Kinematic and sedimentological evolution of the Manyara Rift in northern Tanzania, East Africa

We describe the stratigraphical/sedimentological and structural evolution of the Manyara Rift in the Tanzania Divergence Zone, East Africa. The rift-related Manyara Beds on the shoaling side of the Manyara Rift were deposited between <1.7 and 0.4 Ma and can be separated into a lacustrine lower member and a fluvial upper member. The transition from lacustrine to fluvial sedimentation at ∼ 0.7 Ma appears to be related to a southward shift of major rift faulting. Fault geometry and the kinematics of the faults are consistent with major faulting during NE/E-directed extension. Hydroacoustic data collected during two echosurveys carried out in the Sicily Channel in 1998 and 2002 were analysed to investigate the distribution and spatial structure of small pelagic fish species in relation to the sedimentological nature of the sea bottom. The study was carried out on two contiguous areas (labelled ZONE 1 and ZONE 2) of the continental shelf off the southern coast of Sicily, characterised by different dominant texture, ‘sand’ for ZONE 1 and ‘clayey-silt’ for ZONE 2. Teachers' perspective on gratitude within classroom environment

The present is a qualitative research on the topic of gratitude, specifically in classroom contexts. Its main purpose is to explore potential situations where gratitude is speculated to be present within classroom activities. The research took place in a primary school in the city of Jyväskylä, Finland. Two different groups of this school were videotaped during one of their lesson and the material was used in stimulated recall interviews. In the stimulated recall interview, teachers gave accounts about the different grateful moments and provided information about their thoughts and possible reasons why children were grateful. In recent decades, increased diversity and migration have challenged school staff members’ ways of working. This study aimed to identify the challenges faced by Finnish school staff in supporting students with migrant backgrounds, and to elaborate on how they enact professional agency toward these challenges. The data consist of 15 thematic interviews with staff members across various work positions in two Finnish lower secondary schools. Työrauhaongelmat ovat viimeaikoina herättäneet runsaasti peruskoulua koskevaa keskustelua. Vuorovaikutus työrauhan takaamiseksi kouluissa näyttää nousevan keskeiseksi opettajan asiantuntijuudessa. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on ymmärtää työrauhan rakentumista opettajan ja oppilaan välisessä vuorovaikutuksessa. Tavoitteena on selvittää, millaisissa tilanteissa työrauha estyy ja millaisilla luokanhallintakeinoilla opettajat puuttuvat oppilaiden työrauhaa häiritsevään käyttäytymiseen.
