Feasible glass‐melting process assisted by microwaves

2019

[EN] The advantages of microwave (MW) energy processing have been verified in the sintering of a ceramic frit at a pre-industrial scale. The challenge of achieving high temperature using MW energy at such dimensions was overcome and a mix of natural raw materials was heated until its fluxing point. Changes in dielectric properties of the raw materials mix were also measured in situ with the increase in temperature, being in accordance to thermal processes of a conventional heating process. The properties of the resulting ceramic frit were compared with the same frit obtained by the conventional sintering method. Both frits showed similar thermal behavior regarding DTA-TGA, heating microscop…

An electrochemical process to prepare and recycle biobased ionic liquids

2019

This manuscript describes the first electrosynthesis of biobased ionic liquids from L-valine, oxalic acid and glyoxal, which is energy-efficient, does not emit toxic waste and avoids the formation of inorganic waste. These ionic liquids were then used in the development of our electro-recycling process. While their recycling yields are still moderated due to recombination and disproportionation reactions, this unprecedented recycling technology is very promising in terms of environmental and economic gains. Indeed, it has a high energy efficiency, requires low cost equipment, allows a strong decrease of the price of such ionic solvents, limits the use of non-renewable resources and solves t…

Design of a reactor operating in supercritical water conditions using CFD simulations. Examples of synthesized nanomaterials

2011

International audience; Direct information about fluids under supercritical water conditions is unfeasible due to the engineering restrictions at high pressure and high temperature. Numerical investigations based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) calculations are widely used in order to get extensive information on the fluid behavior, particularly to help the design of a new reactor. This paper presents the numerical investigations performed on an original supercritical water device, especially in the level of the reactor. CFD calculations allow to design and optimize the present reactor described in this study. Currently, this process produces some nanometric oxide powders in continuou…

Melting Process of the Sn-45 wt.% In and Sn-77 wt.% In Alloys as Viewed by Positron Annihilation

2006

The temperature dependences of the positron annihilation parameters F and R were determined for Sn–45 wt.% In and Sn–77 wt.% In alloys. The obtained results enabled to verify the vacancy and the quasicrystalline models of the melting process. It was found that for metals transforming into the liquid state from the structures different than the close packed structure, the melting transition are hardly explainable in terms of the vacancy model of melting. The strong trapping of positrons in metallic liquids is an indication of the presence of microvoids (vacancy clusters) or microcrystals containing defects more immense than vacancies. The share of these positron trapping centers in the volum…

Solid state bonding in extrusion and FSW: process mechanics and analogies

2006

Abstract The solid state bonding occurring in extrusion and in friction stir welding (FSW) processes is investigated through FEM models previously developed and validated. In particular, for the AA6082-T6 aluminum alloys, the most relevant field variables have been monitored and compared, such as strain, strain rate, effective stress and pressure. The aim of the research is the development of an effective FSW bonding criterion.
