Las competencias del profesorado en las Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación siguen siendo un elemento crucial para el desarrollo educativo. Este trabajo pretende establecer un marco que permita concretar las relaciones de los dos elementos competenciales (tecnológico y pedagógico) y analizar la influencia de factores personales y contextuales clave. El estudio analiza los resultados de la aplicación de un instrumento que pretende medir el Valor Social Subjetivo de la Educación. Trabajando con un grupo de 341 estudiantes de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria en España, se exponen las propiedades métricas del instr umento desde una metodología de Teoría Clásica de los Tests y Teoría de Respuesta al Ítem para comprobar su fiabilidad y bondad de ajuste. Abstract Based on the premise that teachers’ perceptions of their professional roles are closely linked to their self images and their impact on the learning and achievement of their students, a study was conducted to investigate the relationship between the context of teachers’ work and their views of themselves as professionals. Sixty teachers in Israeli vocational senior high schools participated in the study. Half taught high-achieving and half low-achieving students. Several studies about school success confirm that a positive teacherstudent relationship can favor a strong engagement to school life. Such studies emphasize the fact that teachers contribute to school success when they combine both a demanding and a supportive attitude towards their students, such attitude arising from a sense of value and trust in their students’ capabilities. Recent studies for primary and secondary education find positive effects of the share of girls in the classroom on achievement of boys and girls. This study examines whether these results can be extrapolated to post-secondary education. We conduct an experiment in which the shares of girls in workgroups for first year students in economics and business are manipulated and students are randomly assigned to these groups. Boys tend to postpone their dropout decision when surrounded by more girls, and there is also a modest reduction in early absenteeism. RESUMEN La modernización del sistema de Formación Profesional del Estado español se remonta a los años 90. Desde entonces, ha evolucionado significativamente, teniendo los desarrollos europeos como marco de referencia. Con la extensión de la escolarización hasta los 16 años, se introdujo en el año 1994 un tipo de formación profesionalizadora de muy bajo nivel de cualificación, especialmente diseñada para los adolescentes clasificados como de bajo rendimiento académico en Educación Secundaria y para aquellos en situación de vulnerabilidad social.
