Label swapper device for spectral amplitude coded optical packet networks monolithically integrated on InP

In this paper the design, fabrication and experimental characterization of an spectral amplitude coded (SAC) optical label swapper monolithically integrated on Indium Phosphide (InP) is presented. The device has a footprint of 4.8x1.5 mm 2 and is able to perform label swapping operations required in SAC at a speed of 155 Mbps. The device was manufactured in InP using a multiple purpose generic integration scheme. Compared to previous SAC label swapper demonstrations, using discrete component assembly, this label swapper chip operates two order of magnitudes faster. © 2011 Optical Society of America.

Let M(r,c_1,c_3,c_3) denote the Gieseker--Maruyama moduli space of semistable rank r sheaves on P^3 with the first, second and third Chern classes equal to c_1, c_2 and c_3, respectively. Floquet theory: exponential perturbative treatment

We develop a Magnus expansion well suited for Floquet theory of linear ordinary differential equations with periodic coefficients. We build up a recursive scheme to obtain the terms in the new expansion and give an explicit sufficient condition for its convergence. The method and formulae are applied to an illustrative example from quantum mechanics.

The theoretical foundations of high-resolution TVD schemes for homogeneous scalar conservation laws and linear systems of conservation laws have been firmly established through the work of Harten [5], Sweby [11], and Roe [9]. These TVD schemes seek to prevent an increase in the total variation of the numerical solution, and are successfully implemented in the form of flux-limiters or slope limiters for scalar conservation laws and systems. MAST-RT0 solution of the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations in 3D complex domains

A new numerical methodology to solve the 3D Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible fluids within complex boundaries and unstructured body-fitted tetrahedral mesh is presented and validated with three literature and one real-case tests. We apply a fractional time step procedure where a predictor and a corrector problem are sequentially solved. The predictor step is solved applying the MAST (Marching in Space and Time) procedure, which explicitly handles the non-linear terms in the momentum equations, allowing numerical stability for Courant number greater than one. Speculative and hedging activities in the European Carbon Market

Abstract We explore the dynamics of the speculative and hedging activities in European futures carbon markets by using volume and open interest data. A comparison of the three phases in the European Union Emission Trading Scheme (EU ETS) reveals that (i) Phase II of the EU ETS seems to be the most speculative phase to date and (ii) the highest degree of speculative activity for every single phase occurs at the moment of listing the contracts for the first time. A seasonality analysis identifies a higher level of speculation in the first quarter of each year, related to the schedule of deadlines of the EU ETS. On the relativistic heat equation in one space dimension

We study the relativistic heat equation in one space dimension. We prove a local regularity result when the initial datum is locally Lipschitz in its support. We propose a numerical scheme that captures the known features of the solutions and allows for analysing further properties of their qualitative behaviour. For many systems of differential equations modeling problems in science and engineering, there are natural splittings of the right hand side into two parts, one non-stiff or mildly stiff, and the other one stiff. For such systems implicit-explicit (IMEX) integration combines an explicit scheme for the non-stiff part with an implicit scheme for the stiff part. In a recent series of papers two of the authors (Sandu and Zhang) have developed IMEX GLMs, a family of implicit-explicit schemes based on general linear methods.
