorithm for the MRCPSP/max
2011
This paper presents a heuristic solution procedure for a very general resource-constrained project scheduling problem. Here, multiple execution modes are available for the individual activities of the project. In addition, minimum as well as maximum time lags between different activities may be given. The objective is to determine a mode and a start time for each activity such that the temporal and resource constraints are met and the project duration is minimised. Project scheduling problems of this type occur e.g. in process industries. The heuristic is a two-phased genetic algorithm with different representation, fitness, crossover operator, etc., in each of them. One of the contribution…
GRASP and path relinking for project scheduling under partially renewable resources
2008
[EN] Recently, in the field of project scheduling problems the concept of partially renewable resources has been introduced. Theoretically, it is a generalization of both renewable and non-renewable resources. From an applied point of view, partially renewable resources allow us to model a large variety of situations that do not fit into classical models, but can be found in real problems in timetabling and labor scheduling. In this paper, we develop some preprocessing techniques and several heuristic algorithms for the problem. Preprocessing significantly reduces the dimension of the problems, therefore improving the efficiency of solution procedures. Heuristic algorithms based on GRASP an…
Scheduling Multimodal Transportation Systems
2004
Abstract In this paper a Lagrangian based heuristic procedure for scheduling transportation networks is presented. The solution procedure schedules a single line at a time, possibly correcting the previous decisions at each step.
Optimal Switches in Multi–inventory Systems
2007
Given a switched multi-inventory system we wish to find the optimal schedule of the resets to maintain the system in a safe operating interval, while minimizing a function related to the cost of the resets. We discuss a family of instances that can be solved in polynomial time by linear programming. We do this by introducing a set-covering formulation with a totally unimodular constraint matrix.
Integer Preemption Problems
2014
A fundamental assumption in the basic RCPSP is that activities in progress are non-preemptable. Some papers reveal the potential benefits of allowing activity interruptions in the schedule when the objective is the makespan minimization. In this chapter we consider the Maxnint_PRCPSP in which it is assumed that activities can be interrupted at any integer time instant with no cost incurred, that each activity can be split into a maximum number of parts, and that each part has a minimum duration established. We show how some procedures developed for the RCPSP can be adapted to work with the Maxnint_PRCPSP and we introduce some procedures specifically designed for this problem. Furthermore, p…
Resource-constrained project scheduling: A critical activity reordering heuristic
2003
Abstract In this paper, we present a new metaheuristic algorithm for the resource-constrained project-scheduling problem. The procedure is a non-standard implementation of fundamental concepts of tabu search without explicitly using memory structures embedded in a population-based framework. The procedure makes use of a fan search strategy to intensify the search, whereas a strategic oscillation mechanism loosely related to the forward/backward technique provides the necessary diversification. Our implementation employs the topological order (TO) representation of schedules. To explore the TO vector space we introduce three types of moves, two of them based on the concept of relative critic…
When is Meaning in Life Most Beneficial to Young People? Styles of Meaning in Life and Well-Being Among Late Adolescents
2017
The purpose of this article was to investigate the relationships between different dimensions of meaning in life and subjective and psychological well-being (PWB) among late adolescents. Three hundred and eighty four Polish participants completed The Personal Meaning Profile scale, The Satisfaction With Life Scale, The Positive and Negative Affect Schedule, The PWB scale, and the Meaning in Life Questionnaire. Two studies were conducted. In Study 1, the findings revealed that personal meaning had strong relations with subjective well-being (SWB) and PWB. In addition, the dimensions of personal meaning were more strongly associated with the cognitive dimension of SWB than with PWB. In Study …
