«Widrige Winde»: Der Abbruch der schonischen Expedition aus der Sicht des preußischen Gesandten, des Freiherrn Friedrich Ernst von Cnyphausen
2017
There are two interpretations of Peter the Great’s motives for refusing to land on the Swedish island of Schonen in historiography: that the tsar feared unforeseen military risks and that he did not trust his allies, Denmark and Great Britain. In this article, the author attempts to analyse in a more detailed way the reasons and consequences for the mistrust in the Northern Alliance by looking at communications by Baron Friedrich Ernst von Cnyphausen, the Prussian ambassador in Copenhagen. It is shown that the Russophobic hysteria which grasped the Danish royal court in September 1716 looks completely irrational when we consider parallel attitudes in the Prussian court. Cnyphausen does not …
EULAR/PRINTO/PRES criteria for Henoch-Schonlein purpura, childhood polyarteritis nodosa, childhood Wegener granulomatosis and childhood Takayasu arte…
2010
EULAR/PRINTO/PRES Objectives To validate the previously proposed classification criteria for Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP), childhood polyarteritis nodosa (c-PAN), c-Wegener granulomatosis (c-WG) and c-Takayasu arteritis (c-TA).Methods Step 1: retrospective/prospective webdata collection for children with HSP, c-PAN, c-WG and c-TA with age at diagnosis <= 18 years. Step 2: blinded classification by consensus panel of a representative sample of 280 cases. Step 3: statistical (sensitivity, specificity, area under the curve and.-agreement) and nominal group technique consensus evaluations. Results 827 patients with HSP, 150 with c-PAN, 60 with c-WG, 87 with c-TA and 52 with c-other were compar…
Impaired GH secretion in patients with SHOX deficiency and efficacy of recombinant human GH therapy.
2012
Background/Aims: Mutations of the short stature homeobox-containing (SHOX) gene on the pseudoautosomal region of the sex chromosomes cause short stature. GH treatment has been recently proposed to improve height in short patients with SHOX deficiency. The aim of this study was to evaluate GH secretion and analyze growth and safety of recombinant human GH (rhGH) therapy in short children and adolescents with SHOX deficiency. Patients and Design: We studied 16 patients (10 females; 9.7 ± 2.9 years old; height –2.46 ± 0.82 standard deviation score, SDS) with SHOX deficiency. All subjects underwent au…
Acute renal insufficiency and pancreatitis in a child with atypical Henoch–Schönlein purpura: efficacy of a single dose of cyclophosphamide
2018
A 9-year-old boy with petechiae on the legs and abdominal pain was unsuccessfully treated with steroids. He was admitted to our hospital for the onset of fever, ecchymosis, and arthralgia. Skin lesions suggested vasculitis, but they were not typical of Henoch–Schönlein purpura. He showed ecchymosis of the scrotal bursa, diffusion of petechiae to the trunk and arms, vomiting, severe abdominal pain, oliguria with hyponatremia, hypoalbuminemia, low C3 levels, high levels of creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, and tubular enzymes, proteinuria, and glycosuria. The urinary sediment showed macrohaematuria, and hyaline and cellular casts. Ultrasound showed polyserositis. He was treated with intraveno…
Preferential CO oxidation over catalysts with well-defined inverse opal structure in microchannels
2008
Catalyst supports of CeO 2 /SiO 2 and Al 2 O 3 with three-dimensionally ordered macroporous structure were fabricated in microchannels by application of PMMA opals as templates. Pt-Rh supported on CeO 2 /SiO 2 showed high efficiency for CO removal in preferential CO oxidation in the presence of excess hydrogen. Pt-Rh supported on Al 2 O 3 with an inverse opal structure showed higher reactivity than that supported on wash-coated Al 2 O 3 layers in microchannel reactor.

LA PANCREATITE ACUTA: UNA TEMIBILE COMPLICANZA IN CORSO DI PORPORA DI HENOCHSCHONLEIN. CASISTICA DELLA CLINICA PEDIATRICA DI PALERMO
2018
PANCREATITIS IN HENOCH-SCHONLEIN PURPURA. A SINGLE CENTRE OBSERVATIONAL STUDY
2018
Introduction: Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) is the most frequent vasculitis in children. Typically, it is characterized by palpable purpura, joints swelling, arthralgia, abdominal pain with possible intestinal bleeding. In more severe cases, the patients show acute abdomen. Acute pancreatitis is a rare dramatically evolutive, life-treating manifestation of SHS and it can be associated with a fulminant course. Persistent abdominal pain, need to be investigated by the dosage of serum pancreatic amylase, lipase and by abdominal MRI. In these patients, corticosteroid treatment is recommended and must be associated with parenteral feeding. Objectives: We analysed the full series of children wit…
Anti‐laminin auto antibodies in ANCA‐associated vasculitis
2000
Background. Endothelial cell damage occurs during vasculitic processes in vivo. With the alteration of the endothelium, exposure to basement membrane components may occur with induction of humoral immunity. Methods. In the present study, we evaluated the prevalence of antibodies against the basement membrane antigen laminin (LMN) in patients with ANCA-associated systemic vasculitis (AASV), pathologic controls (systemic lupus erythematosus, mixed cryoglobulinaemia, Henoch Schonlein purpura, primary glomerulonephritis) and normal individuals. Results. By ELISA, 21.6% of AASV (16/74) and 10% of pathologic controls (3/30), but only one of the normal controls (2.8%) had these antibodies (P = 0.0…
Linguistic Pathologies in Ancient Greece: Aristotele on Aphasia
1999
This papers deals with linguistic pathologies in ancient Greece, especially in Aristotle. All the author and literary text before Aristotele (Herodotus, Plato and so on) are considered. In the Corpus Aristotelicum there several passages about aphasia. Probl. , books x and XI are particularly relevant. In the biological works we read that little children , when they learn language , stutter. They behave, then as people affected by psellotes and traulotes. Ischonophonia is the most severe language desease Aristotle deals with: It consists of the distruction of rhythm and prosodic features of language. So, it can be concluded that acquisition ad loose of language has the same shape and pattern…
