Dépistage du cancer du sein : en route vers le futur

2016

Breast cancer remains a potentially lethal disease, which requires aggressive treatments and is associated with long-term consequences. Its prognosis is linked to both tumor biology and burden at diagnosis. Although treatments have allowed important improvements in prognosis over the past 20 years, breast cancer screening remains necessary. Mammographic screening allows earlier stage diagnoses and a decrease of breast cancer specific mortality. However, breast cancer screening modalities should be revised with the objective to address demonstrated limitations of mammographic screening (limited benefit, imperfect sensitivity and specificity, overdiagnoses, radiation-induced morbidity). Furth…

Radiologic Evaluation of the Transplant Candidate

2003

Before a patient is placed on the waiting list for liver transplantation, a variety of screening procedures are performed, including laboratory tests and radiological procedures. One goal is to search for abnormalities that preclude liver transplantation. Another is to detect abnormalities that in some way will affect the operative procedure. The individual periopera- tive risk is evaluated by searching for pulmonary, cardiac, and renal changes.

Prädiktive genetische Untersuchungen: Individualisierung von Diagnostik und Therapie bei Familien mit multipler endokriner Neoplasie Typ II

2008

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE When multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (MEN2) is suspected, genetic tests are at the centre of screening procedures. It was the aim of this study to compare the diagnostic value of molecular biological investigations with that of conventional biochemical tests. PATIENTS AND METHODS The study cohort consisted of all 144 patients cared for in our department since 1990 with the suspected diagnosis of MEN2 (evidence of a medullary thyroid carcinoma [MTC]), coexistence of two MEN2 tumours or a family history of MEN2. 14 of the 144 patients (from 12 families) were already known to have an hereditary MTC, while the remaining 130 had been referred for further diagnostic i…
