Hybrid WENO schemes for polydisperse sedimentation models

2015

International audience; Polydisperse sedimentation models can be described by a strongly coupled system of conservation laws for the concentration of each species of solids. Typical solutions for the sedimentation model considered for batch settling in a column include stationary kinematic shocks separating layers of sediment of different composition. This phenomenon, known as segregation of species, is a specially demanding task for numerical simulation due to the need of accurate numerical simulations. Very high-order accurate solutions can be constructed by incorporating characteristic information, available due to the hyperbolicity analysis made in Donat and Mulet [A secular equation fo…

Universal formulas for characteristic classes on the Hilbert schemes of points on surfaces

2007

This article can be seen as a sequel to the first author's article ``Chern classes of the tangent bundle on the Hilbert scheme of points on the affine plane'', where he calculates the total Chern class of the Hilbert schemes of points on the affine plane by proving a result on the existence of certain universal formulas expressing characteristic classes on the Hilbert schemes in term of Nakajima's creation operators. The purpose of this work is (at least) two-fold. First of all, we clarify the notion of ``universality'' of certain formulas about the cohomology of the Hilbert schemes by defining a universal algebra of creation operators. This helps us to reformulate and extend a lot of the f…

Rolle's Theorem for Polynomials of Degree Four in a Hilbert Space

2002

AbstractIn an infinite-dimensional real Hilbert space, we introduce a class of fourth-degree polynomials which do not satisfy Rolle's Theorem in the unit ball. Extending what happens in the finite-dimensional case, we show that every fourth-degree polynomial defined by a compact operator satisfies Rolle's Theorem.

Effect of plot size on measured soil loss for two Italian experimental sites

2011

The objective of this investigation was to determine empirically the plot width and length effects on runoff volume, Ve, soil loss, Ae, and sediment concentration, Ce, by using data collected, at the temporal scale of the erosive event, on bare plots differing in width (2 to 8 m) and length (11 to 22 m) for two Italian stations (Masse, Umbria; Sparacia, Sicily). Mean results differed by a maximum factor of 1.6 for Ve, 1.8 for Ae and 1.2 for Ce when plots differing in width were compared and by a maximum factor of 1.4 for Ve, 1.2 for Ae and 1.3 for Ce when comparison between plot lengths was conducted. Differences between two plot widths or two plot lengths were not statistically significant…

MR 2834249 Reviewed Hoshi Y., Galois-theoretic characterization of isomorphism classes of monodromically full hyperbolic curves of genus zero, Nagoya…

2013

Let K be a finitely generated field of characteristic zero, l be a prime number and S be a scheme. In this paper, the author studies isomorphism classes of hyperbolic curves. The author calls the pair (C, D), where C is a scheme over S and D \subset C is a closed subscheme of C, a hyperbolic curve of type (g, r) over S if C is smooth and proper over S, if any geometric fiber of C \rightarrow S is a connected curve of genus g and if the composite D \rightarrow C \rightarrow S is a finite \'{e}tale covering over S of degree r. The main result of this paper is that the isomorphism class of a hyperbolic curve of genus zero over K that is l-monodromically full is completely determinated by the k…

Beta-decay of light nuclei close to the proton drip-line: 40Ti and 35Ca

1998

The s-decay of40Ti and35Ca have been studied at the LISE3 spectrometer at GANIL. The decay schemes were deduced from the observed s-delayed proton and γ emission of40Ti and35Ca into the ground and first excited states of39Ca and34Ar, respectively. The Gamow-Teller strength functionB(GT) of the40Ti s-decay extracted from the s-decay branching ratios and the precisely measured40Ti half-life, provides for the first time an experimental calibration of the neutrino detection efficiency for the ICARUS solar neutrino detector.

Fixed point iterative schemes for variational inequality problems

2018

In a wide class of evolutionary processes, the problem of computing the solutions of an initial value problem is encountered. Here, we consider projected dynamical systems in the sense of \cite{Daniele} and references therein. Precisely, a projected dynamical system is an operator which solves the initial value problem: \begin{equation}\label{PDS}\frac{dx(t)}{dt}= \Pi_{\mathbb{K}}\left(x(t),-F(x(t))\right), \quad x(0)=x_0 \in \mathbb{K}, \, t \in [0,+\infty[,\tag{P}\end{equation} where $\mathbb{K}$ is a convex polyhedral set in $\mathbb{R}^n$, $F: \mathbb{K} \to \mathbb{R}^n$ and $\Pi_{\mathbb{K}}: \mathbb{R} \times \mathbb{K} \to \mathbb{R}^n$ is given as follows $\Pi_{\mathbb{K}}(x,-F(x))…

"Lavorare" il dato linguistico: prospettive e limiti. Alcune considerazioni dall'esperienza dell'Atlante Linguistico della Sicilia (ALS)

2018

The present work focuses on the relationship between linguistic research and the use of new technologies for linguistic data processing and analysis. Starting from the experience of the Atlante Linguistico della Sicilia (ALS), this paper describes a XML schema, based on the theory of trasferenza (transference) by Regis (2013), for the annotation and analysis of the data from the onomasiological questions of the ALS sociovariational questionnaire. Moreover, this modest case study tries to make clear the pros and cons of technological devices in linguistic research.

Operam ludere: testimonios y equivalencias en latín

2018

Finalmente se clasifican esas citas en una tabla por indice tematico y d e autores EnglishThis paper starts from the assumption that the same idea can be reflected in various expressions and proverbs in Latin. The paper offers as a first step an an…

Percepción visual y traducción audiovisual: la mirada dirigida

2012
