This article investigates J.G. Schadow's relevance as a portraitist and as a sculptor of funerary monuments. In the appendix are published Schadow's letters to Canova, documents that help to contextualize Canova's relations to the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts.

The catalogue is dedicated to the artistic research of Yumiko Kimura (Tokyo, 1961) and Jun Sato (Tokyo, 1947). The catalogue was made on the occasion of the exhibition "Geometric Universes", which presented a selection of works by the Japanese artist in the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento and then at the FAM gallery with the patronage of the Museum of Geometric and MADI Art in Dallas and the inclusion in the official celebrations of the 150th anniversary of relations between Japan and Italy.

The essay focuses on MADI, an artistic phenomenon of international breadth founded by Carmelo Arden Quin in Buenos Aires in 1946 that is based on the principles of no-expression, no representation, no simbolysm. The contribution focuses on the founding moments of the movement with particular reference to the figure of Joaquin Torres Garcia and Tomas Maldonado analysing the main exhibitions in Latin America and Europe. Francesco Carradori's treatise «Istruzione elementare per gli studiosi della scultura» (1802) codifies the organization and working process within a sculpture workshop in such an exemplary manner that it is an indispensable source for understanding the marble industry in the 19th century. Il testo, partendo da un inedito calco in gesso patinato della prima metà del ‘900 rinvenuto sul mercato antiquario, analizza il gruppo bronzeo con Eracle e la cerva di Cerinea del Museo Archeologico “A. Salinas” di Palermo da cui è tratto (fine I sec. a.C. – I sec. d.C.), descrivendone il tipo iconografico e individuandone l’archetipo lisippeo, attraverso il raffronto con esempi di età imperiale, tardo-antica e medievale. Surface and volume non-invasive methods for the structural monitoring of the bass-relief ‘Madonna con Bambino’ (Gorizia, Northern Italy)

Structural analysis of marble statues, carried out by non-invasive and in situ methods, is crucial to define the state of conservation of the artworks and to identify the deterioration phenomena that can affect them. In this work, we combined in situ non-destructive techniques, ultrasonic tomography (US), ultraviolet-induced visible fluorescence (UV-IF) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) to study the bass-relief ‘Madonna con Bambino’ (Gorizia, Italy). The US revealed the presence of some metallic pivots, associated with areas of high sound velocity; moreover, a more degraded area has been identified in the lower part of the bass-relief.
